That’s entirely besides the point.
There is a difference between the freedom to express your culture and diversity and being a jerk when asked to stop doing something someone else finds objectionable.
Truthspeaker there and many others see it as misgendering. The proper thing to do is to apologize and let them know it was not your intent and then stop.
At least that’s how me and my friends tend to do things.
Perhaps ball room culture is different.
Respect of others is important, otherwise they’ll have no reason to respect you.

Up till fairly recently it was understood that blue eyes= high elves, green eyes = blood elves.
You do know that there have been blue eyed blood elves since at least Wrath, right?

According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, use of terms of endearment such as “honey,” “dear,” “sweetheart,” or similar expressions on people like co-workers is considered a form of sexual harassment. You can actually get fired from a job for calling someone in a non-intimate setting “dear.”
I am a person of queer perspective, and gay, and I view “girl” and its intentional misspelling as a pronoun when used to address me.
I am queer people and maliciously and intentionally misgendering someone is not part of my culture, nor should it be of anyone else’s culture.

I don’t know what this is at all, I just know my pride isn’t more important then respecting others lol.

Who? Where? Are they actually just death knights?
Except that this makes absolutely no sense.
The “high elves” in outland were exposed to fel… for pete’s sake, they went through the dark portal into a fel infested world. Veressa should have had green eyes as well specially after spending so much time in Legion invaded worlds.
Just because they had to differentiate them with the such a mundane thing as eye color of all things, doesn’t mean that it makes sense.
Also, Valeera identifies herself a blood elf. Somehow, she chose to be a double traitor.

Someone wants to link my “selfie” while I’m flirting with Lanesh?
I don’t have access to it right now.
I could go check but as far as I am aware the high elves at Allerian Post in Outland all still have blue eyes. Veressa doesn’t have green eyes, neither does Alleria.
The term is sock puppeting. She’s a high elf. Every member of the Silver Covenant is a high elf. Virtually every elf who chose to stay loyal to the Alliance instead of Quel’Thalas is a high elf. Blizzard can argue otherwise but Blizzard would be arguing with Blizzard since no one seemed to have understood this except Blizzard when they said, “Oh, all high elves are blood elves.”
A single NPC.
…who is also, presumably, an alliance spy.
The irony is people act like eye color defines a race, I mean currently npc “High Elves” have purple eyes in a shade none of us can use and in lore Blood Elves that are the High Elves had the blue, green and golden that we didn’t have options to use as players until they added them but we always had them lore wise so I don’t really get where people figure they aren’t already ours.

Which is why I said…
You’re letting everything hinge in something as flimsy as eye color… let that sink in.
I… don’t think that means what you think it mean. And no, in every source you can find info about her, she’s listed as a Blood elves, it’s been the case from the moment she became a cannon characters. If anything, taitor or not, she’s the living, walking proof of how pointless the separation between the two factions of High Elves is.

I’ve always been curious about whether it’s that big of a thing in universe, or just something we’ve made into something bigger than it actually is

LOL.
Sure, uh… I guess you can act as if headcannons are fact but… no, just no.
And hey, Valeera is also a single NPC, so how come Lanesh doesn’t count?
I think you’re just being taken for a ride, tbh.
Oh bless your heart.
I’m not going to go through something that I’ve dealt with before. Feel free to go look up one of the old threads if you need a refresher on what a high elf is, or if you’re just feeling nostalgic and you really miss bickering.
