If sub races becomes a thing, I will buy a wildhammer druid with them not having pallies.
Love the implication that Blood Elven identity is finite and stored in the hair.
See this is the thing I just don’t get about people that “pick” a faction. Why are y’all like this?
I don’t think VE’s will be getting Blood Elf hairstyles, unless there’s like an across all races hair swap like there was during Cataclysm. That WAS fun and I hope they do it again.
My theory is that so far Void Elves have only been given BE assets -mostly textures- because they are an easy and cost efficient customization expansion in the meantime. I think ARs were meant to have their pass in 10.0, but the backlash made them fast track the other initial ones.
Void Elves tho, I think their “proper” AR customization pass is more tied to the next expansion, at least in the idea that more time has to pass for their identity to grow within the world -because so far, aesthetically, all they have is the Heritage Armor-
So it will be then when VE’s get their own developed assets, like hair styles, jewelry colors and maybe some sort of marking. Maybe hair and skin colors will be less than other AR’s get -maybe just black and alleria-like white?- because they do have more options already, but it is evident that VE’s options so far simply ddid not require the same development than other AR’s are getting.
And I don’t think it’s because they added some BE assets and said “good enough”, but more so because VE’s need more time to settle in universe to develop and portray a more cohesive cultural aesthetic -such as hairstyles-
Wildhammer would have made so much more sense as an AR…
The classes alone would have validated it.
Wildhammer shouldn’t have mage warlock or paladin.
They would still have Warrior Hunter Rogue Priest Shaman and I guess Death Knight. But they also would have gotten Druid…
Would have been glorious.
Technically that argument was used before the hair color was the last bit remaining.
They just focus on the hair as skin tones were already released hair color was really the only main visual difference.
(I’m not arguing the point though. Just wanted to point out that likening it specifically to the hair is technically reductive of the complaint. I understand those who desired to keep the distinctions even if I disagree with them.)
I hope so…
I really want to see some more void options. T_T
I hope it comes with a redux of Telogrus Rift… (Or as we have discussed another home where they can have more than a few tents. lol)
I play both factions and enjoy looking neat. I don’t mind either faction borrowing from the other. I just wanna have fun playing the game. Less restrictions and more options are fun!
Very well said, hat’s off to you sir. If 10.0 is a Void themed expansion as some people have been hypothesizing, then it would make total sense that Void elves, along with other races, will receive new, unique customization that will be more Void-themed. And hairstyles. Everybody loves new hairstyles.
It just bothers me that people sometimes go so far into the idea of distinction that the loop into the argument that Blood Elf identity is defined by how they look. Like, it’s not the visual difference that makes Blood Elves who they are, and how that argument is used to gatekeep the existence of any sort of playable High Elf, whose whole thing is that they are basically the same race, just with different ideology.
I do think we will get them, but not soon.
That’s the thing IMO. I just think both things are just inexorably linked. VE’s just don’t have a strong cultural and aesthetic identity, so it would be rather backwards that they got their customization expanded BEFORE that happens, you know?
But if a cultural and aesthetic identity is established, THEN the customization can draw from that. Like, would they prefer flowy aesthetics? then longer, loose hairstyles would make sense. Do they pay homage to Alleria? then warpaint would make sense. Do they develop a more ostentatious architectural style? Then we could see more elaborate hairstyles with jewelry and gems.
That’s why I think the cultural aesthetics have to -or should - come before we see character customization.
Thank you! Like I said above, I both think that VE’s will have a pass because so far their assets are mostly reused BE stuff, so from a factual level, less time has been spent in development for them, and because it just makes more sense to establish their cultural identity and aesthetics before adding character customizations.
As in, you don’t put the cart in before the horse.
Same.
For example I would love if there was another big hair swap like in Cataclysm. Even if it is between two races it would be awesome!
I mean of course I’d give AR and CR a big swap, but in the case of the BEs, I’d love a swap with the Nightborne rather than the Void Elves.
Makes less sense for the VE’s to swap hairstyles with the Night Elves perhaps, but I would say there is a more wild throughline in their styles that could work, and on the other hand, the more sleek VE hairstyles could serve a Highborne aesthetic wonderfully.
just saying again for the people who keep saying we have enough options and to not ask for more look at the darn chart i dont wanna hear it VE,LFD and NB deserve more .
