Vanquisher's Hammer > Divine Toll

Looking at the talent trees for dragonflight has me very worried if I will like ret in the next expansion. Aside from our obvious mobility issues I also personally have always hated the whole final Reckoning execution sentence divine toll 1 minute obvious burst setup. I absolutely love the utility that vanq hammer has now - you can have decent burst every 30 seconds or a really good setup every minute especially with lining it up with your reckoning wings proc in pvp. Just feels like a much more fun and engaging ability to me.

Do you guys agree? If not, what else would you prefer to see?

The way it’s set up in the DF talent tree right now, Vanquisher’s Hammer in DF is very undesirable, as it currently stands. If they transferred it over just as it is on live, it would be much better than the nerfed version they have on the DF talent tree, and it also wouldn’t be broken still.

On the df tree its a 30 cd second internal cd, biggest problem with it being that its activated by judgement which is part of your rotation making this feel very gimmicky to use. Do we just hold judgement? Not a fan. Not to mention its a nerfed version amd only has 1 charge.

Maybe for Ret, but for Holy I despise Vanq Hammer.
The current iteration of HPal Necro is probably the worst HPal has felt in a very, very long time.

I agree with that, I prefer divine toll as holy as well. I feel like they both need a spot on the tree, however ideally only one should be taken at a time.

Vanq hammer’s only saving grace is that it generates HP

I posted this before, but I think the best and simplest solution is to have Exorcism as a replacement for Vanquisher’s Hammer, replacing Empyrean Endowment in the current DF tree.

Exorcism -
30 yd range - Instant - 30 sec recharge
2 Charges

Blast your target with Holy Light, dealing 5,000 damage, and empowering your next TV to automatically trigger Divine Storm with 25% increased effectiveness.

Enemies hit within your Consecration are burned for an additional 25% of Exorcism’s damage over 6 secs and causes all Undead and Demons to flee.

The thing that makes vanq hammer so fun imo is the 2 charges, you can either use one every 30 seconds or hold them for a major go. IDK I love how rets play right now I just wish I had magic bop and more mobility which it looks like were getting next x pac.

How are we getting more mobility?

Double divine steed and talent in the ret tree called “sanctified ground”

I was being sarcastic, but you are serious. I actually wonder if you played with the talent trees not only for ret but other specs as well to say such things.

Yes

That’s fair, but since it’s in the spec tree and not the class tree that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
They can easily keep one for one spec and a different one for another.

I disagree with this. Personally post-Legion Ret sucks imo, and whilst magic BoP is kinda nice the rest of the class and spec tree is absolutely trash.

Also we have to remember, the cost for magic BoP is both physical BoP and 30% cdr on all of our personal defensive cooldowns.

What kind of wonky build did you make? You can easily have both for PvP.

You aren’t looking to make a perfectly min-max PvE dps build when pvping. This build will be more then enough to balance offense and defense for PvP:

Sorry, I forgot PvP was the only content in the game???

It seems like the PvE rets dont like ret, I can agree with that I don’t like PvEing on my ret at all. In PvP though it’s extremely fun, definitely recommend trying it out.

I love VH right now and prefer it over DT. Why they don’t want us to have it as a separate cooldown though? Remember when you were able to activate Reckoning at full stacks instead of it automatically triggering? Not sure why they don’t want us to choose when we use these cds and make it so it automatically triggers or bake it into a spell we use constantly it just weird.

I feel it increases the skill barrier by having it proc automatically which adds depth to the class and is another tool to have you stand out from other players, Ive grown to like it tbh.

Regardless of how enjoyable it is being able to blow people up in PvP it doesn’t change how one dimensional and bland the Retribution spec has been designed.

There is only so much fun you can derive from having a seizure on the keyboard and watching people die before it starts to get old unfortunately. And with how Blizzard constantly treats PvP…it’s very hard to make it a focal point of gameplay.

Just look at this season, PvPers are forced to content with a conquest cap hampering gear acquisition. Meanwhile players can fully upgrade all their gear from M+ and roll into PvP with a huge ilvl advantage.

The developers are working their hardest to make this game a joke.

Still not worth a talent point in its current state.

One dimensional? The reason I enjoy ret so much is because of how much the class actually does, there’s no other class like it. Sure ret has insane burst but it’s role is a support class, zug zug as a ret only gets you so far. The only other one close to it I could even see myself playing is an enhance shaman but the rotation of an enhance shaman is even more basic.
