He wanted paid. Nothing more and nothing less.
Stornwind Nobles, due to their horrible financial mismanagement, disbanded VC’s Stonemasons and STILL never paid VC for the work he and his masons did.
This is what set in motion everything “bad” he did–he just wanted paid.

It was less financial mismanagement and more corruptive influence from Lady Prestor(Onyxia).
but yeah, he just wanted to get paid for the job they hired him to do.
That’s why his cause is righteous.
and we killed him without question because they offered us loot.

The alliance leaders laughed when talking about how cheap it was. While the poor guy was still rebuilding Stormwind. They planned on ripping the guy off.

I mean, why would you trust “nobles”, probably the most easily corrupted group of people ever.
Bad union rep, i mean to be fair. If you ever go into making homes you always want to get a feel for who you’re working for, it’s a real common thing. I personally do put some blame at his feet, because either He’s naive, and wasn’t willing to make a settlement or just stupid, or just new to that kind of work.
I mean let’s be honest, you think he’d be the first person to be reported “Missing” after making a great house? HAH 1800s-1916’s happened sorta often with free lance home makers.
Alright lets be real here. Instead of a massive ship, they could have probably very easily snuck a bunch of explosives into the city and destroyed a large part of it.
All the defias look like everyday citizens. They could have gone sleeper on this operation until the time was right.
Poor Mr. Smite might be out of a job, though. Unless they use him as a front-gate distraction while they finalize their setup.

“Thank you for those bear carcasses, now I need one more thing from you, brave adventurer. Go forth and commit genocide on each and every one of this particular group, including the leader, who is naughty in the eyes of our lord. ‘Why?’ you ask? Well, for the experience of course!”

Lol. He should have put a builder’s lein on Stormwind.
To be fair it was the entire stonemason guild of Stormwind that got screwed. VanCleef was just the guildmaster. They had done work for the nobles before and didn’t have problems.
Onyxia was just playing both sides.
Then CLEARLY the collective people of Stormwind should of seized the means of production from the Stormwind nobles and made a Workers paradise. If it work in the real world it can work in fantasy, who’s with me?

How did a tauren come to join the Defias Botherhood?
He was a Grim totem who was actually a good guy, but due to Tauren prejudice he went into self exile due to there hypocrisy. Eventually something happened, where Pirates. (Vancleef) saved his life, and he finally found his home, with them and himself.
They’ve even got a murloc. Equal opportunity employer, I guess.
