Valuable BOEs- roll need or greed? Community needs to find a solution

Oh, yeah. And it needs to be done in game. “But you said this in Discord!” will not fly, because not everyone uses it.

If its something you need, then start the group yourself and tell everyone before they join, that such and such item is reserved already.

I’m going to roll greed on gear I can’t use rare BOE or not. I will probably lose a lot of gear I can use to selfish people until we can weed them out

If its something no one in the party needs or isnt an immediate upgrade for anyone, I’ll roll Greed. If someone who doesnt need it rolls Need on it, I’ll Need roll on it as well, but I’ll never be the first to do so.

If its something that is an upgrade for someone in the party (such as Edgemaster’s Handguards dropping while we have a Fury Warrior) I’ll encourage them to roll Need on it.

If its an upgrade for someone they roll need everyone else rolls greed, then he puts it on before everyone. Its the standard rule. When your on a closed server Ninja’s get guild Kicked and become pariah on that server. Remembers a few on Argent Dawn who were black listed and repudiated so much they left server. Good bye to them!

I woud like to see Blizzard step in and make need rolls bind the item to the winner. That, however, is up to Blizzard.

IMO, rolling “need” on items you cannot equip or intend to sell, including rare BOE’s, is ninja’ing and sjpuld be treated as such. I wish I could say that I was surprised at the lengths to which some people will go and the mental gymnastics they will employ in order to justify their selfish greed and “me, me, me” attitudes.

This is certainly a tactic people can use. Personally, I hate when people reserve stuff. No one else is allowed to roll if they need it or its an upgrade for them too? Pass. So I just don’t join those groups.

I have also seen this happen. So to all the people on this thread that have said “everyone just rolls need on all BoEs” you may want to clarify that with your group going in so you aren’t seen as a ninja.

I hear what you’re saying, but you’re going to have a much easier time convincing 4 people to agree to let you have a drop than you are convincing several million people to a set of rules that are at their heart arbitrary.

A second option, on your side, is to farm up the gold to buy the item, because you have a 100% chance of getting gold, instead of a 0.0000000001% chance of getting your item.

I usually just counter it with something like, “If you get A, then I want B” and people are usually fine with it. There isn’t that much contested loot that all 5 people in a dungeon run will be trying to get the same piece really.

That sounds like a reasonable agreement.

You’re super lucky then.
I"ve seen people needing on everything, green, blue, or otherwise.
I left the group because the leader wouldn’t kick them.

UBRS says sup

People wanted the Vanilla experience. Ninja looting and people getting screwed on gear was a quintessential part of the vanilla experience. Community comes into play then.

Not with layered servers and no realm forums.

Agreed, this sounds like a great solution and I’m surprised I haven’t heard this suggested before, because I genuinely can’t think of a downside that isn’t for someone trying to ninja it.

My other solution is if I see someone roll need on it that doesn’t actually need it, I’ll roll need as well and just hand it over to the person that does since we can now trade BoP’s within our party.

This is classic not retail. So, welcome to part of the adventure. Who you invite to your party matters. Good luck

The problem is you will never get everyone to agree to one thing. Loot rules should be discussed first thing in a group. It’s that simple. If someone doesn’t obey that, they will have a harder time in the future when they get blacklisted. That was a thing in vanilla wow.

Is this a troll?

It’s almost common knowledge.

Communication is key.

Generally
If it is something worth a lot of gold. It’s probably going to be need for all ppl.

Blues or greens will be greed unless you actually need it. If you don’t equip item you will be labeled. It’s very simple.

Always communicate before party begins.

Keep blizzard out of it. Head to retail if u get heartbroken. Feelings are part of the adventure, bad or good.

It will become part of your story.
