Utah / Midwest - Experiencing high latency (six.blizzardonline.net)

I’ve been experiencing some high latency (400ms - 800ms) to the Dalaran server for the last 2-3 days now. Normally I get around 70ms.

Using your Looking Glass tool, I think it’s on your end of things, but I can’t confirm it.

I’m on a Gigabit connection.
I’m not using WiFi between my PC and Router.

I’ve been having the same issue as you at what looks to be the same exact hop:

Edit: actually, my hop’s ip is slightly different than yours, but it’s still the same hop #

Yeah that’s the same subnet, so it’s no surprise you’re seeing it too.
WoW isn’t the only game affected, I’m seeing this issue in Overwatch as well.

Wish they’d acknowledge whether or not it’s something they can resolve or if I need to reach out to my ISP. Really dampens the weekend knowing I can’t play optimally right now.

Same problem, that IP range belongs to blizzard but why on earth is north american traffic being routed through the netherlands?

same issue for me and the tracert went out through atlanta and ended in amsterdam. after the ip in amsterdam the tracert got stuck. i’ve been getting disconnected from battlegrounds a lot. connecting to central timezone server.

So after reading about these Tracers going out from Atlanta and other places to the Netherlands, which is totally out of the U.S. where the player is. I am wondering if All these Massive Fires that are going on all over the place could be burning the towers in some spots, and Redirecting the Traffic? If this is the problem, it might be a problem until the towers can be Replace or Repaired.

Ip geolocation is about where the company that registered the ip is located, not where the up is physically located. It’s not going to the Netherlands.

Ive been saying hop 5 has been bad for weeks, but blizz tech support been ignoring. Even my isp mentioned blizz needs to look at it and untill they do we are all out of luck. Gotta remember its never blizzs fault, its the isps… Hop 5 says its not…

Yeah, I submitted a ticket to blizz yesterday and included multiple logs and this what they replied with:

I’m sorry to hear about the lag in World of Warcraft, I know how frustrating it can be trying to resolve them instead of just enjoying the game. Thanks a lot for the files you’ve provided. I’ve looked through them. I don’t see any problems in WinMTR or looking-glass file, all looks good to me.

Your latency makes a sharp increase at one point in the looking glass. It’s possible this is a problem hop. But, if you can post a winmtr it shows different information which is usually more useful. Can you run one for 10-15 minutes and post it. https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/27780

The hop 5 137.221.83.84 as posted above is not showing a problem. It is normal for that hop to show high latency and it doesn’t continue through the trace.

I am having a similar issue since Friday. Usually I play (Whisperwind) with 70ms, and have been getting long periods of 300-1500+ ms latency. Sent support ticket with tests from the looking glass and they respond that my ISP is likely deproritizing traffic to blizzard services. Contacted my ISP and they say there is no deproritizing of traffic.

Have 1Gbps weird fiber connection and haven’t experienced issues with other online games/services.

Hey Klicky,

Thanks for the screenshots of PingPlotter. I’ve been monitoring this thread for a bit and investigating on the back-end. As best I can tell (I’m no network engineer here) there could be an issue at SIX (Seattle Internet Exchange) that is affecting some internet providers. That is a major internet exchange hub and a bunch of different ISPs route through it. From your posts and other posts it seems the majority of players experiencing issues around SIX are connecting from Utah on business/fiber connections.

I’m going to edit the title of the thread to see if we can get others to post their WinMTRs/Looking-Glass/PingPlotters so we can hopefully collect more data around this issue and get it investigated further.

Playing from northern Utah, XMission ISP on 1Gbps fiber connection. Horrible lag since last Friday sometimes over 1500ms. Consistently 300-600+ ms world latency all tonight. Normal latency is 70ms.

I’d like to report that I’m no longer experiencing the lag I initially reported. Hopefully this isn’t just some lucky chance, but a permanent fix. I will continue to monitor for a little while to confirm.
