The forums can totally get to be a passionate place, but there’s a user that seems to be following me in every single thread, and just straight up harassing me. Never engages in conversation, they just try to troll and belittle me. It’s been going on for weeks, maybe a month now, and it really seems like something needs to be done.
Report it. Name and shame will only get you in trouble.
I’ve tried, but it doesn’t seem to have amounted to anything. It’s obvious the user is deliberately targeting me with their comments (and I really don’t know why?), and just seems like some kind of action needs to be taken.
I’d recommend editing your original post to remove the name.
As for taking action, do you have them on ignore? That’s the first and best way to deal with this.
Depending on what is being said, the post(s) may be reportable, but they’re allowed to post in any thread as long as their account is in good standing.
Have you put them on ignore? You won’t even have to see what they are saying. Otherwise, just continue to report him for trolling.
A quick look through your posting history, they seem to believe that you spam your ideas by making multiple posts through the day. And their repeated responses saying the same thing definitely falls within the realm of trolling, since it adds nothing to the conversation.
In general, you seem good at passively ignoring them, so I’d suggest to just keep reporting the trolling. However, if you’d rather, just place them on ignore and you won’t have to deal with seeing it.
Is there a way to ignore people on the forums? I actually didn’t realize that was even an option.
If people are going so far as directly targeting someone, though, I feel like they should get suspended (from the forums; not the game) for repeated offenses, or even banned if it goes on long enough.
EDIT: So, seems that us a user has their public profile set to hidden, it doesn’t appear there’s any way to ignore them? As least that I can find.
only if they are breaking the rules. Just posting will not get them in trouble
Ah, I was able to google how to ignore someone even with a private profile.
Thanks all!
You can still ignore them manually.
- Click on the little square icon of yourself in the top right of the forum
- Click on the symbol that looks like a person at the bottom of the box that opens (profile)
- Select Preferences
- Click on the Users section
- Click add and type their character name and it will generally give you the image of them and their server.
- Select them and choose to ignore forever or whatever amount of time you feel
Apparently they don’t care.
I had someone alt hopping to bypass my ignore and admitted to doing so right here on the CS forum but was told “yeah that’s fine.” I submitted a ticket and was told just keep putting them on ignore.
So yeah enjoy being stalked.
Sorry man
Yeah there are no rules right now on the forums against “bypassing Ignore”. That is only in game where the Ignore is actually account wide.
On the forums there is no notification that someone Ignored you. The system lets anyone not currently suspended reply to any thread they want as long as they don’t break the forum rules otherwise.
Someday we may actually get account wide ignore which should put an end to that. I don’t think they are going to implement the in-game rule about circumventing ignore though for the forums. The two are separate things.
For now, we are expected to use the tools we have for Ignore, and report anyone actually using language they should not. Just replying to you is not considered harassment on its own… it has to involved language that breaks the rules.
Yes, I know from personal experience. I kind of have a target painted over my head so there have been times someone just goes on a reply spree to things and MVP posts are easy to find. I save Ignore for those sorts of things.
Remove the name from the original Post.
While I cannot comment on what actions may or may not be taken regarding another user, please continue to report any post that you feel may violate our Code of Conduct. “Following someone around” on the forums isn’t exactly against policy, people may post in any thread they wish, provided they abide by our policies when doing so. If someone is crossing a line, reporting it will help establish what is happening and hopefully we can do something to discourage it continuing.
For clarity, you put in a ticket under Battle.net account > Not Listed here. Game Masters in general do not moderate. If you have a question about moderation you’ll usually want to put your ticket under “Can’t Post on Forums” for it to be directed to the correct folks. Otherwise, a GM is going to provide basic advice.
As for the “receipts”, I don’t really see anyone saying “it’s fine”. I can see where it was stated that simply circumventing someone’s ignore is not really against policy, which is mostly true, it isn’t generally something that is penalized on the forum.
In-game we can verify when someone places another on ignore, which is part of an ongoing harassment investigation, we cannot do that here. Simply engaging in discussion with someone on the forum isn’t necessarily a violation. It is the content of those posts that tend to matter. So, if the posts themselves violate policy, that is what we take into consideration.
One of the greens said there’s no rules against doing what they did and none of y’all stepped in to correct her.
In my books that’s pretty much saying “it’s fine.”
“It’s not against policy” is not the same as “It’s fine”. She’s not incorrect, but it is a bit more nuanced as circumventing ignore on the forums isn’t something we’d generally penalize for. Some of the activities that someone does in conjunction of doing that may be, but it generally depends on the situation and assuming it’s reported to be looked into.
You really should not put your own spin on what other people say. That is NOT what was said.
Nobody said it is fine. What was said was that it is not against the rules and your current option is to use Ignore.
I also said that may change when/if we get the WoW forum accounts set to Battlenet level where we get account wide ignore.
Last, I agreed that it is no fun to have it done to you and sympathized with the current lack of options.
Continuing the discussion from User on the forums seems to be harassing me in every post I make:
Correct. It is not against the rules. That is a factual statement. I did not say, or imply that not having rules against it is “fine”, or that I approve of that. Quite the opposite.
I said you said it wasn’t against the rules. It’s right here:
I think this can go in circles all day, so let’s agree that it isn’t a great option and we would like nothing more than to have more tools and policies available to address folks who operate in bad faith.
