Use downtime before TWW to perfect console port!

The game is designed with addons in mind, something console players wouldn’t have access to. You’d see groups purposely not invite console players since they can’t use weak auras or addons to help do boss fights or PvP.

Downtime for whom? The developers do not have downtime.

Okay, I glanced through most of the replies and I’m a little confused, probably because I’m only half way through my first cup of coffee for the day. :coffee:

OP are you talking about the Consoleport addon? Or are you referring to the game’s built in Gamepad support? Or are you talking about WoW actually getting ported over to consoles?

Either way;

Consoleport is a third party addon that Blizzard has no control over tinkering with.

The built in gamepad support does need a little work, which we probably will see some improvements with (hopefully) come TWW.

Porting WoW over to consoles will probably never happen even with Microsoft being the parent company now.

I can see them considering adding it to xcloud and maybe creating a native xbox version if there is interest (this seems much less likely though). But the OP claiming that creating a console port in the downtime between now and TWW release would be doable is just silly.

You also have to consider the fact that maintaining an xbox-version of WoW would significantly increase development cost (when we can all see Blizzard has been trying to reduce costs last few years). Could this increased development cost be justified by the increase of subscribers who play WoW exclusively on Xbox? And even if the new xbox only subscribers generated enough revenue to offset increase in development costs, is a game with declining population something you want to increase investment in when you could instead acquire other companies or further develop existing / create new franchises?

Name checks out.

Honestly? A console port would just not work. The game would have to be redone quite a bit to get it to work.

It works so well for games like FFXIV and even ESO because they were designed that way. WoW was not.

How do I do 40+ keybinds on a controller? Do I enter the ha-dou-ken code for arcane orb?

As long as I have the option to opt out of cross play.

Which every game with cross play typically has.

Due to not having add ons, a player on console would be at a massive disadvantage.

It did both when OP opened with the concept of there being developer downtime in the eight or so months before an expansion release.

I repeat…

LMFAO

I’m not for having console play in WoW. However, if it happens, it needs to be kept in mind that WoW is a computer game. We should not have our selection of abilities reduced/pruned just to accommodate latecomers that choose to play with fewer buttons.

To be fair, some controllers have so many buttons and paddles that they can easily have 8-button combinations for abilities. I’d wager a significant portion of the WoW community at large is doing good to have Shift/Ctrl/Alt modifiers for the 1-5/6 number row.

As long as there is no crossplay. That would be horrible.

This game is over 10 years past its prime, and the time to have done a console port has long passed.

Pretty much anyone who wanted to play WoW has done so and knows where to get it. They boasted in 2014 that they had surpassed over 100 million unique accounts. We’re fluctuating somewhere around 3% of that subscribed today.

I can appreciate the enthusiasm that’s been shown by dozens of other original posters like you in the past, but I just don’t see it happening.

You don’t understand anything about software development, do you.

You have the ownership relation backwards there.

lol - Sounds like every MBA wanna be SW Manager I have dealt with on various contracts over the last decade.

God I’d love to be able to play WoW with a controller like I do FFXIV.

It’s a HUGE performance loss for most specs to use a controller.

This game in it’s current state would be totally unplayable on consoles. It’s too complex, to many buttons, to much target swapping and too much to track. Imagine trying to heal high level mythics with a controller. Imagine rated pvp with a controller. It wouldn’t work without a massive overhaul of in game systems, the ui, the control and targeting structure, and pruning. It’s not going to happen.
