Sounds as if you had a lucky escape out of that guild. Inexcusable behaviour and very toxic. I’m not gay, but I have friends and colleagues who are, never had a problem hanging out or having a laugh. All the best to you.
Would you tell a black person to toughen up if they’re called the n-word? Or tell jews to toughen up and laugh along with holocaust jokes? Blizzard is still pretty strict on these types of tos violations. They don’t think gays, blacks, jews should toughen up, they suspend people. I report these violations every time I see them.

You’re not going to get much support on these forums, but I will tell you that you’re aboslutely right and I’ve noticed the same thing.
The internet has always been a place for sleuths to flourish behind anonymity, but it’s definitely gotten worse in recent years, specifically in the WoW community, but also in society as a whole.
Extreme politics and general divisiveness of our age surely play a part, but its not the whole story. Racists and bigots feel emboldened and vindicated by some of the idiots in our headlines who vaguely support their values and fan the flames of anger.
In 2004 the average population who played this game were sensitive super-nerds who were probably bullied in school. They were (mostly) open and inclusive of others. It was a welcoming place where people could just be themselves no matter how nerdy and uncool they were.
These days… not so much. The negativity, toxicity and general viciousness from the WoW community is rampant. The sensitive nerd-types have (mostly) moved on to have full, meaningful and thriving lives. They no longer need games.
Overwhelmingly, the ones who remain have been festering in their online worlds for decades, becoming increasingly angry and radicalized in their weird little echo chambers.
This is just my opinion.
The gdkpers are getting very mad
Just report them.
Blizzard bans for those things all the time.
Turns out if you aren’t a Billionare you can’t just say dumb stuff like that and get away with it.
These people need to learn their place.
Agreed, its of the steps needed to eliminate basic hunan rights. If you can’t express yourself then you are doomed.
Dude, it’s China. They don’t have rights to begin with.
Classic wow is a cesspool. I’m gay, I’m been called a faerie. I’ve been told my character looks like a faerie. People in discord call people f-slurs. I’ve been called a f-slur this go around. When people talk about their wives and I say the same stuff but replace wife with husband people go silent. Its 2025 and people are acting here like its the 80’s.
Oh man I genuinely feel bad for you. Not because people were mean to you in a video game but somehow your reality of the last 20 years has been warped.
Since the beginning of WOW and basically when humans started using the internet they have said sexist racist homophobic and generally just evil things. Now here’s where we get to the problem. You still somehow for some reason care. Video games and the internet are not real life. People are going to troll for attention and I’d say a very large portion of these people probably don’t even believe the things they say they just want attention or the gratification of knowing they pissed someone off.
This is especially true on anniversary servers where everybody seems to be pissed off at each other because there are far too many people on the far too few servers.
I ignore at least 10 people a day everyday I play and the chat just keeps going so yeah.
Get off the internet or stop taking the internet so seriously those are the options
You can tell this person never had to fight for our rights or was even around during the sanfranciso police beating us to death. The irony here is that gay people have literally died due to their government not giving them care and fought back to get it and you’d still say gay people need to be stronger. Learn your history buddy. Reminder it has only been a short 40-50 years since then. It was only 75 years ago that people were arrested for simply being thought to be gay. A single lifetime.
It’s a video game. The only power words have is what you give them.
This is just not true. Bigotry is stopped by calling it out and making it not welcome.
After desegregation laws were imposed, but worked around by places suddenly being “at capacity” it stopped by calling it out, protesting, boycotting, and making the people doing it uncomfortable.
Anyone saying words don’t matter doesn’t understand the power words have, that speaking out against terrible behavior has. Being indifferent to, complacent of, or silent in the midst of bad behavior only makes it grow. When it grows it gets worse. Words become violence, and even laws that strip away rights.
Just for an example, in the united states we’ve had already 2 states demand the supreme court revisit the right of marriage for gay people to overturn it. If you don’t call it out, it will grow to more states.
Staying silent is not the right thing to do. Not ever. If you get uncomfortable for people speaking up then you should be uncomfortable by people who are saying the slurs to begin with.
It’s not about who you sleep with, it’s about how good your logs are.
I’m not a big fan of the non-trade chat subject matter on Trade Chat, but I have not seen any homophobia or bigotry.
I use ignore all the time which really helps squelch the trolls.
WoW is a role-playing game in a fantasy world. If a person makes their real life sexuality or politics an issue and advertises it, they are bound to run into people who will disagree with them. People play MMORPGs like WoW to escape the real world.
It’s a video game. There’s a difference.
You know why people act this way? So threads like this get created. You take away their power by ignoring them. Report them if you want and let Blizz do their thing. But don’t react; that’s exactly what they want.
Obvious maga people. They are the sheep that gave the country to russia. Just ignore and move on and hope they don’t breed.
