Updated textures and models for Classic WoW

Every new idea is a troll post because Blizzard have flat out stated that if you want modern WoW features, BfA/live is already there. There’s no need to split the playerbase and increase Blizzard’s operating costs.

If you have a different taste, again - BfA is already there for you.

Technical aspects are not the same thing as completely different textures and models.

Oh you know what? WoW without this classic-server. Still being the number one MMRPG on the world and the only survivor of the golden ages of the mmrpgs

FF14 is death,
FF11 is death
Aion is death
Black desert is death

WoW keep over 5M subs and during expansions over 10M of players without your “classic-wow” man. So what are you talking about?

You talk as EVERYTHING post VANILLA-WOW were mistakes, mistakes and mistakes of blizzard. MMRPG is already a dead genre and is because MOBA.

Mobas killed our MMRPG-GENRE because this games give you instant rewarding feeling and instant pvp without needing like 100 hours of grind to do something.

So blame the mobas and pray blizzard keep this dead-genre alive.

All of you respond the same when you have no more arguments, the fact of updated models doesn’t change the vanilla experience and much less if you could switch between graphics styles

The difference will be like someone with very poor sight putting their glasses on.

It’s not in, it’s to late to go through reworking animations to make it fit. Done deal.

I don’t know why people think the old models and graphics are so dated. They’ve aged quite well and look great at 1080p atleast. You won’t find a game this old that could pass for a modern game the way original wow can…

In any case, what’s done is done. Also, despite having lightning fast fiber, I don’t want to download, nor sacrifice SSD space to the modern graphics, textures, models, etc… since I have no intention of using them. Just a waste of system resources.

The new models can use the old animations just fine. What do you think they used before all the updated animations in Legion?

Personally I wouldn’t mind if the option was there. I thought Blizz did the new models right; updated the textures while keeping the individual of the flavor of each race. Wanna see a botched new model job? Look at EQ.

I don’t like new graphics. They aren’t better, just different.

People forget that when Blizzard first updated models they actually had a toggle. You were able to switch between old and new depending on your preference. However, the toggle never worked right and only caused problems. Blizzard was never able to fix it and ultimately just scrapped it.

If they were never able to make it work in retail, why would they ever put resources towards trying to make it work in what is essentially (from a business standpoint) a side project?

The toggle worked completely fine until the Legion pre-patch. This is one of those things that gets said and then repeated a hundred times despite being completely false.

Show some evidence that it didn’t work during WoD. I’ll wait.

just make a classic+, separate from museum classic, that has retail models by default, guild banks, karazhan crypts as a dungeon, emerald dream as a raid, medivh’s tower as a dungeon, high elves for alliance, ogres for horde, 4th spec for classes, and various/sundry experimental things they wanted to do but never got around to it, for whatever reason.

maybe we could get a whole season regarding the repair of gnomeregan city and let the gnomes get their home back

4th specs could be used to bring race requests in that have been thus far denied because of how hard it is to create armor for them. examples are dryads, keepers of the glade, ethereals, liches, banshees and so on.

the 4th spec would have a form talent in its talent tree that could be specced into and provide specific perks, such as dryad/keeper of the glade form for druids, would be some buff to fae magic and the 4th spec itself would feature fae spells.

warlocks could get a necro spec as their 4th spec, where the specialize in undead pets like val’kyr instead of demons and have a liche or banshee form talent.

shaman could get a bard spec as their 4th spec, where their totems are replaced by troll tribal war drums, each provided some group wide buff. they would place them directly on the ground around them in a semi circle and run back and forth between them to provide some group effect. interactive totems.

for example. :sunglasses:

mages could get a wizard spec as their 4th spec. see the floating dr. strange mog on the left *play video to see it (warning language),

that could be the wizard form, always doing the floating crossed legged monk thing, but the wizard spec itself would be all about controlling time.

WoW isn’t the highest rated nor the most popular MMO anymore. MMO as a genre in the west isn’t as big as it used to be due to the prevalence of multiplayer in so many other games. The most popular MMO has always been in the east. We also don’t know what the subscriber count is for FF14 nor WoW, but WoW has had a horrible last several years and FF14 is growing.

You do realize the intent behind Classic, right? That it’s a museum piece (Blizzard’s own words) and is intended to be as faithful to vanilla as possible? Come back in two years when Naxx is done and we’ll talk then. Until then, the only focus should be Classic. Blizzard also intentionally did what they did to WoW to keep their subscribers, and Classic is for us - to finally be back to the WoW we like.

I wouldn’t be choked up if they added these things, but they are simply not vanilla models or textures - so there’s no reason to have them in the game.

It’s a moot point. They aren’t in and aren’t going to be in…

Yes please

I think we should see how it goes and let Classic settle in, first. Right now the fanbase is very touchy. A lot of us have some very strong, unflattering opinions about Blizzard and the direction it has taken the game. Some of us are still reserving judgement until after launch to see if we’ll stick around for Classic or just jump ship entirely.

Assuming Classic is a satisfying, authentic experience and we’ve all calmed down a little and settled in, I do want to see a Warcraft Reforged treatment. But only on condition that it is completely optional and vanilla graphics are enabled by default. I think any graphical improvements need to be opt-in, not made default and certainly not bugged or incompatible with vanilla models/textures/etc.

If they cannot update models and textures without breaking the old ones it absolutely shouldn’t happen.

You know you missed your spatula feet!

To be fair, this doesn’t have to be an in-game toggle. It can be an authorized, warden-whitelisted patch you exit out of the game to download and install. There’s no need to try to fix the toggle, that sounds like extra, unnecessary work on top of making new models and animations compatible with Classic in the first place.

I’d rather just see them up poly counts on existing models and utilize some well-trained AI to upscale the vanilla textures so none of them are pixellated.
