Was this supposed to be fixed yet? It’s STILL BUGGED. How can you hotfix class balance changes but then just let this run for days? It’s supposed to be one of the main features we’re paying for.
Was out farming the caravan vendor in desolace a good part of the day today. Yesterday the vendor stops were essentially warzones, today I haven’t seen a single person out there.
Now I’m sitting in astranaar immediately after the event ends and its a total ghost town vs last night, not sure stopping the layer culling at night for the event was worth the world feeling completely dead off hours.
As long as you nerf everyone who is not me and buff everyone who is me. I have no issue with these changes
Really wish there was a solution that didn’t involve this because as a late-night player I was really enjoying how alive the world felt even so late.
Also if you plan to do another PvP event please do something that will force the raids to crash into each other like capture points, king of the hill, or something like that. Basically I don’t want another zerg-fest I want a colossal battle that makes everyone in the zone fight.
The battle is going to happen like twice a day at this rate. I’ve been waiting an hour for it to move 10%
Very interesting read, thank you. I like the idea of collapsing low population layers, maybe it can be brought back later with tweaks?
Couldn’t get it done before because of bugs and now it seems with it being literal hours between battles, I still won’t be getting it done except now it’s intended for me not to.
GG
Blizzard really does want us to exploit early and exploit often.
It’s the only way to actually engage the features they introduce.
I know you wanted to create world pvp but i cant help but think that this system would have been better as some form of instanced content. PvP with PvE objectives like how Alterac Valley is or WOD Ashran. Maybe throw a little warfronts in there. I dont think that would have strayed too far from Classic WoWs philosophies.
Thank you for the transparency! I do appreciate your efforts. Since Holly is still kicking around, have you considered cribbing from EverQuest and their TLPs?
When their zones become too crowded they spin up “picks” much akin to our layers (but far less dynamic). One of the features i think is a strong candidate for emulating is that when their “base” zone or other older picks drop below a predetermined threshold, the pick locks (no one can hop to it) and a 15 minute warning is issued. Then, at the end of the 15 minutes (assuming population conditions are not met in the base/sub picks) the pick collapses and people are dumped into main.
Im just not going to do the ashenvale event takes too long now and ive been in here everyday.
Thank you for the extra info.
Whilst painful when it happened (felt like a whole day once) I still think it is better than a ptr. As much as I would try I would inevitably read about it on a site and how to min/max it if it was not available to me at the time.
Not PTR = Discovery, for me at least
So how the horde have to wait 3 hours to lose one game cool good event
so is it triggered now by time of day and not by activity of killing things?
Honestly creating some Warfronts with the more simple Classic mechanics has been something I REALLY hope they do. Warfronts should have always been PvP and this is their chance to make that a reality. I want a proper “tug-of-war” type WPvP and I really think they’re onto the thing with “Lieutenants and Generals giving huge buffs” thing because it gives players who are clearly on the losing side a reason to not give up just because the tide is against them at the moment.
Well, maybe if your only focus in design wasn’t just giving the class you play all the toys you wanted when growing up, you could have actually had a plan in mind to begin with.
EDIT: And the problem isn’t an issue with layering, the problem IS layering. Full stop. Even if you fix the issue with people being relayered mid battle, it doesn’t change the fact there’s a pop cap in each zone for each layer so once that threshold is met then the faction with the most players will always win no matter what, because it’s impossible for the faction with the least players to get more in to even things out.
Literally EVERY design decision you’ve made about SoD, from the little things like where players find runes, to the mid level things like how the runes affect each class, to the large things like the design of Ashenvale and it’s bosses and how you get players engaged…they’re all set up to ensure that Alliance wins no matter what. And because of it you’re going to keep having all of these problems in every phase. Because you DIDN’T have a plan, beyond “man, wouldn’t it be cool if my paladin had everything I wanted back then and could win all the time?!”
These changes are worst and all because of just one event, the world will feel empty, because of one event, less wpvp, because of one event, less rp because of one event. Even the event itself now is worst cause it takes forever to progress now… I don’t know the solution to this blizzard, but this one aint it.
I guess having zero pvp events a day solves the problem
Right now our server is going up 1% every 30 minutes or so.
Yeah unfortunately some of us work a lot and we cannot spam Asheville as soon as it comes out and you only made it take us even longer as always. Just put a 60 minute timer on it and get rid of the resources all together.
Agreed with everyone else here; 3 hours is way WAY too long. Additionally, layer spin-down has done an excellent job of making worlds feel alive and full at all hours, and removing it feels like way too much of an over-correction (for a different problem, no less) that results in a worsened experience across the entirety of the world as a whole.
Don’t break the world to fix one zone. This is way too much.
so… is it still based on killing in the zone or is it a time of day thing? aka it will spawn at noon, 4pm, 10pm and 6am?
