completely disagree, if you think the game is less dumbed down than it was in wotlk (its peak) idk what to tell you, would argue it was completely straight forward until even wod/legion. You have so much min/maxing potential and nuances compared to the older versions of wow. Base wow is much more player new friendly which again, is a good thing if you want the game to actually live and not die out like every other MMO who didnt change
The social aspect and the lackof focus on the timegates, and instead simply grinding early game more, is what built up wow, imo.
I went into the minutiae more here:
When you make the game about minmaxing your weekly timegates rather than simply grinding the game itself, dont be surprised when the community aspect gets cannibalized.
I am talking about wod and legion when the game was dumbed down and classes were stripped of a lot of things. You don’t remember the great pruning or the terrible talent tree changes we had?
Those were when wow was trying to cater to the bad players and we had the mass exodus.
They have went back on that philosophy some and numbers were getting better but still won’t ever be the same as it was.
i can understand that, but to me $15 a month is nothing, people pay more for that for starbucks, netflix, etc so I don’t mind 50 cents a day to pay for my only entertainment form (well that and cable so i can be online to play a game)
Factually false. Artifact weapon was given for free, titanforging existed, legendary crafting existed, currently the hardest content is high M+ keys and they don’t drop anything more than hero track.
Your statement is verifiably wrong in many levels, just like many of your previously wrong takes that you only say to support a previously wrong take that someone else proved to be false as well.
Just take the L, everyone is one again destroying you and abusing your lifeless body. Easiest idiot to prey on in this entire forum.
It is about the point. I can afford it too, but I have negative interest in giving a company money because theyre trying to troll with systems design for said money.
Ive spent more money on marvel rivals than my entire existence in WoW. I dont reward bad behavior by a company.
If blizzard wants my money, theyll need to let WoW stand up on its own and drop the antagonistic rent seeking design that makes progression fake and ruins the natural playstyle I want.
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to suggest you can’t afford it, i shouldn’t respond to forum posts pre-coffee.
I just mean to be continually in a game world, i dont mind 50 cents a day for my game time. I play about 2 hours a day after work, so for me, 50 cents for those 2 hours i don’t mind the expense.
Personally i think the sub model is a GOOD one, because it can only be maintained by successful games, and that means they have a very large income stream from their subs to keep the game updated, growing, keep a full time crew working on it, etc.
to me this is why FFXIV and WOW are the two big dogs and always will be for the forseeable future
“antagonistic rent seeking design”?
Is netflix guilty of that?
is your cable provider?
is everyone else who charges monthly for entertainment guilty of that?
do you expect everything in life for free?
I think the problem is your outlook and entitlement friend
Massive pruning began in BFA not wod/legion. Medium exodus in WoD was because the content cut, there was literally nothing to do in the game and a whole raid + the entire starting experience was cut. Legion it rebounded a bit and did fine because of the amazing side content and order halls, BFA it did worse because they doubled down on AP which people hated in legion.
Then the real mass exodus came in shadowlands where the game was extremely restrictive and was not friendly to your time whatsoever.
WoW catered towards hardcore players more in legion/bfa/SL more than any other xpacs in wows history because of the absurd amount of grinding you had from AP, to reps, to essences (rep grinds in SL were horrendous along with cov restrictions). Game’s philosophy now is heavily catered towards respecting peoples time and limiting excessive grinds and is much healthier. Game died off in any xpac they tried to be hardcore in the modern era
When I say rent seeking design, it is wherein you are playing the timegates instead of the game itself. Not the actual subscription model…
Timegate timeout where you dont have actual control over your progression wherein you have to sit in timeout for the rest of the week rather than allowed to play at your own pace is absolutely terrible.
It is why a lot of us hate the vault and raid lockout model. Having bad rng is fine, having only 1 chance at bad rng you cant play around is not. It makes it feel fake and worthless. I want to play the game, not the systems.
I have negative interest in ever giving Blizzard a dime until they stop trying to troll with timegates and let the game play out naturally with giving us real agency over our own progression.
No in my argument I literally list something happening right now which has also been in retail for many seasons. Reading comprehension issue, cherry picking, delusion. Wrong again, easily proved as well, nothing changed, you don’t learn.
Literally just proved this statement to be wrong with the reply 2 inches above this one. Get rekt.
It isn’t incorrect, you are just misremembering or have a very odd definition of pruning. “BFA was azerite power” completely ignores all the other changes they made. Your arguments for making the game around hardcore players is what kills the game, their overwhelmingly majority audience is non max level and casual max level players. They make content for people who want very hard content (high m+, mythic raid) but most of the systems are designed to be more player friendly which is a good thing, they give classic versions of wow to people who want the game like it used to be.
IF they added useful/desired items.
(Hypothetical # incoming)
If your chance at the good stuff is 1/7 now i doubt it will feel better to have your chance ramp up to an amazing 1/20 to get something you want.
Borrowed power doesn’t mean not pruning, again you have a very warped definition of what pruning means. Might wanna reflect on yourself and realize you are wrong in a lot of your statements as multiple people have pointed out. It is ok to be wrong as you said.
