What’s up with the General Discussion Forum?

Been reading the general forums and it seems that a lot of people over there are under the impression that we are trying to relive the vanilla experience.

That is simply not the case. None of us can recapture what we’ve already experienced and make it feel as if it’s the 1st time again, that’s simply impossible.

The reason why there’s hype for Classic is because of the gameplay itself. I’ve been playing retail all the way from 2006 up to patch 8.2, and after experiencing 48hrs of the stress test I can simply conclude that though both retail and classic may look the same, they are entirely different games all together.

I personally have never felt that level of adventure and grandness that I had on the Classic stress test since MOP.

that’s true, but i’d also say i’m playing for a little bit of both

In a sense I am trying to relive Vanilla. At least I’m trying to relive the game.

What I’m not trying to do is relive the exact same personal experience I had in 2004. I’m not 15 anymore and my biggest worries in life aren’t my English homework and figuring out if my crush likes me or not.

I’d like to have a new experience with the same old game that I loved as a teenager.

Raiding on my 3rd alt was not a new experience, yet i still created many level 60 alts for purpose of raiding and pvp.

I liked the gameplay and community not the fact that it was a new experience.

The fact that we can reopen the gates, etc makes it that much better.

People like to throw out “it’s just nostalgia!” when you reference older superior products. But it’s not just nostalgia. Classic, despite all its flaws, was better than today’s garbage. Crusade/wrath were definitely the best of Warcraft, but they’re obviously not going to start with those.

Honestly I’m not looking to relive the vanilla experience but it seems a heck of a lot more appealing then retail does right now, I hate all the changes and things that where removed after Cataclysm.

If they just went back to the classic abilities and talent system with all the retail content added in then I would go back, but of course they wont do that because they dont want to make all the newer players who just joined mad…

Yeah its a made up argument to take away from the idea that other people may like things you don’t. Nostalgia is simply a fond memory of past things. However Retail players love to use it to mean “Old things can only be awful and new things can only be amazing” which of course, shows they have no idea what the concept means or why they are using it.

Don’t really care what GD thinks/says/does. I quit caring about nit-noy stuff like that decades ago.

It is my opinion that retail-only players are jealous of the excitement and hype over here on the Classic forums / by Classic enthusiasts, and feel threatened that we are actually getting what we want for a game. These days everything has become an ‘us vs. them’ mentality, and if ‘we’ are getting more, then ‘they’ want to belittle ‘us’. People love shoving their fingers in their ears and supporting their side No Matter What.

The sheer number of low-count posters popping up on the Classic Forums and provoking (“you guys are rigid”) and trolling (“how about this change”) to me speaks that because they aren’t getting their candy, they want to spit on ours. SAD.

Let the general forums barf all over Classic. That is the perfect forum for them to be vomiting. We vomit over retail in the Classic forums after all.

True

I look at it more like when the grandparents visit and they go “back in my day” and “times were such easier back then” and you kinda roll your eyes and laugh but inside you love and grew up with all the technology advances of modern day.

  • Turns on Tv and goes through all the news channels *
    Sounds about right.

The Burning Crusade was the best of Warcraft

If you find that so funny, perhaps you should check out the keyboard cat videos on YouTube. I’m not going to judge.

What’s up with the General Discussion Forum?

In short: Tribalism

In Long: They see Classic fans as a separate group of people, people who are threatening their way of life (retail). Because they feel threatened they resort to verbal attacks (the only weapon available on a forum) to try and either make Classic fans seem like lesser individuals, or to make it seem like their opinions (e.g. Classic is good) are not valid.

If you have something to say about the people in general discussion, please go and post in general discussion. We don’t care about general discussion.

Thanks.

Heh, i enjoyed classic gameplay (i also have fun in retail). But for some reason when I think of playing classic I just want to return to Dark Shore. When I first played vanilla, for some reason, Dark Shore was burned into my brain as a place that I really feel like a lived in for a time.

Can’t wait to go back.

I think many of the retail players don’t understand that for some of us, nostalgia isn’t why we’re excited for Classic. Nostalgia is the reason we login and play a bit of each new xpac before getting bored and switching off.

so does that mean that they’ll look back on BfA as being awful while thinking that patch 18.0 is amazing, even if it’d turn worse than the BfA release?

Most people on the general forums are casuals that only do world quest and pet battles who think BFA is the best expansion Blizzard has ever made.
