Upcoming Adjustments to Retribution Paladins

Well this is useless in pvp. Hand of Reckoning doesn’t work on players.

HoR does not work in PVP, and will not work after this patch. The blue post says as much.

Vengeance can be stacked fasted in PVP, but that will only be useful in teams with high burst and low CC. Vanguards maybe? Scooby Doo cleave?

That kind of thinking is why I do wish they’d just adjusted some passive talents. Like bring Vengeance back up to 15% at 3 stacks or increase Righteous Vengeance to 45% over seconds. Those kinds of adjustments are probably easier to fine tune as needed. But perhaps they figured those kinds of buffs would shift pvp balance more than they’d like.

Derp. Sorry, I typo’d that. Meant to say “for pve”. My mistake.

Ahh, I see.

Yeah, you’re not wrong.

When you proc SoV it does damage based weapon damage and the number of stacks on the target, it has an additional component that applies a dot that does damage based on sp and ap.

With this change rets are getting additional procs every time they cast CS (every 6 seconds) and DS (every 10 seconds). Meaning that first component with weapon damage based on stacks is going to happen more frequently. This also means rets will achieve that 5 stack quicker. This is a good thing.

It is definitely a very good change. I’m almost happier about that than the HoR glyph. Waiting to stack 5 HV with autoswings sucks.

I think the blue post is a little unclear about Divine Storm applying stacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if it only applies a stack on the mob you’re currently targeting, so that Seal of Command still has a valid role. Of course, that’s assume Command wouldn’t beat Vengeance on AoE anyway, due to aoe trash dying before multiple stacks of HV.

Yep. It’s good for PVE, that much is clear. I’d be curious to see the PVP implications.

It’s not really noticeable. It’s less than 170 dps in a 3 min fight.

Sov cannot proc the weapon dmg from aoe. It’s only applying a stack

HoR doesnt scale with anything. if anything its going to be less impactful in toc and icc

It’s not a great change to add Hand of Reckoning as a major glyph due to the mana issues it will cause, maybe as a talent in the lower Ret tree or even a minor glyph?

Also The DoT ramp up time is a good change and may ever so slightly increase Rets dps. I don’t really see these changes being what completely fixes the issues here.

So what about making Seal of Corruption/Vengeance DoT debuff that ticks every few seconds able to crit after reaching the 5 stacks and bake it into one of the lower Retribution talents near the bottom of the tree? So that it will be Ret exclusive. That would likely bring us to middle of the pack. To be honest I don’t see why the DoT damage wasn’t able to crit this whole time. If not that than what about buffing Crusader Strike back up a little bit? Say to 105%-110% weapon damage talented?

t9 bonus makes it crit lol

I think making the glyph a minor instead of major would be better than us rets having to replace glyph of judgement or exorcism

No you’re talking about Righteous Vengeance DoT that’s applied after dealing a crit with Judgement, Crusader Strike or Divine Storm. I’m talking about the seal DoT from the seal itself.

Rets don’t currently use exorcism, they typically use Consecrate or Wings. Replacing either is a dps gain without question.

Currently you can gear swap one item to get expertise and then sub out vengeance instead which is the best gain.

Everyone likes to pretend Ret glyphs are so good, but they are really not. Extremely passive compared to what other classes get.

Its been mathed out at the low end without crits at 500 dps gain flat. More likely in the 800s and scales with Attack Power. This is a “very” good change with minimal pvp or rotational impact.

And before any of the PvPers want to say that will be OP then learn how to PvP better. As it stands we are heavily penalized as is for using defensives to where our damage is cut down by a flat 50% and we can’t even auto attack either if we were to bubble. All of our damage buffs/ debuffs can easily be cleansed, purged or stolen. We are easily kitable, etc. etc. So if you allow a Ret to sit on you and stack it up you deserve to get your butt whooped frfr.

Imagine if consecrate ticks could crit lol

My holy barf would be so powerful…

Oh you already know. But then Prot would want that one too and the whole point is so that it’s Ret exclusive to bring an utterly almost useless spec in PvE that’s constantly denied access to raids these days and literally laughed at and called a joke by every class including our own Holy and Prots. Even if we managed to brown nose or know someone that could get us in we aren’t exactly given much loot and even if you win you get to hear “Omg it’s such a waste, why are you letting Ret roll on anything? In fact why is he even in our raid?”
