Upcoming Adjustments to Retribution Paladins

In Ulduar hm gear fury warriors are simming in the top half of dps specs.

Right now, and for all of Wrath Classic to this point, warrior dps specs both suck and their tank spec is worse than prot paladin.

Oh the irony. You realize this is the last balance patch of wotlk and not the balance as it was back then, right?

You do know warriors become the absolute best melee class in the game by miles right?

Believe me… Everyone and their brother will be swapping warrior just for ICC kickassery

I don’t think they surpass rogues or DKs “by miles,” no.

So what do they do with Ret then when that time comes?

You can quote where they said these changes will bring Ret dps in line with what Fury dps is now.

So since Fury will become the best melee class, do they just keep buffing Ret to compensate?

because of pvp

Pegging the expansion to 3.3 balance was necessary since you couldn’t, nor would want to, follow the iterative journey Greg’s team had to take through patches.

But it’s still a change, so that line is crossed. And unless private servers are a source there’s no official data to base expectations on.

At the same time, this isn’t Vanilla or TBC. Weirdly large disparities don’t jive with the one that popularized “bring the player.” And these are weirdly large disparities. Are those worth defending? It feels like everybody’s in on the secret but your team.

Nope. We will have our T10 bonus by that time, and should be where we are supposed to be.

So then revert these changes once ICC comes out?

Rets fine in ICC. I think in full bis they do about 3rd or 4th highest melee.

The issue here was simply that ret loses some of their kit/passive bonuses and dont get to use them until ICC.

If they want to nerf ret back at that point thats fine, but no reason to just let them suffer. Gotta be aware that we already are not the same as we were in original wrath. Seal of Vengeance and the current playstyle was “designed” for the final tier. There is no basis for how we shoudl play in t8 using the current class design.

  1. I don’t approve of class balance changes being made.

  2. I especially don’t approve of an off-GCD damage ability being added. All that means is that optimal play is to macro it into everything and never think about it again.

Overall, I think this is a bad change.

Top 5 DPS Rankings in ICC Single Target (original wotlk)

  1. Fury Warrior - 18.5+k dps
  2. Fire Mage - 18k dps
  3. Combat Rogue - 17k dps
  4. Ret Paladin - 16.7k dps
  5. Marks Hunter - 16.5k dps

Warriors are a solid 10% ahead of the next melee class. Thats nothing to smirk at.

They were beasts and will still be beasts. Rogues are good too and are in a good place right now too, often sitting comfortably at the top of the charts and are very good to bring for hard modes.

Paladins are moving from 15th on the list to… 14th, maybe 13.

Holy hell its not that big a deal lol

Sure. That’s 100% fine with me.

They could add the GCD when glyphed. Im ok with that.

And I don’t care if they put quality changes to other classes.

Shamans need their totems to reset on wipes/boss kills.
Mages should be able to apply 5% crit with fireball/frostfire so they play closer to warlocks in buff maintenance.
Warrior and Combat rogue shouldn’t be the only source of 4% damage buffs. Toss it on Paladin or Hunter too.
Brez shouldn’t be stuck only on Druid and be given to DK like it will be in future expacs.

There is an infinite amount of quality changes that could be made that would help groups that have composition problems. It doesn’t have to be crappy just because it used to be crappy lol

And where did you get this from?

Free damage off the GCD isn’t worth using? Were you dropped on your head?

It will be on the next reset lmao.

It’s 200 dps tops over AW if you knew how to play.

Such wow, much amaze

Warmane forums posted in 2015 as well as double checking with P-server info, Wowhead posts at the time from comments and questions.

Also… I did play wrath back in the day (back then I was a warlock) and our warriors were chads. They were on the top of nearly every fight, with the singular exception of movement/cleave. Even then they were among the top.

It’s pretty well known that warriors become strong given the ArP they can get in ToC/ICC gear. I know the top guilds on my server are gearing them up in the rear preparing for some mains to swap. So outside of blizz nerfing them hard prepare your butt lol
