You do understand the number of high end Rogues playing Sub is essentially 0, right? This guy went Sub for one week and nearly matched multiple weeks of Combat clears that also had faster kills.
Sub does comparable single target DPS to Combat.

You do have to admit that your opinion on the matter lacks a lot of representation since sub rogues are not popular in the DPS world.
Until the scene for sub rogue DPS increases all we currently have for actual stats are the logs from wowlogs which showcase a trend of doing less than combat rogues, even in the higher ends. The one exception being the screenshots you have posted. Until sub rogues are proven en masse to be comparable to combat rogues, they will still remain the weakest rogue spec. I mean it’d be a fool’s errand to base your entire opinion on the exemptions to the rule.
Right. Nobody plays sub. This guy went sub for one week. He’s surely not extremely familiar with the spec. There are far fewer resources for playing sub than combat, too, and it plays completely differently than the other specs. And yet, he nearly matched the best of his numbers over 10 weeks of raiding as combat.
Did anyone say otherwise?
The outlying case I’m showcasing here positively reinforces my argument. Do you understand this? No one goes into a raid and puts up the best possible numbers they can in one clear. If he played it more often, those numbers would go higher and would close the gap on his Combat numbers even further.
You can’t say he’s a bad Combat Rogue cause he’s rank 93. You can’t say that he just got good RNG as Sub because he’s only done one clear. No one gets insane RNG on all bosses on one clear.
Combat and Sub are similar in single target DPS.
Sub also can get DOUBLE BLADE FLURRY with preparation, which is pretty sick for Kolo. All the rogue specs are pretty insane on him, but if that Kolo had died as fast as my fastest he would have been at 14.4k. Way better than what I did on that kill as mut/BF spec.
They are, period, no if and or buts
Hell yeah, I just like stuff like that. People not necessarily breaking the meta but doing things that very few people are doing and making people think a little outside the box.
This is probably the best version of the game for people to experiment with things.
Again, this remains to be proven as I have stated, a singular exception isn’t a concrete basis for proving something. You have highlighted a tippy top combat rogue with bis gear going into sub rogue for 1 week, the man’s an exemplar rogue player and can translate that into sub rogue but this is also with the factor of raid buffs en masse, having learned the fights inside out and with a veteran raid team. 1 instance is not enough to prove that sub rogues are en par with combat rogues for single target DPS.
It’s unfortunate that the sample size for sub rogue DPS is so small but basing it on the data we have it showcases that sub rogues cannot compete with combat rogues, hell they can barely compete with BM hunters for DPS, the 1 exemption to the rule is nothing more than that, an exemption, and from the looks of it sub rogues are bound for a downward spiral as their spec is slowly being out competed by assassin and combat rogues since sub rogues are inherently a pvp spec whilst the other 2 are intended for DPS.
Okay, I actually give up. Good luck!
Honestly who cares if it is or isn’t, it’s an 11 year old game just play the spec you find most engaging.
So I’m a sub rogue main now.
Sub plays completely differently, there’s just no way he optimized as well in that one week as he did in the best kills from 10 weeks of combat raiding. He’s in the rogue discord, I’m sure he would agree that he could do more dps.
It’s worse. But the difference in sims is smaller than you might think. If people actually practiced and played the spec, this would show in the data.
Do you shadow dance?
There are two versions, one that uses shadowdance and backstab as the primary builder and another that uses hemo. The rogue we’re talking about was using the hemo one, which is actually a little bit lower dps but it’s easier to play.
Well hopefully people pick up sub rogue and disprove my beliefs then.
Sidenote,
I think I got banned from the rogue discord for posting gachi memes.
Worth it.
I actually meant the Simonize discord.
Unlikely haha
I’m a shadow dance enjoyer
Don’t lose hope mate, trust me I had a similar situation with a character in a different game (LB in For Honor) and a decent way into the game it got shown just how good he was.
Also no idea what that discord is ngl.
Simonize is a rogue theorycrafter. He wrote the WoWhead guides for rogues.
That dude’s strange but I guess I am too kekw
