Its been awhile so I thought I’d talk about another tribe of furbolg, the Wildlands tribe.

There is very little known about these furbolg as we only encounter them on an Island Expedition but we can gleam a little bit of lore from the island and what we know of furbolg tribes. Another reason I find this particular tribe interesting is that they are entirely uncorrupted and have been since at least the War of the Saytr.
But first lets talk about the Verdant Wilds island.
The Verdant Wilds is an island expedition site that we visit during BfA. Its inhabited by Cenarius’ Children, furbolg and druidic peoples. The Island itself is infused with an abundance of Spirit the element of Life which drew these people to the island just after the War of the Saytr. The Druidic folk who dwell here believed that their humanoid forms were merely a guise and so choose to live their lives in seclusion on the island in balance with nature.
These denizens of the isles are independent from the factions and conflicts their peoples normally would partake in and defend their islands balance to the point of killing outsiders and trying to drive them away so they do not affect that balance.
Among these people are the Wildlands Furbolg. They have a smattering of notable named members including their chieftain, Gurlack, a “great warrior” named Timberfist, and at least two shaman (one likely a druid) named Earth Speaker Juwa and Seed-Keeper Ungan. Two more named warriors and two named elders are also included along with the standard array of furbolg “classes” such as warriors, totemics, shaman, ursa and trackers.
As a tribe untouched by corruption we can assume that much of their culture and use of these classes comes from their past and its just neat to see that our general understanding of furbolg culture has stayed strong for so very long.
Sadly all the furbolg on this island, along with the rest of its denizens, are hostile whether you’re horde or alliance so its plausible that during the timeline of BfA all the Wildlands tribe were wiped out or at least took heavy losses. However given their tribes nature and the other peoples living on that island being hostile to everyone its unlikely they’d have been a good candidate for a playable faction of furbolg anyways.
One other thing of note is that ALL of the Wildlands furbolg seem to be barely able to talk unlike most furbolg we encounter. This could be just a side effect of their isolation and the islands general belief that they should be more like animals rather than humanoids. Or it may be that the isolated nature of the island meant that this tribe of furbolg had little reason to learn other languages well.
This is a continuation of my furbolg tribes posts the rest of which you can find here.
