The ones in ashenvale keeps being a victim of NE vs Orcs everytime they fought, with the lastest example being the full scale attack in ashenvale.
The tribes Zuro is referring to are in Valāsharah among the Broken Isles.
Its been a few days and I thought today weād talk about the Thistlefur tribe of furbolg.

This tribe is one of those tribes where we have a little bit more information than others as theyāve been featured not just in game but also in some comics.
Their earliest lore starts just after the Battle for Mount Hyjal when one of their member (or possibly a member of the Barkskin tribe) acquired the corrupted Idol of Remulos bringing it back to their tribal lands in Ashenvale corrupting the tribe. Later Broll Bearmantle would cleanse the idol and cure the Thistlefur of their corruption.
This would not last however as they would later be embroiled tertiarily in the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. During which time the Horde would see them as being in the way and the Alliance would only really interact with them after they became corrupted.
According to the Hordeās Darkspear the Thistlefur tribe would steal a shipment of troll charms and become corrupted by the magics therein. One of the Thistlefur however, Vear Darksnout, would claim that the trolls gave them the charms as a gift, and only after did the charms inflict them with corruption.
This leaves how they got corrupted in some contention as Vear could be mistaken and the Horde and Alliance quest givers could be acting under false information.
Vear and the Alliance would see the charms removed freeing the Thistlefur once again from corruption.
Since then we havenāt really had much said or going on with these furbolg. I havenāt found any mentions of them during the War of Thorns, so I donāt think the Horde bothered with them as they moved through Ashenvale.
Given that they are supposedly uncorrupted now in the lore I think theyāre one of the best options for playable furbolg. Though I would imagine that they would be part of some sort of council rather than the only furbolg tribe playable.
Should also note theyāll need a new leader (though one has probably risen up in the meantime) as their previous known leader was killed during Cata.
This is part of my series of posts on the furbolg tribes the rest of which you can find here.
Ursol guide you and Ursoc give you strength.
They would indeed be a good pick, and it could be interesting to hear what they think is happening to their lands due to goblin pollution.
It is good to see there are quite a few potential tribes of Furbolgs that could make up the playable Alliance Furbolg faction. Not sure which one I would go for, myself, but I imagine having multiple tribes in the playable Alliance Furbolg faction would be best for RP purposes.

Playable Alliance Furbolgs is a bear necessity!
Another great post!
bumping in support of the thread!
Also Fen check out my new thread when you get the chance and drop your opinion on the idea.
Appreciate that. Iāll take a look.
Came across a neat art piece of a Pandaren and a Furbolg on DeviantArt. It was created by weremagnus and was uploaded to the website on July 23rd, 2015.
āFamily Treeā by weremagnus on DeviantArt
I feel like this art piece can show how there are differences between Pandaren and Furbolg. Not just in looks, but in culture, theme, and aesthetics. There is quite a difference between the two in many ways.
Itās a reason I can see playable Furbolgs being unique and having a different gameplay experience despite there being playable Pandaren. Even if playable Furbolgs would use an edit Pandaren model. I imagine they would still have different animations and such.
As such, I believe that Furbolgs can still offer a lot and would really bring in some much needed flavor to the Alliance. Not to mention that we have currently playable races that are from the same base race but have many differences. I donāt see why Furbolgs wouldnāt be the same situation.

Ah Lorewalker Cho! Love him.
Absolutely.
Pandaren are, for lack of a better way to put it, very refined compared to furbolg.
Thats also assuming their rumored link is real and both races came from the Jalgar. Which honestly I think they probably did.
Either way I think a lot of difference can be achieved with a modified pandaren rig for furbolg and their culture and setup would be very different than Pandaren.
I really donāt get folk who come by sometimes and say ānah, we already have pandaren.ā
Furbolg would be a very nice addition to the Alliance keeping with its themes while offering something that isnāt exactly a āhumanā with a different skin tone.
In my opinion, Alliance does need a bit more variety within their ranks. Often times, I find Alliance boring since there seems to be a focus on very few members, usually humans, and not much else, as opposed to the Horde, who have a lot of unique members all with different and interesting cultures that you see throughout gameplay.
I do think several races, including Furbolg, would fit very well on the Alliance and bring some much needed flavor to their side of the character creation screen.
Also, since it is my birthday today, Iāll share a bear celebrating their birthday also:
Iām sure you could imagine a few races becoming playable as being part of my birthday wish.
Playable Alliance Furbolgs are a bear necessity!
I agree.
The Alliance has become very one note and we donāt get to see the other races aside from humans as of the last few expansions. Hell both our main Alliance āheroesā in SLs were both human.
It gets tiring especially when we really never get any good lore for things like dwarves and gnomes or worgen. Draenei have had an ok run at times but even they are kinda behind. And night elves probably mostly just want to not be in the story anymoreā¦ its always them getting messed up it seems.
We need stories that better extoll the differences and varieties of the Alliance that there really is to bear.
Furbolg, Ethereals, Jinyu or Ankoan and Arakkoa I think would all really help. None of them are particularly human but they all have a nice Alliance feel to them.
I know I wished you a happy birthday in several threads but once again happy (belated at this point.) birthday.
Also this was an adorable video.
As it happens my birthday will be tomorrow. Woot!

Well Iāve already said this but Iāll add it again, overall Iām not particularly keen on too many new races.
I feel like story wise Blizzard has a hard time keeping up story for the races we have.
Customizations are a mess one AR got in both passes, yet some core races are still lacking, while some ARs havenāt been touched on at all.
Heritage armor is coming out in the same way customizations seem to be handled where some people are still waiting while others are full steam ahead, and still people think superfluous races are the way to go? My new rule is if it seems redundant it probably is if itās not then it probably isnāt.
That all being said, I think Furbolg donāt fall into the idea where it would seem superfluous, I like the customization route for a lot of ideas if possible but this race certainly doesnāt fit that, the only one off the top of my head that I feel the same about is Ogres both being unique on their own obviously.
Furbolg and ogres would be immensely difficult to do as customization and both would be massive boons for the Alliance and Horde respectively.
Ogres are also a very long time coming request.
Furbolg technically are as well but I feel theyāre less popular, and most who truly wanted them have moved on over the years.
I see evidence that theyāve been popular as a playable race over time simply from researching this thread, but most seem to have dropped off.
Today is my birthday and Iām probably going to make another furbolg tribe post later to celebrate, but if blizzard is watchingā¦
Furbolg as a playable race would be a swell gift.
Ursol guide you and Ursoc give you strength.
Happy birthday fen! Now go get yourself a honey flavored cake for the bear inside of you to enjoy
Happy birthday! I hope we see some new playable race announcements as part of your birthday wish to become a reality!
On the subject of eating sweets, I came across a small chain of milkshake bars called āThe Crazy Mason.ā One of the things you can order is a bear themed milkshake called āMeet Me in the Mountains.ā You can see this insane milkshake here:
A lot of their creations look impressive, but they can get near 3,000 calories. Still looks neat and I like the bear on the mason jar.
Hopefully, weāll be able to create Furbolg characters someday and be able to celebrate their birthdays too!

Playable Alliance Furbolgs are a bear necessity!
Happy birthday Fen
Today in celebration of my birthday Iām going to cover two tribes.
The Redfang and Frostpaw tribes of furbolg.
As the picture above might suggest these two tribes are probably best known as the furbolg having a war just outside and inside the only known furbolg city in the world, Grizzlemaw city built into the stump of the failed world tree Vordrassil.
While most players are only aware of the little war going on between these, at the time corrupted, tribes there is a bit more lore to be talked about in this area.
Theres a lot to talk about here before we get to the tribes themselves so lets talk about the region, its relation to the furbolg as a whole, its relation to the Jalgar and finally how it relates to the Wild Gods Ursoc and Ursol.
Grizzlemaw City is nestled in the heart of the Grizzly Hills region of Northrend. A relatively temperate zone for the continent. Its here that the Jalgar, a race that predated the furbolg came into being. They waged a war with the Dragonflayer Clan of Vrykul eventually having many of their people forced south when the Dragonflayer Clan learned to tame the Proto-drakes.
Some of these Jalgar however remained in the Grizzly Hills area and would become the furbolg there.
I cannot find any information that explains directly why only some Jalgar went south to become the furbolg in Kalimdor or if there is any difference between that group and the group of Jalgar that would become the furbolg in Northrend.
Regardless both furbolg on Kalimdor and in Northrend are considered the same race.
It is in the Grizzly Hills that the Wild Gods Ursoc and Ursol reside when they wander the world, and their primary ātemplesā are here. One within the city of Grizzlemaw for Ursol and another nestled in the hills for Ursoc. We have on two occasions, once in the Grizzly Hills and once in the Emerald Nightmare killed Ursoc in this place. Ursocās children also dwell within this region.
As their Wild Gods live here and it is the birthplace of their people the Grizzly Hills is important to furbolg in general.
The City itself is bult out of the stump of the world tree known as Vordrassil which was corrupted when its roots touched Yogg-Saronās prison. This corruption was detected and the tree was felled to protect the world from it. The night elf druids at the time thought the corruption was stopped there, but the Old Gods would spend some time making inroads from that tree into the Emerald Dream. Vordrassil would still hold corruption in its boughs until the events of Wrath of the Lich King when we would cleanse it finally.
It was the Frostpaw tribe of furbolg (this tribe is noted as being potentially a Polar furbolg tribe by the way.) that initially setup within the stump building their new city large enough for more than one tribe to inhabit. They pulled together other tribes within the Grizzly Hills and effectively made an alliance between the tribes of the region to fight against the Drakari Ice Trolls to their north. The Redfang tribe were their greatest supporters, their normal tribal grounds just to the south of Grizzlemaw City.
As the Scourge began to take action again and the Drakkari became more desperate, the furbolg of Grizzlemaw sought to bring Ursoc back into the world and used an acorn from Vordrassil to begin growing a new world tree within Grizzlemaw City. This tree was instantly corrupted by the Old Gods lingering essence and though the furbolg were successful at resurrecting their god both they and Ursoc would become corrupted in the process.
This would drive the Frostpaw and the Redfang tribes to war with one another and the other tribes of the region to scatter.
With the help of adventurers the night elves and Tur Ragepaw would cleanse both Vordrassil and Ursoc of their corruption. Sadly Ursoc was killed in the process and returned to the Dream, where a few years later we would kill him again sending him to Ardenwealde, where he would face his final death culled so that other wildseeds could be spared.
Thankfully what this means for the Frostpaw and Redfang tribes is that they are supposedly uncorrupted at this time. Ideally any furbolg tribes from Kalimdor that would ally together to make a playable faction would journey north to parlay with theses two tribes and convince them to join their new faction giving us a capital city in Grizzlemaw City.
This is a continuation of my Furbolg tribes posts the rest of which you can find here.
Ursol guide you and Ursoc give you strength.
I always sided with the Frostpaw when I did quests there. Really interesting to see that they contacted and invited other tribes to coexist there originally.
Makes me wonder if those Furbolg Tribes were part of the Alliance, if they would work with the Night Elves to study Vordrassilās remains at all. Seems like the Night Elves would have an interest in it, since they are kinda down a world tree thanks to a certain zombie elf.
Come to think of it, with some of the Furbolg Tribes displaced during BfA, it would kinda fit that they and the Night Elves would work together in finding new homes. Just a fun idea to think about.
19 days until the next expansion is announced!
Playable Alliance Furbolgs are a bear necessity!
It makes sense to me that since they were cleansed along with the remains of Vordrassil that the Frostpaw and Redfang likely have calmed and possibly returned to living together within the city.
In any playable furbolg concept I like the idea of the furbolg journeying to Grizzlemaw City and seeking a home there. I feel like the Frostpaw and Redfang may be rather willing to join alongside the Alliance on account of the night elves being involved considerably in the story of their home and old allies to boot.
Some interesting things to know.
Vordrassil means Broken Crown in Darnassian and the tree was once called Andrassil, meaning Crown of the Snow.
When we go into the nightmare and see this place we can see Andrassil is still standing tall in the Emerald Dream. It also doesnāt look terribly corrupted.
This likely means that in the current timeline and lore Andrassil still has some power and its uncorrupted growth in the physical realm may still be possible. Vordrassil may possibly be able to grow a new world tree.
