I’m still thinking they will be Sethrak and another race. Or 4 total like they did in Legion. It brought back a lot of people for BFA because people are always jazzed about new races.
I don’t think we’ll see Dracthyr/Evokers until pre-patch so 9.2.5’s rumored allied race(s) could still be Sethrak. I keep seeing more wishful thinking about it being Dark Rangers but no real compelling evidence other than something happening in Tirisfal and Calia. But I still think Dark Ranger would just be cosmetic for BE n NE and not an allied race. But we’ll see how things turn out.
I wouldn’t be against Sethrak for alliance and Darkfallen/San’layn for the horde.
There were the four allied race ID’s that were datamined near the beginning of Shadowlands. I think it was something separate from the NPC races that Blizzard puts in where playable race info is stored for easier armor placement and such. Speculation at the time was the Covenant races could be part of that, but it seems like anything is possible.
I would like to get four different new races, though that rumor that got everything right about the Dragonflight reveal specifically mentions only one allegedly forthcoming. It would be great if those four allied race ID’s were utilized for 9.2.5, but we won’t know what we’ll get or if we’ll get any at all until then. If we get just one, it’ll likely be a neutral race you can choose the faction for.
Speaking of neutral races, I’m wondering if neutral Sethrak might be the way to go with them. The storyline aligns them more with the Horde, though there is still a contact of sorts with the Alliance. Not to mention there is strong support for them on both factions, so it could be best for everyone if they go neutral. It seems like Blizzard isn’t opposed to future neutral races, given Dracthyr, so I could see it as a possibility.
Regardless, I still think it’s important to keep doing what we’re doing and support races we want playable as best as we can. After all, we eventually got to see Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag’har Orcs playable after years of support, so you never know if we’ll be lucky!
Let’s get some more reptiles on that character creation screen!
This is where I am hoping they will continue with neutral races. Also, since the factions are at a sort of peace as well.
Steve made some sus comments in the interview yesterday, that lead me to believe that we may very well see Dark Rangers in the future.
It was round about like Devs typically respond. But just sus enough.
Edit: I should clarify is that it was pitched in a manner of how we got the Night Warrior Customizations for Night Elves.
I poked around on the wowhead PTR today and no datamined models for Emeni in 9.2.5. Although, I did the same during 9.2 PTR and she didn’t turn up on Wowhead datamines then either.
I searched a few other of the Sethrak such as Vorrik, but nothing comes up.
I will be REALLY surprised if we get Sethrak as an AR in 9.2.5. But I am definitely hoping!
It’s really going to depend on how things have been going on in Azeorth I suspect. Like we know without the Helm of Domination all of the scourge have no master and have essentially been unleashed upon all of Azeroth. And the dialog between Genn and Anduin about how scarce the ranks in the armies currently are after the fourth war. It seems like both factions would need to find help from outsiders of both the alliance and horde.
Like off the top of my head the 4 that could answer that call are: Sethrak, Jinyu/Ankoan, Darkfallen, and the Man’ari.
Sethrak have that an interesting place in Zandalar that they would be new/old allies of the Zandalari, their Loa Sethrallis is still prayed to by all trolls. We see Sethrak at the coronation of Talanji so it does look like they are mending that fracture. They are also very plentiful in number as well as accustomed to fighting the undead in the deserts of Vol’dun.
The Jinyu/Ankoan have been allied with the alliance several times now. They’ve proven their abilities to fight and work well with the alliance leaders multiple times. They are also quite plentiful in numbers to bolster the alliance army size.
The San’layn/Darkfallen are in a unique position as they were used as lieutenants of the Lich King to control undead in the fields of battle and bring about his plans etc. So bringing them into the fold would help stave off lots of attacks and help the horde greatly.
The Man’ari are in a similar position to the San’layn as the Fel energies they control also have necromantic properties. The fel has been at the forefront of many of the undead uprisings. The first Death Knights created by Gul’dan were raised using fel magics. It’s also theorized that the unliving that Galakrond were also raised using fel magic. The Man’ari are leaders without Sargeras, Archimonde, and Kil’jaeden. Their only leader left from Argus is Velen. I think many of their kin would welcome them back as well as Velen himself. If they were wanting to atone for the past helping to defend their new adopted home would be a good way to do so. Similar to the San’layn they could use their fel magics to help control the spread of undead against the alliance.
Anyway, that’s my thoughts on it. 9.2.5 could bring a lot or a little. But since it’s supposed to be the stepping stone into 10.0 - Dragonflight, it would make sense that the fight against the scourge has been handled swiftly with the aid of these new allies. Hopefully Blizz agrees with my thought process and adds these allied races.
I’d say Kelfin are a top contender as a playable race as well. Especially since the Unshackled have been waiting on the shores of Durotar. We did leave them abruptly and with Queen Azshara on the loose still, I imagine they have a lot to offer the Horde and vice versa. I’m hoping something comes out of it as opposed them just disappearing without a word. I’d love to see a Ankoan/Jinyu and Kelfin pair, myself.
I do think Sethrak are still a top contender as well, given their popularity. They’re something to definitely keep an eye out for as we continue onward with expansions and patches.
Let’s get some more reptiles on that character creation screen!
Every week we get a more information about 9.2.5, I wonder how much they are holding back with only in-house testing going on. They dropped a bit of info about Calia and Tirisfals in interviews but we’ve seen nothing on PTR about any of that. So I wonder good much more is under wraps until we get closer to the patch release.
We should be getting pretty close to Mythic Hall of Fame closing soon which should signal almost our halfway point in the patch.
I hope your surgery will go smoothly and you’ll be back on your feet in no time. Please take plenty of rest afterwards. The Sethrak megathread and support for playable Sethrak in general will continue onward in the meantime.
Lets get some more reptiles on that character creation screen!
It seems like information slows down so much during season lull. 9.2.5 is on the PTR but not much has been added or changed recently. Kinda odd as we are close to the halfway point for the season.
As DF and 9.2.5 news has slowed down, we don’t really have anything new to go by at the moment, but don’t forget to continue supporting the sethrak both on the forums and in game!
i would very much like for sethrak to be playable. i did’nt like’em at first, but they grew on me over time… also, man, i wish we had a button that lets us skip to the bottom of a post, made giving this one a ‘like’ very difficult… holy heck is it long!
…also -and this is gonna sound weird- i wanna play a sethrak so i can rp that when i hug someone, i curl around their body like a snake. …it sounds like fun!
also-also, i’d preffer if the alliance got’em as a race. screw lore, all it’s done is make alliance players miserable in recent years. just give’em a GOOD race for once! they deserve a good race too, and considering they don’t have any races with a desert-theme, sethrak would be perfect to fit that role!
If they have Remnants of the Faithless fleeing persecution (rightful persecution mind) who no longer feel they made the right choices but refuse to return to the Devoted ways, come to the Alliance asking for safety in exchange for joining and assisting I could see it done.
I think ideally they’d also have the Devoted join the Horde in that case though.
