Unoffical Playable Sethrak Discussion Thread

I wouldn’t mind some either.

Minor adjustments like we get with Sethraliss.

I’m also super happy with no differences too.

I don’t really think that there is that much people who doubt the fact that alliance fan want them. In fact we all know that alliance wanting them is the only reason ever for the alliance having them as they are already so tied with the horde.

I think what most people react to is the claim that they have as much chance to join either faction which is not true. I have absolutely no problem with alliance fan asking for them just because they like them but at least they should be honest with it instead of making up some headcanon as to why they would make as much sense in the alliance as they would be in the horde. So the alliance fan are 100% right to ask for them but horde player are also 100% right to say why it would take something from the horde.

As for people wanting less option, yeah i also hate those argument. New race is want keep many people in this game, not the gameplay. So silly argument as ‘’ they should use that dev time to work on class balance’’ is a awefull one considering that Wow never had great class balance and never really had great gameplay, so i don’t see why people think that Wow need a great gameplay that much. I hate even more the ‘’ waste of a allied race’’ slot. Everyone like something different and everyone have the right to ask what they want.

Going to stress that the follow is my own personal opinion. Some things could be argued, but it is how I feel.

I very much agree. I never understood the arguments against new races. Especially the “we have enough races” statement. I don’t see why having more options in the character creation system is bad. It adds a lot to the world building, and new races in general are exciting to see announced. New races last well past the expansion they debut in also, so I consider it an investment in future storylines and world building.

Now, could some things be cut because of resources being allocated to new races? I can see it to a certain extent, though I don’t see it as bad as some people make it out to be. Sure, creating a brand new playable race from scratch is a lot of work, but it’s not like they have just one team doing everything in an expansion. Multiple teams work on different parts of an expansion, with some bouncing between multiple projects. I don’t really see stuff being cut down by a whole lot because of new races being designed.

We also got new races with a lot of content before. Pandaria even came with a new class and a new race and had a big continent with huge storylines and such. Sure, budget can also be a factor, but we were able to get decent places and event for BfA, where of the 10 races we got throughout the expansion, we had one built from the ground up and some requiring a bit more than just slightly editing existing playable race models. Not to mention comparing those expansions to WoD and Shadowlands, which didn’t offer any new races and have been fairly unpopular compared to other expansions, I don’t really know what you would do with those extra resources.

Something I mentioned before in another thread is that I’ve seen both discussions and had a discussion with someone about FFXIV and new races, in particular about possible playable Bangaa (a lizardman race in the game). The person in particular didn’t see there being new races ever being added again, citing that it took way too many resources from the game, and it was too much trouble compared to WoW to add armor and such.

Doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me. Square-Enix is suppose to be a triple A company, not an indie start up company. You really mean to tell me that they can completely rebuild a failed MMORPG into a successful game and create all sorts of creatures and wonderful sights in the game, but they can’t put armor on a Lizardman race and make them ride things? Makes me glad I’m more into WoW, which is capable of having such a variety in their playable races. ← <

New races in any MMORPG are great for a variety of reasons. They work great for marketing purposes, attract people of a niche into the game and appeals to them, and can act as a cash cow for different services (Level boost, race change, etc). At present, I don’t see Blizzard abandoning new races, especially with that new character creation screen having a lot of room on there.

And honestly? With a few more specific races becoming playable, the options for characters would be one of the most diverse compared to other MMO’s. Add in Sethrak and Saurok for reptilian races, Ogres for a big brute race, San’layn for a vampiric race, Kelfin and Ankoan/Jinyu for aquatic races, Saberon for a feline race, Arakkoa for a bird race, and many other options! It’s really exciting to think about all sorts of options the game could have. It’s a big reason I try to support the majority of races becoming playable in some fashion.

As I said, new races last a long time throughout a MMO’s lifespan. The more options you have, the better in my opinion. I hope we’ll see more races added in gradually as WoW continues on, and I hope that people get their dream race on that character creation screen. Making your character is the most important part of a MMORPG, and there are plenty of races that would love to get some more fleshing out and be something more than just mook jobbers for quests.

Let’s get some reptiles on that character creation screen! :snake: :crocodile: :turtle:

It’s because they have sliders and it would take a huge amount of time to adjust every single gear piece, as well as their team being smaller than WoW. The benefit in that case is that the story is made far better without so many conflicting people working on it. Personally, I will outright say I think WoW’s story is trash right now. I hate it, it’s why I left the game. Whereas I’m very much enjoying FFXIV.

When it comes to adding new races, though, that is the disadvantage. Personal opinion, I do like what they have now, but variety would be nice. I do keep seeing this come up, though, so I’m just explaining the phenomenon. WoW, meanwhile, can add customization/races because there is no gear to adjust along with sliders. Sliders make things take far, far, far longer per gear piece, as I’ve been told. And they have a lot of geear pieces.

I left WoW behind because of just how much they ignore the playerbase aside from those obsessed with esports, and the horrible quality of their story.

Edit: Though yes I don’t think I correctly conveyed I agree that I wish there was more diversity despite me loving some of them in FFXIV! I just figured I’d explain why it’s so annoying. There’s half-snake people in that game that are super cool but not playable too:/

As for WoW, I do think it’s honestly safe to say that Sethrak are really wanted. Seriously, I hope they listen to us here. There is so many neat ideas shared and like i keep saying, I would roll a Sethrak.

I don’t see gear as in issue for WoW. Partial helms or no helms would be fine to me Personally.

Not exactly sethrak or wow related, but the new hearthstone mini-set about the wailing caverns have some cool snake art that’s set in the warcraft universe, and is worth checking out. Sadly I can’t post pictures on the forums.

If you post the links either with spaces or with ` I can repost them for you.

For real, that shouldn’t even be disputed. The majority of races have exposed feet where boots simply don’t apply. What would be the problem having a race where most helms are invisible?

I have something to share which can be considered good news which is if you look at it the right way. Mirasol while not a blue is a high trusted, highly regarded and highly informed MVP who says she has spoke to devs before in the past. The two big things to keep in mind that she says:

  1. Allied races are planned years in advance prior to the expansion released in and similar things that require big changes like that.

Why can this be seen as good news? A lot of people here are upset that we got mechagnomes instead of sethrak. However since there was no way any lobbying effort could have stopped this from happening, I don’t think Sethrak fans should feel like they failed or weren’t listened to. Especially cause of the next part.

  1. They do take requests on the forum into consideration.

However she mentions that big changes like allied races likely wouldn’t come to fruition until future expansions. What this means is that who knows? The lobby effort here may actually result in sethrak being playable? Look what happened with high elves. Even if its not sethrak there may be a cool reptillian race added at some point? For some time I was beginning to think threads like these are waste of time, but now I know from a possibly reliable source that it does matter. This knowledge may help as a source of inspiration for people here and also help people feel more at peace since they know nothing could have been done in bfa to change the planned allied races.

I should reiterate though that she is not a blue either so I wouldn’t take this as 100% the ground rule. It does seem very likely to be true though and the source is pretty reliable.
