Unlock grobbulus!

what does that mean? lol

Certainly, and it’s different for Grobb than for non RP servers that currently have layering on.

New players coming to Classic who may only really commit to their characters during the quarantine periods are currently not able to do so on some of the very established high population servers.

As a recruitment officer in a leveling guild, my perspective of this may be somewhat unique. However, I do worry that there will be a sizeable gap, and potentially dead-zones for anyone attempting to level new characters after the locks are lifted.

This may exacerbate the difficulty of finding groups for instances and quests for those who wish to do so. Faerlina, in particular, seems to have always had a large population of levelers. That it was one of the 3 servers to be offered free transfers, earlier on during the quarantines, and has considerably smaller numbers on ironforge.pro logging raids is perhaps indicative of this.

We’ll see how things go though. Hopefully the world gets back to normal and life continues

I’m on grob currently. While I would want more people on the server, I feel it’s not worth the risk of having to layer our server. The last thing I want to do is to create a backstory of why my body gaurds got Thanos snapped off the plane of existence randomly to a bunch of thugs.

That is certainly a legit concern and one that should be a consideration for every server currently locked. In this particular case of the OP perhaps they should consider Deviate Delight as that too is a RP-PVP realm. Maybe they and their friends could help grow their characters together and that lower pop server thrive.

Perhaps. If I were in the same situation, I would likely try to find the highest population, unlocked server to level on, and work towards achieving any goals I might have, such as maxing professions, pre-BiS gear, epic mount, enchants, and any ranking goals I might be aiming for.

Then, once the locks are lifted, transfer to Grobbulus to play with my friends.

Since they are specifically interested in Grobbulus which is RP-PVP I thought that another RP-PVP realm was relevant to their possible desire for both RP and PVP. You are correct that they could level anywhere and transfer later but why not now decide to be a part of the community and assist with its growth?

Sounds win/win to me!

Grobbulus is becoming a mecca for alliance guilds leaving horde dominated pvp realms. Grobbulus was rapidly becoming too alliance dominated and Blizzard did th right thing locking the server. If anything, the server should be locked to alliance transfers. Even then, there are up to hour queues during peak hours. The realm doesn’t need mass transfers of guilds anymore.

Deviate Delight is fine as it is. We don’t need help to “thrive.” If people want to come and participate in the community we are happy to have them, but I’m wary of the hordes of people who don’t belong ruining our server like they ruined grob.

OP says they are a role player.
DD is a lower pop server and if you like that I’m glad but just trying to offer solutions. I used the terms “thrive” and “growth” in the sense of their character’s stories as well as the realm’s RP scene.

PS Grob is not ruined.

I don’t think they should unlock grob. I have some horde characters there, and the queues are around 20 mins at peak times, which I think is about as high as they should be allowed to go before you start running into problems.

However, I dislike people claiming there’s more rules for RP servers than there really are. I’ve played on RP servers since WotLK with only a dabbling interest in RP, because the players in general tend to be more friendly, awesome people than general servers. I’ve RP’d a couple of times, but found it wasn’t for me.

The rules include naming conventions (which I am happy to abide by) and protections for RP players (ruining RP on purpose is not tolerated). I genuinely enjoy stumbling into RP events even if I don’t enjoy RPing myself, because it makes the server feel more rich and alive.

You don’t need to RP to enjoy and be welcome in an RP server. You need to respect others who are RPing, which includes naming restrictions, but anyone claiming you must RP to be on a RP server is just plain wrong at best, and being an elitist RP mafia jerk at worst.

Normally, I would agree with you, but when we are talking about servers being stuffed to the point of queuing and locks, priority to being on a specific ruleset server should go to those who are going to utilize that server type. Afterall, if you just want a PVP server, there are tons of those available. If you want an RP-PVP server, there are only two. If you want an RP-PVE server, there is only one. RP players simply don’t have the option to switch. They should get first crack at the RP servers.

Sounds like the issue then is they need to make more RP servers.

One RP-PVP server is locked and the other is medium pop. The sole RP-PVE server is medium pop.

Not necessary at this time to create more. People need to be willing to acknowledge that medium pop does not mean ZOMG DED SERVER.

Perhaps it is better for your server and mine that many people think that

Reroll elsewhere? True friends will carry you through SM and BWL.

Its not like TBC comes out tomorrow morning.

Why?
I’m not a gatekeeper. I’m not going to prohibit or discourage people from exercising choice.

This avatar was created on Bloodsail Buccaneers because I play Horde on a PVP server and thought a couple of guildies wanted to play Alliance alts (Yes we all role play). They decided they didn’t but I like the dorf girls -they gotta have the twirly braids tho.

In that case, I think the current system (locking a realm when it’s full) is sufficient.

I’m going to continue to play on RP realms.

No one’s playing gatekeeper. People are free to transfer to either server if they want to, many of my friends and guildmates are transfers, I’m not against that. Transfers have replaced those who have left or quit and maintained a healthy size. I like the smaller size of DD and I’m sure many on BB, which is similarly sized, do too. If tons of people start coming, there’s nowhere to go. I’m not trying to prevent anyone from coming. Just saying it’s fine if people think medium sized = dead. Maybe it is to them. They can go elsewhere.

Yes. Role playing communities can benefit from transfers and “new blood”.

lol must refrain from commenting on the unintended double entendre

Which is kinda like trying to
