It was critical to the story of Mists.
It introduced and actually foreshadowed the events of Legion.
It fleshed Wrathion out as something beyond ‘Oh, I’m just smug and think I’m right about everything all the time.’
It gave a lot of NPCs more depth.

What’s the hypocrisy? I never told people not to equip it while they could and I advocated Blizz remove it from people who didn’t earn it. I’m also not having a melty-D now that it’s gone, which is what I wanted.
