Unholy is basically ready

Going through the proposed Changes to unholy and not rushing head first into the topic angry has basically made me realize that Unholy in its current proposed changes needs 3-4 talents changed and its a Ranged Caster that could use an int based staff/trinkets.

Outbreak in its current form is not what is use to be, it just applies dots, One single Target, one self spreading. This can be done with scourge Strike.

Currently Scourge Strike spreads the plague and makes plagues Erupt. This is alot to put on one skill, but you could easily make it so Scourge Strike is a spamable that applies both Dread Plague(main target) and Virulent Plague(able to be spread and erupts , then turn Putrefy into a 15second CD spreader aswell as detonation (even if its a talent)

The only reason to currently be in melee range is for the Auto attack Runic Generation, So why not just bake that into Unholy and make it ranged? What i would actually propose here is Superstrain just 100% gives you 4runic power every time Dread Plague deals damage, atm its only a chance.

One of the only other problems i can see is Ranged interrupts, which you could just replace Outbreaks talent point with a 15-20yard increase(makes ranged interrupt 30-35yards) but 5 second CD increase (makes it 20seconds)

Not only would it make the class feel unique and special, But if there is no plans for a necromancer (in unholys current form i dont see a reason outside of necrotic healing, which could be done with a new spec tree for DK) you could have the ghoul army, Magic plate Disease caster, feeling like it actually does something Unique.

And dont get me wrong, i think it should strictly be Staff for int stats. Currently there is a million classes that have a million choices on weapons. Staff Drops in raids are basically dead loot for anyone that can use an offhand (all of them) and you want a crafted 1handed/offhand because of vault options. Sure, people roll on those items just because they dont have anything better but if it shows up in their vault vs a 1handed or offhand, the 1handed or offhand is usually taken.

You have proven it can be done with Devourer being Int Based but both Vengence and Havoc being Agi based.

Wait Devourer DH is gonnabe INT Based? WTF? Didn’t they already realize from Shaman this wasn’t exactly favourable?
Also dayum at this point Devourer DH should be able to wield a polearm. Lemme have the damn scythe transmogs.

Yes! I say go all the way and fully embrace the necromancer fantasy. Let me be a plate wearing Kel Thuzad as Unholy, summoning the scourge and spreading blight.

every ability is 30 yards or more… The only “melee” you do is auto attack.

I completely agree that DH should get scythe 2handed int (make it agi aswell for those feral and survivals. But if DH gets 2handed Scythe, Unholy ranged would also get 2handed int Scythe along with Warlock.

It’s hybrid. But they wouldn’t make DKs use staff because the runeblades are part of the fantasy.

So i ask you this, if Necromancer comes out, do you expect it to have zombies?

If Survival has taught us anything, Making something Hybrid from its original form only means in 8years it will be purely ranged like Survival went from Ranged to Melee strictly between Legion-Midnight.

It is better to just swallow the problem now and make it ranged if its going ranged, or reduce it back to melee range if its going melee. But i can tell you, aslong as this exists as a ranged spec, necromancer will not be a thing, which is one of the highest requested classes of all time. Hell, if they do necro, strip all pets from Unholy, then what does it have?

this conversational topic between you and i is moot, you are dedicated to a dead class concept that Blizzard is actively changing as we speak.

Going forward if i was you i would think about why they are changing it instead of just saying “ZUG ZUG, SWORD GOOD” It doesnt really shine well on the responses you have given.

there is 1 skill that is melee ranged, can you name it? everything else is 30+ yards.

Festering Strike, and it’s a critical component of your rotation.

very good job, now tell me, what is keeping that in being a melee ability if everything else is basically a ranged caster ability atm (before my proposed changes)

What’s keeping anything being anything? FeS is a melee ability because they want this to be a melee class. You can Scourge Strike from range, but you’ll be losing out on a LOT of damage if you try to just stay out at range all the time.

Survival, Survival in Classic > WoD was a ranged class, in legion they rewrote the entire class to be Melee based, over the course of about 10 years it slowly lost its ranged abilities and in Midnight is now it is essentially a pure Melee build since all of its frontal damage is from raptor strike and its interactions with your pets. Grenade is just a filler, tarpit trap is your aoe (every class has one) and boomstick is your grenade/raptor strike generator.

During the course of its time Survival went from one of the most loved classes in Classic> WoD to hated strongly in Legion to slowly getting better in Shadowlands/DF and getting a full rework in Midnight into its current form.

If they do not address the problem of it being a melee or a caster now, Unholy will slowly either fold back into Melee or fold into Ranged to cover the lack of Necromacner in Last titan (we all know itll be tinkerer).

So i ask you, do you care that much about your spec that you want to see it burn if you dont get your way, or are you willing to take your new 4button rotation (thats literally what it is btw down from 12) to have it hated for 4+years and then just become what you despise any way. OR are you willing to actually work with the team and follow what is a clear path and direction they are taking with the spec you deem “MELEE” when it can melee once and walk out for 20-30 seconds and still do full rotation.

There is really only one correct choice

I agree that DKs should be able to use staves, but not to be a caster. Any class that can use polearms should be able to use staves, because they’re a melee weapon.
