Unholy Animations in Midnight ┃ Feedback

As of now there seems to be a lack of animations and visual feedback for unholy dk on the alpha which is concerning…

Now that we’re losing wounds etc. (which fwiw had purple explosions when burst), there appears to be a lack of visuals in general that I’m going to outline in this post.

  • Since our diseases are now the things we “burst / pop” with our scourge strike, where’s the animation for that? I don’t see any.
Additionally, it seems we’re going to be a dot spec that doesn’t even have a dot animation on target, which is quite a shame cause even blood dk’s blood plague has one.
  • Besides the above, I also find the new Putrefy skill to have a super small and weak animation !!
It needs to look way more visually impactful as our new mini cd
  • Lastly, I would also appreciate some updates on Death Coil and Festering Strike.
Death Coil still uses the wotlk appearance which looks old and lacks impact oomph.
And Festering Strike could also use a little extra something.

I haven’t mentioned Festering Scythe because apparently it got a new animation in the last alpha build, so I commend the devs for that

paladin is the big flashy class, DK is always more subtle.

I’m not asking for a light show… I’m asking for the bare minimum, any perceivable animation by the human eye.

If you read the first bullet point of my post you’ll realize that we’re actually mostly losing visuals in midnight, not gaining !

And what’s the excuse for keeping a 2008 animation in coil? Every other spec in the game got updates from spells of that era (chaos bolt etc.)

sounds like a plus, if they are gutting addons it will make unholy a stealthly class in pvp, people won’t be able to see what you are doing to them.

also coil was already updated at some point iirc, the new one is more animated, the old one looked like a fuzzball.

Its not the same. It was updated. Its just been brought into the modern game without changing the overall look so people think it hasnt been touched. Its not really a good thing to drastically change the appearance of an ability on average. Incinerate was changed a lot and it basically ruined Lock for many.

And they didnt give the corpse explosion animation to putrefy? That would be a no brainer type of animation just bring it into 2025 if they didnt.

There is a bit of animation when they tick, but it’s hard to see in combat. Warlock DoTs are way more visible though so they should definitely revisit UH’s plagues. An animation for Scourging would definitely be nice too.

Based on more recent videos, I think they did buff it a bit (the green line is more prominent) but it’s still lacking the emphasis that a 30s CD should have IMO.

I like the old school DC tbh, that and Death Grip are the 2 old school animations that I still enjoy. Considering what they did to Warlock’s Shadowbolt, I’m a bit weary of asking for changes.

If they do look at it though, I’d only want them to increase the resolution and maybe increase the particle density of the necrotic energies.

The new animation is relatively better…but still kinda sucks…
It’s just a purple swoosh but no actual scythe animation. They just have to give us a purple Exterminate or old school Frostscythe, not sure why they keep dropping the ball on this.

It went from a badass purple skull… :skull:

… TO A FREAKING PURPLE GOO LOOKING WHIP AS A PROJECTILE.

yeah that was weird. personally i like old chaos bolt animation too the dragon head. THEY REALLY need to bring back glyphs and have oldschool animations.
id love to see glyphs for those things + old school dark transformation and a few other things.

And incinerate went from a wave of fire to a lit candle. Soul fire went from a big bolt to Demon Bolt which was lacking, then they gave it to Destro and it just looks like a beach ball being lobbed.

Change for the sake of change is just stupid. They could have just enhanced the look of what was already good.
