Underpin is the worst designed "challenge" and I hope they learned their lesson

Your profile says you don’t.

I said above: terrain. If it stops short, it means you kicked it into a hill. The arena isn’t flat.

Blizzard seems utterly incapable of making any challenging solo content that isn’t just a complete RNG fest.

Your failure to understand how to do the encounter does not make it an RNG fest.

What’s the ilvl suggestion for it because I struggled to do enough damage to break his shield on my Prot Warrior and had difficulty with the bombs because I admittedly have a slower reaction time under pressure to aim n kick the bombs reasonably and avoid the hazards of their fireballs and the Boss’s antics

Has there ever been a hard game where RNG wasn’t a factor?

LOL. Have you played anything but WoW?

Uh yeah I have. I question the people who complain about RNG have they played anything outside of WoW.

You’re seriously not gonna tell me a game like Contra, Castlevania, or Battletoads didn’t have RNG lmao. Even Elden Ring got criticized heavily for its boss encounters.

650 should be doable. Less might require more effort, more gear should be a little easier.

I preferred underpin over zekvir and I’ve killed underpin hard mode twice

I didn’t mind Underpins fight so much. Zekvir was much harder for me to defeat due to bad overlapping moments between his spells and wherever I was on the map lol. Zekvir took more attempts overall by a wide margin to get that one kill in for me.

Underpin was less rng (although an add could spawn in a weird spot still) but it was determined more about where you were standing and not on luck.

Also it was very much more forgiving on mistakes or leaving add up. You couldn’t make a mistake on Zekvir.

That’s interesting, I cleared Zekvir 5 times on my Rogue but didn’t clear UP again after getting ??.

I like both but for different reasons depending on the spec.

I beat Underpin ?? earlier today after about ~50 tries. I know it’s not as impressive as doing it early in the season, with corruptions and now the belt, but I did eventually find a rhythm for it. This was very challenging but ultimately rewarding as a Destruction Warlock.

This fight is hard, no doubt, so I hope this helps someone:

Kite counterclockwise around the arena, because the terrain on the right side is uneven and bombs get caught on it before reaching the Cronies–it’s better to deal with that in the early phases of the fight.

As a caster, pay attention to how long it takes between when an AOE marker appears vs when the attack hits. At first, I couldn’t get consistent damage on Underpin because I was trying to move as soon as I saw the AOE marker, but most of them are delayed enough that you can still damage the boss. The Crony AOEs in particular take several seconds to go off, so you don’t have to move right as they show up. Casters have to play a dangerous game, because everything but the Crony attacks were a one shot. The majority of my deaths were from getting clipped by flamethrower.

The Cronies are not meant to be killed 100% of the time, and there will come a point when they are firing on you from far away. After Underpin reaches about 1/2-1/3 HP, kill some if you get a good opportunity for it, but focus on dodging and hitting the boss. Don’t panic when a ton of AOE markers are present at once, because there is time to get away from them.

Bring a set of Bloodlust drums if you don’t have lust naturally. This made a big difference for me on my successful kill.

As Destruction, the Voidwalker made this harder so don’t use it. I found Hellcaller to be far more useful than Diabolist. The haste from Malevolence was very useful for the shield, and because Underpin casts his shield every one minute, you can watch Malevolence’s cooldown and predict his next shield phase 100% of the time. I played Destro because I’m most comfortable with it, but I think the fight would have been a lot more manageable as Affliction or any other class that has more mobility/fewer hard casts. I had to rely on Burning Rush.

I used Healer Brann with Pylon Factory + Loot Radar. Bioprint curio only scales with attack power, so arguably the best curio for Underpin is useless for a caster.

I did most of my zekvir attempts as brew which was OK but not ideal. Ended up killing it within a few pulls of changing to WW after they got a buff. Still didn’t enjoy the fight, maybe 10-20 pulls.

I did underpin as brew (main spec) in 4 pulls and all my wipes were just learning different mechanics. It’s definitely easier only having 2 bombs but I know I’d be fine if it were 3, it might just have taken a few more goes.

1st wipe - I learned people weren’t kidding and interact key (couldn’t target bombs under boss)
2nd or 3rd was realising the flame thrower is actually crazy long range and the other wipe I forget what it was, but it was equally silly.

Then my friend asked if bioprinter was bugged so I went and killed him again in one shot lol

Underpin?? i think should be good for anyone now. It was a challenge at the start of the season.

Holy here, love not being able to kick his healing ability because of stupid developers. Took me way less attempts as Shadow.

At least for UP as Holy, it was nice I could do the fight without being mechanically locked, makes a world of difference.

Alright so chalk up an uneven arena blocking bombs as a factor of poor design?

Idk what you want people to say. The bomb mechanic is garbage whether it is a result of bugs or terrain flaws. Cope?

Regardless the fight is behind me and I never have to touch it again. So W for me I guess.

Your explanation doesn’t make a lot of sense because these “hills” (literally just slight bumps) are across the entire arena, all over the place, and would be blocking many more bombs if that were the case.

No? Lmao that was intentional. Just because you couldn’t figure it out doesn’t make it poor design.

An actual pothole blocking the bombs was intentional?

You are officially ridiculous.

Allow me to give you my clown costume. It’s fitting.

kicks bomb from 10 feet away

bomb is blocked by pothole and just falls out of the air to feet of add despite being 10 feet in the air

This guy:

“That’s intentional.”

S1 had a cramped room with a roof. S2 seems in answer to those complaints with no roof and more room.

I can only imagine s3 will have no floor in response to the feedback. Flying combat is back on the menu, boys!

Wondering will the two gear from raid will be a requirement for the cloak. :joy:

You can get mad at not figuring it out all you want. The environment was part of the encounter.
