Originally they wanted to make a plague to kill living and scourge. Not the ideals of paladins. In story they were at war with the scarlet crusade that had paladins in their ranks. The case could be made that they learned to be Scarlet like paladins from books or whatever but true paladins seems like a stretch.
Maybe it is. But this one from the following Ask CDev interview isnāt:
When undead use or are healed by the Holy Light, does it cause them any actual damage or harm, or does it only cause them pain (in addition to the intended effects of the spell)?
Channeling the Light in any way, or receiving healing from the Light, only causes pain. Forsaken priests do not disintegrate or explode from channeling the Light for an extended period of timeā¦ though they may wish they would.
Youāre conflating two different things. What weāve been talking about are the immediate effects of Light exposure on undead. The longterm effects are something else that no one has denied, but not what weāve been talking about, and not something inherently unmanageable.
My Forsaken holy priestess cut out her own tongue to keep from tasting the rot in her mouth, had censers built into her shoulderguards to mask the smell of her decay, and regularly bathes in pesticide to kill any carrion bugs she would otherwise feel burrowing into her.
Your headcanon doesnāt make the change that the Holy Light is nothing more than yellow colored Fire magic that sometimes heals any less bland.
The fact is that if the Holy Light can do that to your character, enough exposure to the Light should make your character living again. Because if itās healing you, instead of destroying you, that is the logical conclusion. Itās a BAD RETCON.
Paladin undead are a very rare exception to the rule of undead being basically destroyed by the light.
They exist infused by the light, constantly feeling like they are being torn and burned apart, and in nearly all cases will go absolutely mad because of it.
While some race and class combos can logically make sense, such as zandalari warlocks who have existed under the name Demoniacs for a long time, and undead paladin has a far more anti synergistic quality to themself making it an extremely rare occurrence, and even rarer that they are not driven insane, making it extremely unlikely to ever be added as a common combination that Joe forsaken waking up out of a crypt could simply be.
No, OP. Just no.
Agreed. Paladins should only be human and undead. Everything else is stupid. I have a light forged paladin. (._.)
Any living race can be a paladin as long as their heart and mind is pure (aka lawful good). Even the scarlet crusade, while mostly an enemy to players, is convinced of their goodness and their right to destroy the undead plague.
By that logic Forsaken shouldnāt be able to receive healing from holy spells or more extreme they should take damage.
Undead Paladins will come when the light based expansion comes. There will be a case where Paladins rejected the light because they didnāt agree with their methods etc etc
Not remotely.
Itās the difference between undergoing painful emergency medical treatments and existing in perpetual crippling chronic pain.
One you can grit your teeth and bare, perform under, and have a life outside of. Itās relatively quick and passes. Moreover, itās separate from you. You donāt need holy healing to be an Undead warrior. Not to train as one, function as one, or grow more skilled as one. Yes, it sucks for you when youāve a holy priest as a healer, but your existence isnāt defined by that. You can get over it.
The other? You can beg for someone to put you out of your misery, and thatās about it.
Paladins are all holy energies, all the time, always and forever. In this instance, the Light isnāt just healing a wound, itās running through their very being constantly. Having a wound cauterized sucks, sure, but itās nothing compared to being coated in napalm. Also the more powerful the paladin, the more holy energies, the more the searing perpetual agony. Growing as a paladin would only make things worse.
āPaladinā just isnāt a workable career path for the undead.
Fine, but Night Elves get them as well to balance the scale.
Cons: Completely conflicts with the lore for the raceā¦
So yeah no.
Some people said the same with void elf paladinsā¦
It wonāt but I still want it. Not a fan of having to choose between a poncy belf and an awkward tauren.
Cons - Flies in the face of lore hard. Basically divide by 0 logic
It doesnāt conflict with the lore at all.
Idk, that 25% reduced healing pretty much ensures there will be no undead paladin healers that arenāt trolling.
Priest is okay tho.
Forsaken priests in lore are Shadow Priests.
Itās not impossible for Forsaken to use the Light. They can do it. But the bulk of them choose not to because of the negative side effects. Getting touched by the light burns them, an attempt to heal an undead with the light is like a human having a wound cauterized by fire. Itās extremely painful.
On top of that the Light also reawakens the dulled or dead senses that the Forsaken used to have in life. Their sense of smell, touch and taste. So they start to taste the rot in their mouths, they start to feel the insects eating away at their decomposing flesh, they start to smell the decay. Itās overall an extremely unsettling and horrible experience.
So most choose to avoid the light entirely and stick to shadow magic, which by comparison has no harmful side effects as the whispers of the void do not affect undead beings.
My holy priest uses dark enegy to heal, not sure what you are talking about.
Same as undead paladins? You said most, not all.
