Unarmored Mounts Megathread 2.0

So everything we had during this time period in the original days, having the opportunity to obtain unarmored mounts, is somehow OK to leave out in Classic?

Ah the lawls I get from those who were never around during those original times

What I find even more funny is how these ā€œRetailā€ players try and come up with reasons against Classic based on their badly broken economy. LOL

You would be very hard pressed to have multiple 1000ā€™s of gold within the first 6 months of Classic launching to even think about buying an extra mount.

What some players did, was grind the rep and other stuff to lower the cost from 1000 gold, down to 800 gold, and then offer to buy those specific mounts for other players at the discounted price to help them save a some coin.

I do not recall ever seeing unarmored mounts selling on the AH, as frankly back in those days no one even thought about doing that. This is nothing like your broken ā€œRetailā€ resell bargain bins. :man_facepalming::woman_facepalming:

Maybe you shoukd try telling that to those proponents of unarmored mounts that seem to insist it was common for those mounts to be sold on the AH or directly from player to player.

You canā€™t have it both ways. Either people didnā€™t have the multiple thousands of gold to buy mutiple unarmored mounts and they were very rarely, if ever, availble to be purchased second hand after patch 1.4, or they were commonly sold on the secondary market after patch 1.4.

Despite your attempts to imply otherwise, I started playing 23 NOV 2004, played all through vanilla, TBC and WotLK and up until BFA was released was rarely unsubbed.

This is not ad hominem. The poster gave a legitimate guess as to why they opposed the mounts, and in no way attacked their credibility or brought up anything that would be considered off topic to the discussion.

In fact the argument Dimitra brought up is legitimate in my opinion. Iā€™m sure there are many vanilla players who would rather not have the mounts in classic purely to keep the unarmored mounts a one time deal. So I donā€™t see how you could interpret that as ad hominemā€¦

Ok.

Then I will ā€œguessā€ that many people want those unarmored mounts as a first step toward obtaining them in retail.

Step 1: Obtain unarmored mount in Classic.

Step 2: Pester Blizzard unceasingly to allow mounts obtained in Classic to carry over to retail collection.

Before you say that Blizzard already stated there would be no carry over between the games, they also already stated that unarmored mounts would not be available in Classic, yet here we are.

People unceasingly pestering Blizzard for something they already said they would not do.

That is a legitimate guess as to why people wantbthe unarmored mounts, does not attack their credibility and is not off topic, so I guess that is not ad hominem, either.

Youā€™re right. It isnā€™t ad hominem.

What youā€™re describing is a strawman argument. Dimitra stated that the poster likely didnā€™t want them in because of wanting to preserve the reward they gained in Vanilla, however the poster never stated that was the reason specifically.

Because you and I do not know whether that is true or not, Dimitras statement would be considered a strawman, not ad hominem. These are two completely different logical fallacies.

Ad hominem involves attacking someoneā€™s credibility or personal qualities, whereas a strawman is misrepresenting someoneā€™s position in order to make it easier to break down.

Since I mentioned no specific person, obviously I am not misrepresenting any specific personā€™s position.

No strawman here.

You misunderstand. I am saying Dimitraā€™s response was the strawman. However in your example, if you used that reasoning towards someone who didnā€™t explicitly say that was their position it would also be a strawman.

Iā€™m not sure any of us insisted it was common, though I certainly mentioned that it happened. I think I saw maybe 2 for sale, one of which was on the AH for, well, nearly a year?

It wasnā€™t because people didnā€™t know they would be replacing them back in the day. Plus, who is gonna sit down and farm 1000g over and over? Maybe a few brave souls, but the vast majority of players buy 1-2 mounts and leave it at that.

Yeah I donā€™t remember if we knew armored mounts were coming or not. Was it just a surprise on patch day or did we get forewarning? A few people just happened to have the mounts on hand already, or quickly bought them before the change? I donā€™t know.

In the beta and stress tests, mounts were 1000.

Thatā€™s a good guess, but itā€™s not based on anything.

Apples and oranges. One is asking for something that never existed and Blizzard said they would not do (transferring between games) and the other is asking for something that did exist, and even existed in the currently implemented mount pricing scheme, for Vanilla.

The argument youā€™re making is further weakened by the fact that if you simply want an unarmored mount in Retail, many exist in other forms even though these specific unarmored mounts are no longer attainable. A general desire for a retail mount does not seem to be the motivation, and as someone who wants these unarmored mounts in Classic, I can speak for myself and say that it is not my motivation. I intend to never play retail again. I have no interest in it since it is a casual mobile-style game.

Just a reminder about the AMA tomorrow on reddit.

We were told around a week or two in advance. Something along those lines. I remember having to hustle to make it in time.

Yes, tomorrow at 10am Pacific time, on R/ClassicWow, right? Iā€™ve never done an AMA myself. Do they just open up a thread soon and we comment our questions?

Yeah. I believe so. Never done one myself, but Iā€™ve seen threads so it must be like that. If enough people ask about the unarmored mounts we have good chance for them to answer us.
