If you want to make valid points about why you don’t like him on a personal level that’s fair. It’s not the same when your point is to complain about him being rich and not being good at boxing for x terrible reason.
Because he didn’t start as a child? He’s been basically in a permanent training camp since taking up boxing and did a full camp with Mosley in big bear. If he has the respect of ATG boxers and combat sports athletes I don’t think your or OPs opinion on his boxing career is valid to any extent.
This is far different than OPs comments, if you want to insist he sucks at boxing than using the point that he’s entitled and rich is not logical in any sense. Both Bourland and August are in their mid 30s as is many other fighters still in their late prime in combat sports. That’s your first terrible take second one they had ring rust okay they are still licensed professional boxers with winning records that Jake who’s been training for 6 years defeated. I don’t care for him on a personal level as I said above but I respect the hard work he’s put in the past 6 years
I will say, from the outside looking in, the only time i see boxing pop up as a big event are these meme matchups, and ive been following UFC for quite a while, so im at least adjacent to it. That being said, these things do generate ridiculous amounts of attention. I suppose thats how the real heavy hitting fights felt back in the day
Fury vs Usyk sold out an arena and did over 1.5M ppv sales boxing is doing just fine and these meme fights that attract a ton of attention brought in a ton of new fans.
Netflix was the promoter they came to Paul and Tyson offering ridiculous pay days can’t fault either for taking it. The fight was nothing but a light spar regardless. Paul is noticeably not proud of it and let off Tyson instead of putting him a casket.
• L to Tom Fury
• Mike Perry? LOL
• Mike Tyson? Retired 58 years old; disgraceful.
• Rylan Bourland? Another retired fighter.
• Andre August? 1 win in 4 years; golfclap.
• Nate Robinson? LOLLLL.
• Tyron Woodley? 42 way past his prime (see the pattern yet?)
• Anderson Silva? 49 years old way past his prime.
• Ben Askren?..……… no comment
• Nate Diaz? 39 retired past prime.
• Ali? The YouTube Kid? LOL
Yeah no, absolutely disgraceful record; the pattern being he only fights way past prime or terrible fighters.
The one that was outside of that pattern (Tom Fury) he lost to.
Put him in the ring with Garcia or Usyk; won’t last a round.
You don’t have to be a fan of the sport to know up against a 58 year old athlete is a meme and only here for views
He’s still giving boxing more exposure than it has in years. Does it make me cringe sure but the fights they showcased before the main event were 100% lit af and worth the watch
Yeah ugh 98% of licensed professional boxers wouldn’t last a round against Usyk?
Bourland and August are legit pros ring rust or not they have very good records and he fought them within 6 years of picking up boxing. Please go look at any notable boxers that didn’t come from the Olympics first professional fights it’s against used car salesman with 2-70 records. Yeah Paul’s done a lot more “meme” fights than legit pro ones but compare the pay check he made fighting the meme bouts vs the professional no names, why even bother. Still doesn’t take away that he’s worked hard and is a solid boxer who could compete at the low-mid end professional ranks clearly.
From a financial point of view, why would he take a harder fight for the same pay of an easy fight? easy fights allow him to stay in the game of celebrity boxing for much longer and in return make way more money.
Jake Paul isn’t the problem. The people who put him on a pedestal are. He has his choice of retired, past their prime guys to box for high pay and low risk because of them. I’d do what he’s doing too. I also wouldn’t care about being called a fraud by pros… I’d be a multi million dollar fraud.
Can agree here, it was just cringe to see him slugging 58 year old Tyson idk .
I know Paul held back a little (obviously it was staged tbqh) & Tyson got 20 mil from it but I guess it hurts my pride for Tyson (Proxy Pride idk?) after seeing Iron Mike just demolish people as a kid with my dad.
Prime Tyson was a real treat to watch.
Silver lining is Taylor & Serrano got their much deserved publicity; those ladies had a crazy match.
I wasn’t crazy about the weird “Katie is a cheater” BS they let Serranos coach go on about for a few minutes on the mic afterwards though. Roy Jones jr gave a pretty good explanation for why it wasn’t dirty and sometimes things just happen. Just seemed petty, bias to their promoted fighter and just dumb, tbh.
Being a professional boxer by technicality and fighting people 10 to 12 years younger isnt a thing except in clown world. The kid has barely been in the game a few years and has leveraged his youtube fame to get anywhere.
If he was a kid off the street trying to make it, he would at best be a street boxer getting paid 20 dollars a fight.
I cannot believe you remotely think hes decent. He is horrible. He’s juiced out of his mind right now with a head thats grown 2 fold from “help” and has an unlimited money supply to fund him training all the time.
Comparing that to fighting someone who fought years ago and is probably working stacking boxes in costco now…its just ridiculous.
Nobody is denying he is training a lot. But so do THOUSANDS of people with significantly harder lives, grit and upbringing AND talent.
Hes there because of little kids who made him and his scumbag brother rich enough to pay to play.
I wasn’t talking about you at all. It’s completely fair to be critical of his choice of opponents. More so aimed at people who just say he sucks because he’s entitled/rich.
It’s uhh… a thing like every single boxing event put on every year? Let me call up Floyd and tell him linadrielle said he’s a clown for fighting canelo who was 13 years younger.
If they were at his same level then yes you are right as with many sports only the top of the heap are making insane money. Its pretty clear you just despise him as a person so really no reason to talk boxing.
