Maybe if Malfurion hadn’t imprisoned his Brother for 10,000 years, and let Illidan actually do things Azeroth would be a peaceful place again.

You know the difference between Maiev and Tyrande right?
When Tyrande released him, she killed a bunch of Night Elves and then he left the Night Elves to die, went to seek more power failed and ran to hide in Outland.
When Maiev released him the second time, Night Elves were dying to the legion and he was part of the defense of Azeroth and led the assault on Argus.
The Burning Legion was invading, and the High Priestess of Elune is demanding that Illidan, the sole surviving known Arcane user of the Night Elf people on that continent who not only knows the most about Demons, but is obsessed with killing them be let out to kill Demons. Forgive Tyrande for wanting to fast-forward through the whole losing an army to invasion and desperation part, and just letting their equivalent of the Doomguy out of the box.
Anyone foolish enough to get in the way of that goal deserves to die.
You may also need to brush up on the WC-3 Campaign. Illidan didn’t fail to seek more power. He succeeded, murderized a Demon Lord, and went back to join the Night Elf Defenders and Malfurion told him to get lost. That’s the only reason he wasn’t present at the battle of Mt. Hyjal, because Malfurion is the worst brother ever.
