I love druids, i first started playing them when I was 6 while playing D2. And a week after launch when i got WoW for my birthday. Anyway…
Im dissapointed there hasnt been any new druid forms since launch. Same moonkin, druid and bear form. Tree form is cool, the travel forms are just about utility.
I would have expected more forms by now, its the entire premise of druids. Not to mention it seems like druids are stuck in one form to fit their spec, it doesnt fit what a druid is.
I always wanted to see a cobra form that relyed heavily on poisons to deal damage.
Im sorry to be so vague im stuck on night shift rn and im exhausted but wanted to see other peoples opinions.
Yeah…
Right now druids fill up all roles, almost.
We have melee dps, tank, range dps and healer. To have new form or specs you need new roles.
2 new roles started with DF, mid range healer and mid range dps, AKA evoker.
I think they could create 1 or 2 new forms based on those roles. Your cobra form could be mid range dps, spitting poisons…
If you havn’t played in 10 years they have definitely added new forms to the game since then. Some of them are race specific, unfortunately, and some are gone for good (ghost cat and certain werebear colors from the Mage Tower), but they have definitely added new forms… In WoD they added the Saberon, which they did end up getting rid of:
Legion is where they added most of the forms, I suggest playing through that expac on a druid to see all of the forms. Ghosts of the Pridemother and Might of the Grizzlemaw is unavailable though (excluding the felbear if you do the revamped Mage Tower).
Battle for Azeroth they released a new moonkin form if you play Zandalari and new forms for Kul Tirans:
As far as staying in one form the whole time, that’s because Blizzard has moved away from Hybrid classes being able to do everything and generally “jack of all trade” (JOAT) classes, because to balance a JOAT you would have to make it average at everything, meaning it is good at nothing. In any raid fights when you really need to pump out heals, damage, or defensives, the JOAT would fail. If you make the JOAT good at everything, then it ends up being required.
P.S. Typed all this before I saw OP wants actual new forms with new abilities, lol. Oh well, the information is out there for anyone who needs/wants it.
Would be cool if they had forms for each playstyle you choose.
Guardian for example:
Grizzlemaw forms for the thrash/maul builds. Fandrals Scorpion form for moon bear, except instead of moonfire shooting down from above, it shoots from the tail!!
It seems you all are confusing new forms with reskins. None of these are new forms, theyre just reskins of existing forms. Moonkin, cat, travel, bear have been here since vanilla. There hadnt been a new form added since then. It would be cool if there was some more shapeshifting capabilities for druid.
Any new forms, with seperate abilities that arent just reskins Would require more specs and druid already has the most with 4 and blizz is struggling to manage that.
On top of that the base druid forms we have cover all the approved druid sectors; claw, talon, malorne, and lore. Trolls and kultiran arent cenarion druids which is why they have the fancier forms but the class needs to be consistent across all races so they got slotted into their respective roles.
Side ones like druids of the fang or flame or worgen -not race- are corrupted and so the player character (a uncorrupted hero) wouldnt have access to them.
The amount of development time to do this kind of thing isn’t feasible, no matter how fun the idea may be. They don’t even have the resources at the moment for what we already have.
They used to have it separated. One would summon your flight/mountable form, and the other would strictly be your travel form (cheetah for those who got it)
This is my first druid since those days. I really like the variety of forms we have now. I just wish we could actually control our own characters better.
