I think something like that could work with the 2H weapon streamlining.
So it would end up being rune ability that allows for the use of 2H Swords that increases weapon speed but reduce top end dmg of it, reduce stealth effectiveness but slightly increase how much dodge you get from AGI.
If we’re really considering this as something additional for rogue tanking, could add those to the Just a Flesh Wound rune.
Maybe update Main Gauche with a 2nd part to include verbiage for the 2h sword. I’d also add a part to it that while Main Gauche(and maybe even Ghostly Strike) are active, when you parry or dodge you get some extra energy. Haven’t had a chance to Rogue tank yet, but if there are energy issues, could be a way to help it out.
The top end damage would be low with fast attack speed. It wouldn’t be a big ol 3.8 attack speed weapon. It’s essentially using only specific 1 hand sword weapons that are longer but wielding it with both hands. So SS would be doing the same as a a normal dual wield. It’s basically to fit a ninja/samurai class fantasy of rogues. We are maybe getting shuriken throws in another phase too. I’m seeing it more like a sub specific/tanking rune where you utilize hemo/bleeds and of course evasiveness, stealth, mobility, parry, with some dps loss or worst case scenario, less effective stealth which doesn’t feel too ninjalike. The reason I want to see the weapon be able to “block” in a way is because a rogue tank that relies on modifiers/buffs to get 100% avoidance is very boring. Stagger is how they made monks possible, but I think there’s many things they could add to make rogue’s mitigate damage without being pure avoidance.
It’s funny that the classic community is either insanely left wing with “NO CHANGES” or insanely right wing with the dumbest suggestions for changes. I think rogues should be able to fly too.
3k ambushes were actually doable in classic, i think the record for biggest ambush, using a bunch of different world buffs, and wsg zerking was like 5 or 6 k?
I mean it doesnt really fit rogue class fantasy to be lugging around a huge clunky sword. If anything they should change the ravenholdt npcs. People are just now realizing it because no one really went there before.
I get it, no one wants to be hit by a 3 to 5k ambush. That’s not what we have been talking about here in this thread at all. It hasn’t been about making rogues over powered or having them running around with a giant 2H axe roflstomping every thing in their path.
It’s been a discussion about them utilizing a 2H sword like you would see a ninja or samurai using. A highly agile swordsman adept at swordplay. Possibly another style for rogues to tank with.
Given this style and the type of weapon in use, there are drawbacks and trade offs. Such as a reduction in the effectiveness of stealth while a 2H sword is equipped. Also a reduction in damage the sword produces with a trade off in speed. Meaning the max damage on the range of DMG is reduced while the weapon speed is increased. The DPS would still remain constant, just the ratio adjusted.
You still in no way can perform an ambush or backstab because those abilities require daggers.
As I said before , it’s more of inflicting a death by a thousand cuts type of style. There’s a reliance on parry, dodge and reposte for survival. A combination of an adjusted Main Gauche and Ghostly Strike would be your primary tools.
We had a discussion about this many years ago in the rogue forum, but most of us came to the agreement that its a bad idea because our CC is too strong when paired with the level of burst damage that would provide.
Yeah, that’s why there talk about doing something like what Seal of crusader does with the dmg stats on a 2 hander. Something that converts the slow speed and large dmg range to a fast speed, lower dmg to remove the burst. Trade the damage and burst for increased dodge effectiveness from AGI.
