That is subjective. Plenty of people would say worgen were a wasted slot.
Every allied race for the most part is just a “thing with a different thing”. Mechagnomes have unique animations and aesthetics that set them apart though.

I can’t help but feel the alliance would be crying no matter what the race was.
High elves? Crying its just a void elf with white skin.
Vykrul? Its just a KT and we dont need more humans.
Sethak? Oh cool a monster. You really get the themes of the alliance don’t you blizzard!?
Vulpera? a short furry? just exists for weirdos at goldshire. is the alliance that much of a joke to you Blizzard!?

It is statistical. Gnomes had always been the least played race, and now I can only not confirm that because realmpop is kaput.
There is a substantial cultural difference between Mag’har and green orcs, and that translates in the racials. Likewise, the Zandalari and the Darkspear are both trolls, but they have their respective shifts in architecture and culture. There is nothing of that type between normal gnomes and mechagnomes, other than the prosthetics themselves.

Does that mean that fans of those races are inconsequential and should just be ignored? No one’s saying you have to like mechagnomes, but there are a dozen other races you can turn to in this game. We’ve yet to have a robotic race in this game, so mechagnomes do in fact fill an unfilled niche. As a fan of sci-fi and a fan of various races like the Borg and Cybermen in their respective universes, let me assure you that I eagerly anticipate the arrival of mechagnomes.

Their most powerful racial is the gold they’ll be saving not transmogging: Legs / Feet / Gloves / Wrists.
The other racials were nerfed enough to be on par with everyone else.

They’re still pretty darned strong.
Pretty much Draenei literally have the same racial but better and buying a gnomish multi tool pretty much negates their retool racial

Ah wasn’t aware. I just remember something about their racials helping in combat.
Even nerfed I feel some people would try and take advantage of it
What about all those players that have been waiting for something different than a resized human? Those that love mechagnomes could have just made a gnome. Again, Shadowlands could have provided all the customization to sate the needs of the people that wanted such modifications.

Rolling a regular gnome wouldn’t get me anything that looks like this.

Velf- give ally the horde elf model
Nighborne- give horde the ally elf model
LFD- a Draenei with new cosmetics
DID- a Dwarf with new cosmetics
KulTiran- larger human
Zandalari- larger troll
Maghar- an Orc with new cosmetics
HMT- a Tauren with new cosmetics
Mechagnomes- a gnome with new cosmetics
Vulpera- not a goblin with new cosmetics.
All that said, I play both factions and I’m excited that I’ll be able to creat a vulpera shaman and rogue on Tuesday. The horde did get the first allied race that isnt racially the same as their shared model frame. To the less than .02% of that will actually main a mechagnome, I’m happy for you too.
