Two and a half weeks later and Blizzard is already back to BFA mindset

i’d like to point out i am a casuals casual and have only raided a tiny bit the entire time i’ve played.

Glad they did a Q&A we really needed it, even if it didnt deliver what one was hoping for.

I’m not expecting to change yours either.

I view it as more selfish for a couple of reasons:

One is because of the way that it is currently designed: you can’t trade unless it is of lower item level even if you want to trade. No matter how badly you want to help someone, you can’t, because the game tells you “No.” Truth be told if this changed I wouldn’t really care if they brought back ML or not.

Another is that it promotes the idea that you as an individual earned the loot yourself and that you have a “right” to it by virtue of being in the raid when the boss died, when in reality you were a cog in a machine. Yes, the boss kill could have been more difficult without you, but it did not die because of you.

You did not earn that loot, your team as a whole earned the loot. In reality you only got the loot in the first place because of everyone else, not yourself.

In my opinion the loot should go to whoever is most deserving/most in need of it. Personal loot, more often than not, doesn’t do this. Instead it promotes the selfish notion that you are entitled to loot that you yourself never technically earned.

it’s the groups loot unless you’re soloing a raid boss by yourself. you don’t realize how selfish that sentence sounded. “you aren’t entitled to others loot” no one is entitled to loot, period. it takes an entire group to down a raid boss. the gear should go to who it benefits the most not just who feels “entitled” to loot.

No; they do. They just don’t care.

i feel like guild minded players are being punished by people who play in pugs who think they deserve full BiS just for showing up. but you guys are the “selfish” ones “controlling” loot. jeezus.

That’s the problem, who decides who is most deserving. What gives anyone any right to decide that, and by what standards? This I don’t agree with at all. Sorry that you felt you deserved the drop more than me, but after all it’s a team based game, we’ll down the boss again next week.

Then stop giving them the time metrics lmao . It like you guys have no self control and keep doing exactly what they want .

The group (or group leaders) decide who is most deserving. If there is a dissenting opinion then they can find a new group because they evidently don’t fit in.

you can sim things. a cloth bracer for example will provide a 2% increase to a warlocks damage but a .02% to the mages damage. or a 3% healing boost to the holy priest. in guild groups the mage will bow out cuz his BiS is off a different boss. but the healing is fine rn so the warlock gets the bracers. they have addons that do the math for you in game.

in good guilds the healing officers or officers in general are some of the most poorly geared. because it’s not about boosting their own ilevel, it’s about downing bosses.

Since when? In a Dungeon?? When was the last time someone stole loot from you in a raid? For me that was WotLK. In real life, 2 weeks ago when my boss stole my vacation after he sent me home cuz I came in contact with someone who had Covid. See, the game is fairer and I didn’t need personal loot.

Joking aside, Master loot helps new players in a guild environment as well as gives the guild the power to reward dedicated players who have carried others and negate back luck. Ever see someone go a full tier without ever getting a weapon drop? I certainly have.

Why do they get to decide? I did just the same amount of work to down the boss. I was a necessary cog in the machine. Why do they get to decide what cog is more important than the other cog? Because they are leader? :joy: :joy:

you want to improve your own performance and are only worried about that. you don’t funnel loot to one mage because it doesn’t benefit the group as a whole. that’s why different people are given different things. you would probably take the .02% upgrade for yourself for the ilevel boost and screw over the priest and warlock though.

As much as I liked master looter…

It caused too many issues. Not worth the small benefit for high end progression guilds.

And this is it right here. I’d rather people be mad at rng than each other.

I will agree that I thought his comments on covenants were a bit dismissive, not acknowledging just how much they delayed the expansion by adding balance constraints and as a cost benefit i.e resources to develop vs enthusiasm from playerbase… were probably more trouble than they were worth.

I think mostly what makes them a hard choice is that no matter which covenant you pick, you suck at one aspect of the game… so which gameplay stream do you mind if you are subpar in?

Great choice for player to make blizz.

It’s not about what cog is necessarily more important (although what I’m about to say somewhat contradicts that), it’s about what cog will benefit the most. If someone else will benefit the group more by getting an item instead of you, they should get the item.

It’s just simple logistics. Giving the item to the person who statistically benefits the most from that item, gives you the greatest possible chance at defeating the next encounter given the options currently available and presented to you.

Blizzard employees played the game. Ion was a hardcore raider since back in Classic.

The devs had a guild with other devs and they had fights over loot. They probably partook in Barrens chat. They didn’t play on a private Dev server. They’re right here with us still. They’re not disconnected from the community because they quite literally ARE the community. They understand the game more than the majority of the community even. Hell. They even understand the community more than the community itself. It’s their job to study it.

They’re not idiots. You may not like how the development process works but that’s because of the corporate structure, don’t blame the individuals who are working behind the scenes. They LITERALLY can’t do things they want to even though they read forums like this. They have 0% power.

With that said, just because they’re powerless doesn’t mean they’re stupid.

They know what Master Looter did for the game. It worked for some guilds, but those people are a minority.

As Ion said, it created negative gameplay experiences for MORE people than it did positive. Sorry but that’s the bottom line.

They’re a company first and they want money. Since this is the most popular expansion and they’re objectively making more money they’re going to stick with this formula.

“If they gave players what they want then they’d get more money!” Players have differing opinions. There isn’t a consensus. There are always loud minorities of players who are upset about a change. That’s taught in the Game Dev science world. Don’t trust a loud angry minority to make your game for you. There are other metrics they’ll use besides “words of grief” from people on the various platforms.

Thank God they don’t listen to people whining on GD

Too bad that no longer applies in M+ where players directly roll against each other to see who gets loot… even if the rolls are hidden, that dude that died a lot and performed subpar is now walking off with the loot you earned GG.
