Trying to play alts feels hopeless

I’ve pretty much maxed out my main to the best of my ability, so naturally I’m trying to move on to a new character. The amount of stuff I have to do to get at least on par is monumental. Doesn’t really feel worth it to try.

You will get no sympathy from the blizzard apologists, as subs continue to tank, they still think it’s fine.

is your new character a similar class? try a completely different play style and it will feel a little less like a massive undertaking and more like exploring a path not taken before. try playing a warrior or rogue rather then a warlock or shaman as an alt. if thats what your already doing then dont mind me.

It sucks, but really it’s about a months worth of work. Really, it depends on your stomach for repeatable content. M+ and Arena/RBGs will give you the best echoes/effort after you get your dailies done, and they’ll get you to a decent 360-370 gear level if you can do 15s for a few weeks in a row. Get your top 4 essences then sink every echo into the xtra cloak runs to get max cloak, and you can add 5 mask vision runs to your gear pipeline. After that, you’re basically in maintenance mode. Do a few m+ every week for the cache/target spots and raid for 375-380 pieces. Once you max cloak, you can start to target corruptions.

Really, the suckiest part is the cloak resist level being capped at 2 cores per week. There’s no way to really shorten that grind and it’s awful. I actually just run less corruption because of it. I’m not parsing great, but doing the content is still very possible.

I agree with this sentiment. I am hoping for more account-wide stuff down the road!

Add 100 to all item levels when reading the previous comment <3

My main gripe about gearing an alt is that the echoes I would have got from invasions are gone while doing the cape quest are gone. I don’t mind doing the cape BS, but now I’m not getting echoes to buy my essences.

Just…don’t let us buy corruptions rather than not letting our alts without the cloak get echoes. Simple.

My main is a warrior, this is my alt

it’s never been easier … not even close.

And for the level that it looks like you’re playing at it literally takes less than one hour to surpass that after hitting 120. Within 2 weeks after hitting 120 anyone can easily get a character to a level of being able to pull their weight in heroic raiding or ~1500 rated pvp.

If it doesn’t feel worth it for you to try that minimal effort you probably didn’t even bother reading any of your thread comments though because it would be too much effort.

Can you honestly explain how? Because I have to gear up, get the right azerite traits, farm out essences, get my cloak, level it to a decent level, and hope I get the right corruption or enough echoes to buy the right one (assuming it’s even on the vendor).

I play mostly solo and am poor af in game, so have no realistic way to get any assistance either.

Honestly couldn’t agree more,

I too have had accomplished much on my main and just to re-do the whole thing (never mind gearing) its mindless with azurite, visions corruptions…anything!

I can totally relate man…

What I can tell you is this…still roll an alt, roll it casually and just immerse yourself in the uniqueness of its class and just embrace it; don’t push yourself ahead…hence how you get burnt out faster,

I am with you, and I agree, while also I can encourage you to roll on an alt for fun or find more activities to do with your main

This is honestly the biggest thing holding you back. Sadly this isn’t an expansion where you can go at it solo. You gotta make friends and run with them, or be willing to take the pug life and take longer to get anything done. They set a lot up to push you towards grouping and playing with others and a lot of the grinds are made easier or more tolerable in groups.

The cloak resist alone takes 10 weeks if its put to rank 15 today (That if you also get the 2 malefic cores for this week, or its 11 weeks to catch up…)

Its pretty bad. I wish the cape was account wide.

This^

Had the cloak been account wide, there would’ve been less of a hassle with working towards alts,

I am personally upset how the devs just cannot be bothered to resort towards this change no matter how they claim to say that they’ve worked on it to be “alt friendly”. I am not seeing it…

Well…we’ll see how Shadowlands fares with alts

Getting free carries from “friends” you make for the purpose of using them for your own ends is not actually part of the solution.

I expect to see the game moving away from the concept of catch up and toward the vanilla ideal of “Sucks to be you, loser!”

8.3 is just one big step toward that. It’s something that a lot of elite players remember fondly, right up there with raiding feeling more epic because of low player participation, and being whispered by strangers to tell them their gear is awesome.

BfA is the anti-alt expansion for sure… Its dumb.

Unfortunately it’s not by choice, I’ve gone too and from a lot of guilds and they’re all ghost towns. Plus with a hectic play schedule it’s very difficult to make friends

Check out ffxiv. They’re a lot more alt friendly.

your mistake its trying to play alts in BFA…
just wait for shadowlands, it will probably be the most alt friendly expansion i have ever seen

Its so easy though…
I’ve done it on like 6 characters now already. None of them have a rank 15 cloak but screw that…I don’t need a rank 15 cloak on all my alts.
