Trying Destruction after 11 years

so, for the past eleven years, I’ve been demo lock. I’ve loved it and will never stop. But me and my group are back at it again. We’ve got a decent Item Level, and are running tier 9 delves like nothing, we should be doing normal raids, and according to my tank, I have the Item Level for Level 5 Keystones.
We tried Cinderbrew Meadery Mythic and couldn’t make it past the second boss. Now, there’re many possible factors here, but I kept looking and I was fourth on the Damage meter. Tank was third, The Ret Pally who I’ve long given up on topping (really is their expansion) is 2, and a Destruction Warlock is number one by a vast margin.
For the past decade I’ve played Demo because it’s fun. When I think World of Warcraft, I think this character. She does good, even got through a Normal Raid for the first time last patch. She’d likely make it through the new raid too on Normal. But she’s not enough anymore for the group.
Soooo… I’m trying devastation. At the moment, via the Raider IO the highest rated warlock is… like three pages down and a destruction lock and I took his talents and have been figuring out a rotation. The Damage is extraordinary, I can dish out quite a bit and a few seconds. The only caveat here is when I noticed my health pool got an extra 1000k, and I get why. I no longer have my Wrathguard to defend me, everything is right on my face in moments. Sure, Infernal is there, and so is tiny felhunter, but infernal is 30 seconds and felhunter might as well be a battlepet unless he’s canceling someone out for a bit.
In a group setting though, I’m sure this will do superbly, in fact I actually kind of liked it and ran two tier 8 delves to test it out and learn. To be honest, In Classic, I usually favor Destruction and Affliction Talents over Demonology. Given time I could actually have a lot of fun with this, and I do plan on learning Affliction eventually. Long back in Legion I mastered each spec for Rogue, and I kinda want to do that with warlock.

And yet, I think either at the end of this patch or this expansion I won’t run with my group on this Warlock. Demonology has been my go-to for 11 years, she hasn’t changed in 11 years. I learned my talent trees, know every spell, I never used Raider IO or Icy Veins or whatever. I built her up from the ground to be a powerhouse in BFA, which is where she really peaked. But, there’s only one way to go from a peak.
I’ll still play her, I’ll just run a shaman with them or something. Shaman’s easy, took like five minutes for me to make a build on my own and top meters. But, this lock here is about Demonology Fun, Az-Garath and his Black Hand Hammer, Imploding the Imps and having Thal’kiel for company.
Since this season we’re all getting back in, I’ll run destruction or whatever is good, but after, this warlock’s done with pushing Item Level. I’ll be satisfied with a Heroic Dungeon and a Normal Raid. Let the shaman or whatever be the machine. I shouldn’t have ran my warlock with them in the first place, she means too much as she is.
Soooooo, any suggestions on Destruction? Or for later, what other classes are nice to fiddle around with? Shaman is easy, Evoker and Pyre were actually incredibly tempting to main last expansion. I don’t want to be Paladin, even though I used to run this Lock and a Paladin in BFA. I don’t want to be THAT meta-slave-like.

There are no devastation Warlocks, probably why you’re doing so bad.

LOL. OP, I understand what you are saying and what you mean. My lock is DESTRUCTION at the moment, but I always did Affliction. As of now, my lock is regulated to enchantment duties until later this season. I may start doing some delves and see what Affliction can do. From my understanding, both Aff and Destro are pretty good this season.

If you enjoyed destro then i urge you to keep at it, hell or even as demo… but here’s a tip that a buddy of mine shared with me that’s helped me clear out dozens of 11 delves rather easily as destro: Use healer Brann and stagger his potions so that you renew the buff if gives you shortly before it falls off.

It’s nearly impossible to get killed whilst doing that. Hope that helps on ur delves  oh and gotta love having our blueberry tank every now and again (those potions heal pets as well so they wont die.)
