Exactly.
If this were a true gatcha game,
the mount would have had a Blood Elf (AH) & Void Elf (mail),
instead of an Orch and a Human.

i’m seeing tons of whale running around with those mounts, so there are plenty out there
I can guarantee you that the wow developers, the people that actually work on the game itself: writers, artists, programmers etc. Don’t like this $90.00 price tag for this mount. The only ones that are over joyed by it is the company shareholders.
The definition of “whales” is wrong here. This is no Asian +$500 monthly game. “People with a regular income” will fit the bill better.
just like all whales, there are types of whales, don’t need to blow $1500 to be a whale just so you know
The Term Whale originally comes from the mobile game market. Which defines a game player that is willing to spend outrageous amounts of real world cash on digital items such as collectible in-game characters, weapons, armor, toys, costumes. etc. Usually the mobile game’s cash shop sells jewels or something similar as in game barter. Wow does this with Wow Tokens. The player buys the in-game money with real world money. Then they use that in-game money to buy in-game items.
The mobile games are rigged with pay walls that will stop player progression unless the player obtains the best armor/weapons etc with lets say Tokens so they can compete in-game and continue progressing. BUT. The mobile game will inflate their prices to such an extent that the average person can’t afford to continue playing. BUT the people that will spend the money regardless of if they can afford to or go bankrupt doing so. Are called Whales. I have seen Whales in mobile games spend thousands upon thousands of dollars.
The term in these Wow forums is used to say that people willing to spend an absurd amount of real world money for an in-game item as far as Wow is concerned because $90.00 is a lot for the average Wow player. Considering that the mounts in the Wow cash shop usually cost $25.00 or less. And are purely cosmetic. Plus there are better looking mounts that can be earned in-game through questing etc.
The comparison is being made because the Trader Brutosaur price of $90.00 Is higher than anything sold in the shop before. With the fact that it comes with a Auction House and mailbox that can be considered an in-game advantage. An advantage that the purchaser of this mount has over all the other players that can’t afford it. To some this not only boarders the perception that it could be considered pay to win. Some thing many players fear is just the tip of the iceberg to more cash shop pay to win items in the future.
I am not sure at this point what exactly Blizzards intentions really are. But that’s the gist of this thread.
Their intentions are irrelevant. It’s highly unlikely people like Ion were in favour of the new bruto if we’re being totally honest. But the guys who Bobby hired to control blizz via their accounting department are the ones actually calling the shots. The command comes from one of these faceless MBA’s to drum up revenue or face the consequences. So Ion and his team comply.
None of this is conjecture. Google it.
“Who owns Blizzard Entertainment?”
"Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard, which includes Blizzard Entertainment:
Microsoft | |
---|---|
Acquisition | Completed on October 13, 2023 |
Structure | Activision Blizzard is a subsidiary of Microsoft Gaming, along with Xbox Game Studios and ZeniMax Media |
Operation | Blizzard Entertainment will continue to operate as a separate business, publishing games developed by their studios |
Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in January 2022. The deal was delayed by legal action due to concerns that Microsoft’s gaming division would have too much of the industry, which could harm consumers and limit competitors.
Activision Blizzard is a gaming giant that includes franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Candy Crush, and Diablo."
“Who does Bobby Kotick work for?”
" Bobby Kotick is no longer employed at Activision Blizzard, as he retired on December 29, 2023 after Microsoft acquired the company. Kotick was the CEO of Activision Blizzard for 32 years, from 1991 until his retirement.
Kotick was also the founder and co-chairman of The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit organization that focuses on increasing employment for veterans. He also served on the boards of The Coca-Cola Company, Yahoo!, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Center for Early Education, and The Harvard Westlake School."
" Board memberships. Kotick is a non-executive director for The Coca-Cola Company and a board member at the Center for Early Education and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art."
Now of that is relevant here. Check out the recent expose book that got published.
Its generally much eaiser to get 120aud than 90 usd though
I mean, potato potato I guess? Not sure if what you say is true.
I found the preface for the book. This is just the first excerpt of it:
"Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future Of Blizzard Entertainment Hardcover – October 8, 2024
by Jason Schreier (Author)
A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
From a New York Times bestselling author and investigative journalist comes The Social Network for the video game industry, a riveting examination of Blizzard Entertainment’s rise and shocking downfall.
For video game fans, the name Blizzard Entertainment was once synonymous with perfection. The renowned company behind classics like Diablo and World of Warcraft was known to celebrate the joy of gaming over all else. What was once two UCLA students’ simple mission — to make games they wanted to play — launched an empire with thousands of employees, millions of fans, and billions of dollars.
But when Blizzard cancelled a buzzy project in 2013, it gave Bobby Kotick, the infamous CEO of corporate parent Activision, the excuse he needed to start cracking down on Blizzard’s proud autonomy. Activision began invading Blizzard from the inside. Glitchy products, PR disasters, mass layoffs, and a staggering lawsuit marred the company’s reputation and led to its ultimate reckoning.
Based on firsthand interviews with more than 300 current and former employees, Play Nice chronicles the creativity, frustration, beauty, and betrayal across the epic 33-year saga of Blizzard Entertainment, showing us what it really means to “bleed Blizzard blue.” Full of colorful personalities and dramatic twists, this is the story of what happens when the ruthless pursuit of profit meets artistic idealism."
PS: Ok then. I, like all the other Wow players want to believe that the Dev’s will do the right thing for us the players. Unfortunately The parent company suits have usurped the control and have embarked on a path of corporate greed. Which will probably not bode well for the Dev’s or the player base.
Stupid is as stupid does.
You do know that you can buy tokens with gold that you completely 100% farmed for in-game, and then use those tokens to put on as either 30 days gametime, or 20 bucks bnet balance, right? So you save up like a couple mil gold, buy a few tokens, and BAM! Brutosaur! And it didn’t cost you any real life money…
That has been discussed in a previous post. That only works if you already know how to farm gold in game. Otherwise if you don’t know how to do it. It will take at least 6 months to learn how to do it and farm that much gold. The mount is only available until january 6. just 3 months. So not every one will have a chance to get the mount that wants it. Unless they use their credit cards. And that’s what blizzard is counting on.
And the funny part about that is that Blizzard got paid regardless. Someone paid for the tokens. It just might not have been you. It’s a smart play on Blizzard’s part, honestly. They’ve got a near endless stream of cash by creating the problem and the solution at the same time.
Im seeing them all over the place…you looking in a cave? lol
That honestly makes sense.
We all know Ion isnt exactly likely to personally want to make this game fun with extras like this…the man still refuses to revert that pointless loot-a-rang change from years back even though it did nothing to stop a single bot or boxer. Hes more obstinate that my ex wife, and thats saying something.
Id be quick to believe the financial sorts told him to do it to bring in some quick bucks.
Lol…only ONE reason for his exaggerated reaction to us spending OUR money as we see fit…jealousy. Why is his nose up in our business in the first place? lol.
They rat themselves out just by behaving like they do. lol
lol…its like they dont even know how things work in this game. lol
some have already said in here they used their gold to do this and buy the thing…so yeah…they could just farm gold in game and get it…MUCH easier this time…over two months to do it…and yet they choose to whine and toss fits about it.
THREE DAYS time theyve lost whining in here that could have earned them a couple hundred thousand gold by now if theyd gotten serious and started working
But no, theyd rather pitch fits about it instead…
its about two months…and IF they are determined it wont take 6 months, lol.
I dont care what you all discussed in another thread. I know how much gold I make CASUALLY playing this game myself.
People literally defend this tooth and nail for Blizz lol.
They can’t even admit it would be better as an in game reward.
Justifying it through farming gold for the best mounts? That’s what the game is going to be reduced to. Farming and crafting for gold?
Thats wow?
Proffessions are supposed to be as small side game. The only reason Blizz supports it so much now is because it makes them money.
Wow 2024,
“farm gold or dont play, FTW.” “Farm or you’re poor irl.”.
Toxic isn’t even the word. This is straight up the crust on the bottom of scum bad.
