Toxic culture of WoW and no GM's or CS?

Honestly…OP isn’t wrong…there is a lot of toxic folk in the game community. I mean people will go out of their way to badmouth and insult someone because they don’t got the best gear or blame them for the BG loss when they weren’t the worse person in said BG. It…gets kinda old really… idk about that guild idea he mentioned but in my case every guild looking to recruit is only willing to look for mythic plus, PvP, and mythic raiding… and I’m not dumb enough to even dare consider applying as I want nothing to do with that stuff. Sad how it’s become hard to find a good friendly guild that helps its members and will do normal or heroic dungeons with members or help out on quests without demanding new members be capable of idk a mythic ten key or something out the gate. Oh well I suppose…I’m comfortable being casual I don’t need to dip my toes in a possibly toxic guild to enjoy the game.

So you are mad that you couldn’t insert yourself into a group of friends immediately to get all the sweet lootz you feel you deserve? A bit entitled there, sparky. Perhaps make friends with people in the guild and create a new group and not feel like they owe you because you graced them with your presence.

Only toxicity here is what you brought with you.

Never have been.

Well, I dont do organised pvp like that, so cant really speak to that one.

I’ve done a small number of dungeons this expansion (havent had time really with all the other stuff going on) and have not had this problem.

Finding a guild that suits you has been difficult since the day guilds were created. How has it gotten worse lately? Either a group of people will suit you or they won’t. There is no way to know that until you join and interact.

I have been playing WoW a long time and I don’t find that it has an unpleasant social atmosphere. I avoid people who bother me and have fun with those who don’t. Show me any gathering of a large number of human beings that won’t have at least a few bottom feeders. But I believe the view of toxocity is because the few nasty people are loud; the quiet achievers, the helpful types, the people who are fun to play with, are generally quietly going about their day ingame and not making a fuss.

Don’t give the few idiots more headlines than they deserve.

That’s because the word toxic has been watered down to the point where it means anyone who slightly annoys you.

The terms are spelled out some are vague and open to interpretation… But not by you or me

Oh, are we just making things up because we are mad?

GMs ban people for mismatched shoulder transmog instead of toxic behavior.

I agree that it’s not constructive or helpful in any way to flame and use derogatory language. As for the “toxicity” part, this is incredibly subjective. For example I don’t care about language or how hard people try to flame me, that’s nothing more than pixels in a chat box, practically speaking it does nothing at all. However, the actions of players can negatively affect my gaming experience, I find this to be far more toxic than any form of language. Actions speak louder than word, that’s how I see it.

Also an important point about “language” or any form of communication really, is that it’s a 2 way thing. Like if a kid tries to insult you by saying “you’re a big dumb dumb” you’ll probably laugh it off. That’s what I do with people only regardless of the words they use, they all sound like immature child to me and it just bounces right off as I move on to better things. You are COMPLETELY FREE to mentally block this out and never let it affect you. That’s what we did when the internet started and things were, by today’s standard, a million times more “offensive”. It was just part of the joke to name your character with all the racial slurs you could think of. Today people act like words have the power to summon demons through the floor in real life and unironically hurt people, like real hurt not just “feeling hurt”. Which of course, is objectively false, because we all have the power to ignore words, not actions. This even more true in a game that literally gives you a physical option to block people completely.

The utopia of getting rid of all form of what you subjectively find to be “toxic” is just not a realistic possibility. And even if you get rid of the current toxic behavior, more/new people will come around and take their turn being “toxic”. Or a new form of “toxic” will take place, as we have seen in history, fragile people are just selecting new words to label as toxic after the first batch stopped being used. There is no getting out of this as a whole, but you as a person can make yourself immune to this by mentally ignoring this.

You’re being very toxic rn

I am not saying it doesnt exist.

But I am now leveling up my 3rd alt 100% through dungeon spam and I havent had a single “toxicity” moment yet in these dungeons.

If you are regularly running into it…I have other questions.

Ive tanked and had tanks that literally say “i dont know where im going”.

I feel like people have 1 or 2 bad moments, and (while those moments do suck and shouldnt happen) let those 1 or 2 bad moments be the only thing they remember. Because, yes. They are notable. People remember the negative more than the positive.

This doesn’t happen.

No argument here. PvP is filled with complete demons.

Holding 4 other people hostage because of what you want to do is selfish. Don’t do that.

It’s really not, it’s filled with people who have expectations about the kinds of people they want to play with, and you’re actively trying to insert yourself into a space where you do not meet those expectations and are not being included.

This is how life works.

Everything you’ve listed in this OP is just the way online games are now. It sounds like they probably just aren’t for you anymore.

its funny that this op brought up call of duty. they probabaly think any one who actually puts effort into the game is an elitist and anyone who does worse than them is a pos.

He’s referring to some bizarre video where the guy is like “It’s rude to suck in WoW!”…

If i have to treat every new game i play like i’ve to sign up for Retail Raiding, i would be doing just that instead of actually having fun with the video game. I highly doubt everybody wants to do that.

I like guides, but only as an optional helping hand, and not a hard requirement or as a tutoral on how to start playing the game. Like imagine if you told people you were playing Elden Ring for the first time, and you get a proverbial hand in the face, trying to stop you and pointing you towards guides because somebody has the most baffling idea ever in their head, that being “sUcKiNg aT tHe GaMe Is rUdE”…

Rude to who, by the way? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

considering theres people on my server who actively tell others to end their irl lives

… yeah no. doesnt work at all tbh

He is talking about entering rated competitive play one with a queue up to an hour. No one is gonna give him a hug and say how great he is.

Please fix whatever translation software you use to make your posts.

It doesn’t work very well.

You can already report them if you find their behavior to be offensive. The issue is what you consider offensive and what is actually against the rules are frequently not the same thing.

That’s… somewhat understandable i guess, though i would still argue that guides shouldn’t be a hard requirement, but be an optional helping hand.

This one had me rolling.

This community is so deeply socially maladjusted it’s honestly sad and baffling in equal measure.

All of us appreciate when other people show us a little patience in life. Sometimes you have to be the one with the patience. We live in a society.

I agree with your post minus this part because I feel there’s too much unknown data that can sway this needle. If you, as a new guildie, make no mention of dungeons and such, it’s not on the guild to assume you’re interested… equally, it is on fault of the guild members to not mention about dungeons, however this fault ends at the point where they consistently can rely on a group of people to run dungeons… unless you try to integrate (assuming they’re open to it), then the fault only limitedly falls to those players.
I can’t disagree with the other points you make however… and a GM/CS staffer would only be able to assist in the examples involving actual toxicity and not your guild example. Due to the lack of guild loyalty, most guilds, especially small ones, are just trying to survive… “everyone” just wants to join a guild, never speak, and instantly have raid slots and mythic gear thrown at them because they exist… while in reality, most raiding guilds and M+ guilds have teams of players who get to know each other and learn the playstyles… I have a few wow-buddies that I don’t have to verbally communicate with them in dungeons… we’ve found a groove where we just “know” how the other will react. This can be achieved by any player willing to find that social network, and isn’t some unattainable niche… but it is -not- something that Jonnymcrandom can join a guild or a group and do the same thing… it just doesn’t work

Always said by the bottom players that are mad they get told to learn/gear before they join groups and waste other peoples time.

Stop blaming other people and put in the effort.
