Toxic community and griefing

Deserter for group kick is a terribly thought out mechanic and shouldn’t exist.

There’s no valid argument for it, especially knowing how the “community” operates. I would almost guarantee slower/newer tanks are getting thrown into the deserter queue more frequently than people queuing just to troll, and there’s something significantly wrong with that.

it exists b/c blizz made terrible dungeons like the Occulus and certain tanks (yours truly was one of them and I dont give a goblin’s behind what anyone thinks) would refuse to do them and asked to be kicked.

I just didnt want to waste my time in there when 90 percent of dps players couldn’t figure out how that dungeon worked and it turned what should have been a 10 minute heroic run for badges into an hour-long wipe fest.

Leveling in dungeons and especially low level ones, people shouldn’t be crying about dps being low, but there they are staring at meters instead of playing. Sorry my level 13 has like 2 spells. Welcome to wow.

This is a problem. Everyone and everything in the game is so “cutting edge”. It can’t be casually enjoyed any more. I’m afraid to do group content because of stuff like this. Stories of people getting suspended because someone complained about them. Probably the complaints were just that they weren’t high level enough players.
It’s ridiculous, and it feels like it’s set up to defend the elite bullies instead of the bullied. I hope Blizzard will address this some day

This is valid.

I’ve been playing since Crusades and I follow an established etiquette that some here don’t believe exist.

I do extend my hand of friendship to anyone who wants to run content in a chill manner without the fear of being kicked.

I’m not going to bother reading the 300+ replies from others on this thread. My opinion on this matter is to just be nice to tanks. Pulling ahead is the sign of someone who is impatient and willing to potentially corrode a new tank’s interest in the role. It really only takes that 1 terrible experience to ruin some peoples’ desire to perform non-DPS roles. It’s not worth the extra 5-10 minutes you save and brands you an :peach: hole. Stop contributing to the negative stigma of this community.

Deserter for leaving is fine, keep that mechanic in place. Deserter for being kicked is something I think needs revisited at this point.

This conversation seems to be coming up frequently enough to indicate that it’s not a one-off and newer/learning folks are getting buried in a debuff for making a mistake or not going as fast as the group likes.

If I am wrong, I’d be very interested to see Blizzard present some data on it, but I am of the opinion this is a change that just needs reverted because it doesn’t work correctly.

Oh young one, I remember the time before we had it, and I don’t want to go back to that

I wouldn’t like getting kicked and having to pay a penalty if I believed I did nothing to deserve it.
Yet it’s the best solution for a problem that needed fixing.
I haven’t seen anyone suggest anything better.

No… your just not worth my time.

As long as MicroActaBlizz continues to hide behind the smoke and mirrors of:

  1. It can’t be abused
  2. We’re giving agency to whom you group with

it won’t change. What they are doing is using the above to save money and time. If they feel there is no issue and it is not being abused, then that is that and they can move on to other things.

Let me be clear, are there people abusing it? of course, this is WoW. Are there people who deserve to be kicked? Of course, this is WoW. Commons sense tells us both of these are true but our overlords think only 1 is true… and there is the disconnect.

Yeah, it’s usually like that whenever someone questions someone else’s logic and wrongful interpretation of things.

Definitely not a young one… I am a day 1’er and I have the back pain to prove it…

There is just no good reason to have it. The frequency this comes up shows it’s being abused to grief folks and take out frustration on people learning the ropes.

The saying, “If you don’t want to deal with it, don’t pug” cuts both ways.

Then have fun living in your delusions, who am I to stop you.

non issue. move on with your life.

One time I got kicked when playing a huntard since the tank and I decided I would pull stuff for him so he had to run around less. This went well but offended one of the other DPS and the group vote-kicked me even though the tank said no. Most people just agree to vote kick without caring.

Toxicity as an example would be them attacking you whether it be calling you names, saying you’re bad, etc.
They’re not toxic for kicking you for not going at a faster pace. I respect the fact you’re a vet player but this isn’t TBC anymore. You can pull megatons of mobs and if you’re a solid tank player it’s a breeze. Take 5 mins to checkup on a guide and then have fun blasting as a tank. If not don’t be shocked if you get kicked for people not wanting to take 30 minutes to clear a 5 minute dungeon.
