The only way WoW 2.0 works is if the characters persist through the changeover.
Something like Azeroth goes nova and we all have to leave like the Draenei once did their home world.
Even then, people would erupt. You couldn’t go back and visit old places again, etc. Remember that people have gotten married in game and had funerals in game. This thing is bigger than just some random arcade affair.
It’s a scenario we don’t think about much but how old does the game get before it shuts down? Forty years old? Sixty? We have no frame of reference on how to handle it because nothing like this game ever really existed before. The technology wasn’t there.
But no, deleting characters is the last thing you do.

I’d be ok with it. In fact this is my second account; the other is perma locked by choice.
Better idea. Smash tiny servers together. Open a few fresh retail ones. Maybe controversial, but just open up all quest lines even Anh’quiraj. Still have to get everyone to work together but maybe scaled phased level appropriate
I have way too many memories here. Way too many. Funerals, weddings, people I’ve met over the years, some I still know and correspond with who still play. I’ve been with the present job I have in RL less time than I’ve been in this game, I got the call to go to work for the company I work for while I was in Molten Core in 2005. So, like I said, too many memories to let this go like that. I’m sure other people have similar stories to mine and that’s why I don’t like the idea. I can look back on much of the stuff I’ve collected and remember where I was and who I was with the day I found it or the day I won it or the day I got it. That’s the only real issue. 16 years you collect a lot of stuff.

That’s honestly just a terrible idea.
They either need to make a completely new, and completely separate MMORPG or just continue with managing and updating retail/classic.
Also starting from Classic would be awful as well, since a lot of people don’t play Classic because they’ve played through that content already.
Please, let’s not start the “private server reset” would be good for the game on the Retail forums.
Private servers have to reset, not much else to do when the entire player base is in full Naxx sets.
I would cry and cry, and never recover. 
I can’t even change the appearange of my original characters. I’m very attached to those guys and also my mounts, transmogs, etc.
If it really was WoW 2 and it was a brand new game, completely rebuilt from the ground up, then I would play. Wiping and starting over as WoW Classic wouldn’t be an option for me.
I’ve only ever taken one break since BC where I turned off my sub and it was for maybe 2-3 months, and I’ve been back full force since. I dread the end of WoW enough as it is, I would never want this game to end, this is THE game I play.
If they wiped it, I’d probably cancel the sub and never look back…maybe.

I would be gone in less than a heartbeat. You want to take away all the little pets I’ve collected over the years? Nope.

agree with many people above that taking away everyone’s progression and starting them at zero would lose a gigaton of players
you’re basically saying that wow 2, which is not certain to be a success or popular, will necessarily require deleting wow 1 and will almost entirely just recycle everything most players have already finished
I don’t know why that would have to be the case or why you think that would be popular or a good idea vs a ton of other ways to do it
