Torghast Timer

I made a simple statement of what will happen. Zero attached emotions or anything else.

Statement =/= complaining.

Thanks for clearing up what GD means.

The scoring system is trying to fix something that’s not broken, let’s be real. Both playstyles of methodical exploration and gotta go fast is already perfectly viable in the current system of Torghast, with different advantages for both. Exploration nets you more resources for an easier clear against the end boss, gotta go fast gives you a much faster and more efficient run.

If perfectly balanced, and Blizzard is notoriously poor at balancing especially in recent years, then the scoring system changes nothing. Absolutely nothing. People will continue going in and doing whatever it is that they do in Torghast. If it’s not balanced, then people will feel pushed towards the playstyle most likely to succeed, whether that’s speedrunning or killing everything.

This new scoring metric is entirely pointless beyond removing the death limit - a change that could be accomplished by… simply just removing the death limit. I mean, the death limit never had any affect on me anyway.

This bothers me not because of timers or anything, but because of how arbitrary it feels. Why, exactly, are they wasting time on a system that isn’t going to change how enjoyable Torghast is, and would more likely be unbalanced and make the system even worse?

So Blizzard admits it’s committing public and bloody seppuku? That I would like to see.

Torghast is broken though.

They’re trying to reconcile the fact that bad players feel bad about spending 30-45 minutes only to fail, with the more skilled players who are bored out of their mind of the current Layer 8 Torghast. The scoring system allows les skilled players to fail in a way that feels less punishing and gives them a consolation prize (see: how M+ works) while still maintaining challenges for more skilled players.

It is more fun though. I’ve played it. It is definitely more fun.

Or maybe they remember that often what is implemented does not closely resemble what was originally proposed, nor what was on the PTR.

And you know it will feel less punishing because Ion told you this, and Ion totally has his finger on the pulse of the casual playerbase, right?

Giving prestige awards to elites will not bring back any of the casuals who have left because they hated it.

Torghast is using the same system as M+ where you still fill your cache and still get (nerfed) loot at the end for bricking a key. And you have people who are perfectly okay just banging out their failed M+ runs. So yes, it is pretty obvious that if you run Torghast and you fail it but you still get ash even though you “lost”… yeah you will have far less upset players.

People can shrug their shoulders if they “fail the timer” or “fail to get score”. But when the game gets into their face and tells them directly “You are bad at video games”, that’s when they cry. So yes, it will be better because it is a less confrontational system. Many players are babies and have to be coddled and the new system does that without actually nerfing the difficulty for people who enjoy a challenge.

Yeah no. I think we have a point here given how people have walked out the door already.

For you.
It has nothing to do with ‘balance’.
Everything to do with it being closer to roguelike.

Finding it meaningless is fine but that’s just your subjective opinion.

I think it’s a perfectly fine addition.
And honestly, most things are arbitrary, at the end of the day, you either like it or don’t.

Please tell me what you find fun about it. Not trying to be snide or anything, I genuinely want to know, because while fun is subjective it’s entirely possible that I could be missing some key aspect

I think the final setup might be like fast=3-4 stars, through=3-4 stars, fast and through=5 stars

It’s more challenging but in a way that isn’t simply “You get one shot”. The new affixes add a dynamic challenge (and given they rotate, that means you will have to deal with different challenges each time you go in there).

While I think the spell reflect mechanic is frustrating (and also very obviously bugged/broken) it very much forces you to be aware of the enemy you’re fighting and pay attention.

I also like the score-streak mechanic. I like filling the bar up and trying to keep it red. We know that the Box of Many Things will provide upgrades to your character for keeping it red - 50/75/100% extra movement speed for one thing. And a capper upgrade that gives you a large amount of bonus damage for staying in the red as well. It’s like any scoring system - creating chains and maintaining a streak are fun.

The new affixes and such are very much so a gameplay change that could have just as easily been implemented without the scoring changes… but fair point on the score streak thing, there’s certainly been plenty of games that have been popularized by being able to achieve and maintain a high score rating. I guess that is a positive impact from the scoring system.

Disagree. Good talk.

Yeah no. :-1:

Just wait… this is the first step to introducing the Torghast Invitational where players can compete to win a paltry prize pool. More esports in an RPG isn’t really the answer.

Just watched a youtube video where a guy tested the “thorough” mode.

3 stars.

He killed literally every single thing on every single floor. He freed every single trapped soul. He helped every NPC.

3 stars.

The timer is just that… a freaking timer where if you don’t rush, you don’t get 5 stars. You don’t get 5 stars, you can’t progress on levels. You don’t progress on levels, you can’t get more fancy currencies.

race confirmed. (unless they just haven’t coded in ‘thorough’ mode…and just rolled the PTR with rat race mode… typical Ion)

Khorra, you got some Blizz on your dress.

Watched the preach video on this and lol’d so hard at the “get horrified for 3 seconds if you fall to 40% health”. Unreal.

And a -1% health every minute? No timers here! Yup, none! Just ignore the “you’ll die more easily if you take longer” debuff…not a timer at all, nope!

but but but people on the forum said, you could take your time and not run with a timer or you could choose to run with a timer…therefore there is not issue…

It’s pretty disgusting. They’re turning torghast into a solo M+. If I wanted to run M+ I’d run M+, not Torghast. Ugh.
