Just going back to where you jumped into the conversation to see where your issue was.
This is a you problem. Arcane Orb is a signature Arcane spell. You don’t have to use it, but you’re gimping yourself if you didn’t. Literally anyone playing Arcane that is doing anything higher level is taking Orb.
So this is just a “feels” issue for you, and not based in anything tangible.
Granted, Arcane is my third choice of Mage specs, as I am an OG Frost Mage (that was sadly forced to go Fire for ICC), but it’s pretty easy to see it’s the superior pick.
Even Icy Veins says:
Supernova does very low damage so is never picked for top damage. It can be picked if the extra crowd-control is needed.
I didn’t state or imply this. How did you even come to this conclusion? This isn’t a situation where we have to choose between having a ton of abilities or hardly any at all.
The current talent tree row that contains Arcane Orb has two other choices. The current tree does not force me to take it. The new tree does. I’m only asking for an alternative, not for Orb to be taken away from everyone else. Make that node a “choice node” and that lets everyone else have Orb and me have something else.
The bottom line is I have problems using Orb and it just is not a fun experience for me. Is that a “me problem” sure let’s call it that. But does that mean I shouldn’t provide feedback or that how I feel doesn’t matter just because it’s not meta? No my opinion matters as much as any other player’s opinion does.
Will I be successful in bringing some change to get what I want? Probably not, but I’m still going to make my voice heard.
Incarn also eats berserk according to the tooltip so it feels kinda mid as a talent as far as I am concerned. Like, berserk now lasts 10 extra seconds, I get a health boost and a special form on top. Rather just get angry and pop Convoke in PvE
For PvP otoh? yea Incarn looks pretty legit. especially if the refund on the CD is long enough.
why not - that seems the sensible thing to do to accommodate both groups - the try hards can use 30 spells and everyone else that isn’t them can use 5-10
Incarn is just making Berserk last twice as long and give you a health boost… but lasting twice as long is clutch on Retail because of Architect’s Aligner, Ravenous Frenzy, UFR, and Blood Frenzy.
In DF we lose Arcihtect’s Aligner, we lose Ravenous Frenzy, and we lose Blood Frenzy (BIG yikes).
That ain’t it. We zero-percent give up Gore as we’re pretty rage-starved (I made a post over on the class feedback about that) and we also definitely don’t give up Earthwarden as Earthwarden is still a massive portion our defensive profile especially when we’re popping Berserk and/or Incarn and pulling triple or quadruple pulls. Maul is also trash as we’re pretty rage-starved so we don’t have the rage to spend on anything if we want to maintain Ironfur.
Blood Frenzy is also substantially better than Soul of the Forest especially if you aren’t taking Gore (???).
We’re rage-starved so After the Wildfire is also bad.
As far as the class tree, Heart of the Wild is lit, it’s basically just 30% bonus damage for 45 seconds every 5 minutes which is a pretty big DPS boost. We always take Heart of the Wild.
Not taking Remove Corruption is super sketchy. There are some nasty Curse and Poison effects in these dungeons. Brackenhide Hollow has tons of poisons and there’s curses in Nukhod and IIRC Azure Vault last boss has a brutal curse. I don’t remember every single enemy cast but I would not give up remove corruption.
Look at Havoc DH, Frost mage, Boomkin etc all smaller bars of spells
Then you look at some like Feral Druid, Demo warlock etc and it’s just too much
Yeah, I do find Frost Mage a boring spec because it’s so simple, but it’s also hard to mess up a rotation or do bad on it.
Where as when I play some specs I have no idea what’s going on, what I am supposed to hit, when I should AOE or single target, is it worth applying DoTs or Bleeds or just doing my AOE etc it’s too confusing
Over the last 18 years, people have come and gone from the game and they possess different skill levels and preferences.
If you’ve been here forever, or are particularly skilled, perhaps you crave complexity and even more challenge.
On the other end, perhaps you haven’t had 18 years to hone your skills, and just want the game to be approachable.
Both are valid concerns. Wow needs to keep things interesting to the vets, while not making the game impossible to learn.
Honestly, I think they tend to use classes like the DH as a bandaid, and a majority of the game falls into the overly complex category.
I will likely ditch Rage of the Sleeper for Incarn, but Incarn is bugged on beta and doesn’t work properly. Rage of the Sleeper is pretty good but I feel like Incarn is still potentially really good even without UFR because the 15% haste means 15% faster tick rate on Moonfire as well as more presses of Thrash which we obviously love especially when haste values are so low early in the expansion.
The majority of mages that main arcane (I included) have been asking for arcane orb baseline just as long as mages have asked for deep freeze back.
Even if there were more you would still be an extreme minority and one talent point being wasted by someone who doesn’t want to play optimally is low on the totem pole if it’s even on it.
It’s an orb. You launch it in a direction and forget about it.
If you’re clever enough, you can blink through it as it travels away and draw the mobs into it again.
Frozen Orb is the exact same thing and it’s a great spell to have.
Supernova looks like a weak damage spell with some CC ability. There are better options, because it’s unlikely an entire group is going to need to be kicked (which a knock up would do), and you can better focus your CC (if needed) on the mobs that require it.
Not trying to offend you here, but if you are having trouble with an Orb spell, you’re not a very good Mage. It’s an easy spell, but if you’re having trouble with positioning as a Mage, you are absolutely doing it wrong.
I disagree. What you’ve said here shows that you are not very adept at being a Mage. Instead of changing the class (or a spec) to suit your style, try practicing the technique in the game that people who are much better at it than you are doing just fine with right now.
Sure, but all 3 mage specs have a similar amount of buttons in their bar.
You’re doing it wrong. I just looked at your talent build and I can see why you might not enjoy it. Your build likely hits like a wet noodle. Where you’ve opted to have fewer buttons, you’ve also funneled all of your button presses into about 3 or 4 buttons (with a few “side” buttons).
I don’t want to derail this conversation further, but when I’m seeing people complaining about “too many buttons”, but not realizing that those extra buttons (and the ability to use them effectively) are what is separating you from a higher-level player. I won’t even claim to be the best Mage in WoW, but I know well enough to follow what better players than myself have already figured out works.
And when you actually figure it out yourself (as with Necro Frost right now), the difference can be night and day.
