Im legit irritated at this point, qol for frost is garbage we go a few xpacs HARDLY being touched then it is like the janitor comes in and goes oh lets adjust this seema good hits apply and leaves. This was too much blizz we was no where near top this entire xpac and now this? Quick to nerf and take forever to fix bugs as simple as lucid dreams which is still busted by the way as a minor but that goes ignored cause the top raiders arent playing frost they play fire so who cares right? Its “good enough”
It was overperforming. Both in live and beta. It was head and shoulders above other specs. Anyone who thought frost was balanced and fine had a biased opinion.
You’d rather want this minor nerf now then getting hit harder down the road.
The class is still plenty viable and will be a top player still.
It wasn’t over performing. It had a potential to overperform, based on random, lucky string of procs, which never manifested itself in practice. On paper, the possibility existed. It was horrible class design from the get go, and it got through beta, and into live — and it will only get worse from here.
Tbh azerite shoulda gone away when corruptions did then balance, when we lose packed ice and whiteout this spec is done.
You stop that logic! People dont want to see how vastly over performing Ice Lance has been and how strong frost has been in doing in every content. The 10% nerf is not going to be as massive as people think. Especially if you consider Freezing Winds how fantastic that legendary is.
Have you NOT seen how well Frost has been doing in beta?
I was about to say…watch any streamer/YouTuber and they’ve unanimously been talking about how busted OP Frost has been on the Beta. The spec clearly required some rebalancing.
The one thing I will say is it’s stupid that Frost is the “two-target cleave spec” for mages, but that niche is only possible with a talent. It’d be like making Destruction talent into Havoc. It makes zero sense.
lol says the warlock
Have they posted numbers yet of how these changes affect the spec for overall DPS?
Subtract 10% from 50% of your overall damage.
Then, if the fight had cleave, subtract another 15% from that.
That’s just a hand-wavy description of the relative changes made to frost mages though. I’m asking about raw (either simulated or sample based) numbers. For example, does the spec still do 3k average DPS in beta, or does it put it below 2.4k DPS? It’s good to know what the overall impact is to convince people that this change was not warranted/too much.
WOWhead says changes are a 5% reduction in single target and 10% reduction in cleave and that the “sky isn’t falling.”
Icy Veins reviewer isn’t happy about the cleave reduction.
That’s just poor reporting on their part then. Shame on them. Honestly these guides I’ve been seeing have been lazy as well.
Edit: Tell you what? When SimulationCraft updates with the latest changes for beta, I’ll post some frost mage simulation results using the following gear scores (unless someone beats me to it):
gear_intellect=701
gear_haste_rating=348
gear_crit_rating=348
gear_mastery_rating=348
gear_versatility_rating=348
These numbers are based on mythic dungeon gear stats that would be used for the raid or progressing further with M+.

I mean if you were doing 3k single target before it, and 50% of that was Ice Lance - we reduce 1500 by 10% and get 1350. So 1500+1350 is 2850.
If there was cleave, 100% of the time, take your starting number and reduce it by an additional 15% of that 50%. Or just an additional 1.5x of the original number you reduced it by (so in this case it would be reduced by an additional (150 + (150x1.5)) or 375 dps reduction (from the 3000).
There is just no set amount because every fight is different. That’s why I’m saying what I’m saying.
(Forgive spelling errors, on my phone)
I think my main issue with this is that currently, the damage meters look something like Shadow, Shadow, Affliction, Arcane, Affliction, Hunters, then frost mages. Yes we’re above some specs, but the nerfs directly to frost now on live, seem absolutely unwarranted. Especially since the moment we take off our Azerite gear, we’re gonna take an additional nerf.
Obviously, this is a very early frost mage. It does seem ice lance was a bit op in damage for being an instant cast.
That’s a fine argument to have…but put the damage back in somewhere else then
I literally just leveled a mage to 50 last night, and thought to myself this seems pretty fun… My bad guys, totally mushed you…
I mean it’s still fun. It’s still a competitive spec. It might have been warranted at level 60, I don’t know. My complaint is that it’s completely baseless on live. Live is still a game where people are paying to play, and, believe it or not, still progressing.
It’s not a nerf…they are balancing, i’m not worried about it…I still do good damage
And it’s exactly the way it is on beta now…
