C. You’re looking at a PVP gearing strategy, especially in a team environment. What’s happening here is that, because of how PVP scaling works, ilvl is a major detriment, so the stat distribution, including with gems, is much more important than the absolute amount of stats on an item. In fact, in a team environment, because damage is scaled and healing is not, it can in some cases actually be an advantage to have lower gear with less stamina, even without sockets, because it increases the advantage healing throughput enjoys over damage throughput. These issues are exacerbated by the high differential value of secondary stats in PVP, where some secondaries are regularly worth more than twice as much per point as other secondaries.

The solution to that would be to fix PVP gear scaling. For example, you could replace the current ilvl damage scaling with a simple cutting of the value of all stats over a certain threshold in PVP. If the threshold were ilvl 200, for example, an ilvl 500 (200+300) item would scale down to work like the ilvl 300 (200+100) version of that item in PVP. Note that this scaling would have to apply in world content as well as in PVP since healing doesn’t differentiate between PVE damage and PVP damage; however, given how fast the current item inflation trivializes world content, that would be a good thing, not a bad thing. You could then increase the strength of mobs in world content at a more reasonable rate between patches instead of the insane differences we’re seeing now.

Also, if PVP gearing is the issue, there’s a quick fix available as well. Just make the new gems be socketable only in ilvl 400 and above gear.

I just crafted both my 410 socketed blacksmith items.

I got lucky on one and it has the perfect stats. With a +60 gem, it would be almost the equal of the unsocketed 415 I’m already wearing.

The other does not have perfect stats and is clearly inferior to the unsocketed 415 I’m wearing.

Whoever thought a +60 gem could be worth a 15 ilvl titanforge needs to have his head examined.

Still spouting inaccurate information I see, you do realize for the majority of classes their secondaries outweigh their primary stats and a 1-5% upgrade is still an upgrade, if you have a full 415+ set of gear are you saying why bother looking for that 425 item upgrade? That will still only be a 1-5% upgrade in it self, some classes gems are worth 20 ilvls, others 5+ ilvls but they still are worth it, I mean if you’re doing lfr/norm/heroic raid even if you did socket/enchant everything I’m sure when you pug your damage is still garbage but noones going to notice since theirs is too. But also if you can’t afford gems with how easy it is to make gold then I’m sure if someone pointed that out to the raid lead even in a pug you’d probably get removed if they had any sense, I know you would get booted pretty quick from a mythic raid if it was obvious that you didn’t care to do the best you could.
I would agree that sockets lost their potency but only because rng is aids, although they basically made sockets farmable with benthic gear.

I literally pointed out that you said that gemming your gear was pointless, I said you were wrong and you got all butt hurt. If gemming your gear is pointless then getting titanforged gear is pointless also, it’s still only going to be a 1-5% upgrade if you have the base ilvl of the content you’re doing already, If I had a full set of 415 gear a 425 piece won’t be game breaking/changing.

You literally don’t think before you speak and you have no clue about the information you spout to people, then get defensive when someone has a different opinion or in my case the truth when taking into account my first post. Like I said gems are worth 20 ilvls for some classes and others it’s like 5+ but if you’re broke or too cheap to gem/enchant your gear then you don’t belong in multiplayer games at least end game content, you’re not only hurting your self but the progression of those around you.

Making 25$ and hr working 60+ hrs a week, clearing mythic raid on a 6-8 hr 2 day schedule, yeah I’m struggling in life lol. Must suck sitting in lfr all day, flipping burgers irl for minimum wage.
