Could this be approached from a different angle? What if Blizz made changes to better support and legitimize below-cap minmaxing so the XPoff bracket isn’t so barren?
To me the real issue is twinking’s gray, psuedosupported status. It’s probably scaring off a lot of folks that’d otherwise be interested.
Why do YOU think that you’re entitled to low level bgs without having to compete against people who put more work in than you? Does that apply anywhere else in the game? Does Blizzard strip away all the week one BOE’s and crafted gear Method has when they walked into Mythic for the first time? No. This is an MMORPG and if people put more work into their characters they WILL have an advantage.
It only takes 1 geared twink to destroy the BG for 19 other people, a small minority of extremely powerful characters that have gear that realistically cannot be obtained by a leveller (shot of spending months and enourmas sums of gold, per bracket) shouldn’t be allowed to destroy the games for everyone else.
I’ll keep posting 30-0 twink games until twinks stop pretending it isn’t a problem, I have hundreds.
On the contrary, people comprehend exactly what’s happening; ActiBlizz is using that big sledgehammer to fix a problem again. Same stupid crap they always do. It’s removing player choice from the game, never a good thing.
However…
It seems that most of the people who think it’s a bad thing are the people with twinks, and that group of people, apparently, is not large enough to matter in ActiBlizz’s eyes. Considering that the twinks have been having their fun mostly at the expense of running roughshod over non-twinks for quite some time now, I wouldn’t be looking for too much sympathy on the matter, truth be told.
Huh, I stopped doing BG’s while leveling purely because of twinks making bgs an un-fun time. This change makes me think it might be something to get back into now.
There’s always going to be gear differences, but I don’t think it’s too much of an ask for players to expect that the games they get dropped in will be filled with characters in a position roughly similar to that of themselves. It’s nonintuitive that others would intentionally stunt their leveling to seek the best gear possible at that level when the entire game and most of its community is practically screaming “get the max level NOW”.
It’s more about what the game supports than anything else. The game’s low level gamplay story has been total crap for a long time now. Blizz refuses to properly support it. You can’t realistically expect any significant number of players to embrace a part of the game that Blizzard for most intents and purposes is allowing to rust away.
What i expect is for Blizzard to keep out of it. If Twinks are a problem for you, then don’t queue. Level up another way. That’s your choice. Blizzard stepping in and saying, Hey, these people can’t play anymore, is frankly ridiculous.
You should. I am absolutely loving it. The queue times are not an issue at all. The quality of BGs are astronomically better. No more guy with glowing weapons with a name like “Expartgamer” in a guild with a name like “Dun wurry we r pro” playing whack-a-mole in the GY while spamming emotes like /spit or /flex, bragging about how awesome he is at PVP and telling his casual teammates “git gud, scrubs” and when you ask him to do something team-wise, reply with “u ken not tell me wut 2 do.”
I’m in agreement with the consensus, this is a great change.
That’s a pretty selfish attitude considering the extent that twinks are outnumbered by non-twinks. I don’t relish in taking away anybody’s playstyle, but favoring the twinks means that everybody has to stop leveling and gear up in order to not have a horrible battleground experience. That seems pretty backwards in a game that pushes one so hard to level.
If everyone followed the line of thought in your post, low level XP-on BG queues would be identical to their corresponding XP-off queues and games would never pop. Those who are willing to put leveling on hold to PvP have already done that. You’re not going to convince anybody else to commit to such a thing without sweeping changes to the low level game.
Except no, you didn’t have to. Scroll up to the guy claiming to have hundreds of screenshots with twinks in them. Twinks didn’t stop him from playing. Blizzard is PREVENTING twinks from playing, and that is not an acceptable fix even if you believe there is a problem.
But they made the game pretty miserable for anybody who wasn’t a twink (even those with looms and level appropriate greens, aka reasonable for their level), which is almost as bad.
I think the only real fix is a much more involved thing than what either “side” proposes. Re-merging or keeping it separate are both bubble-gum-and-duct-tape jury rigs, not actual fixes, but until something better can be put into place, keeping it separate has a positive impact on a much larger number of players than re-merging would. It’s like being forced to choose between making the game better for hardcore pet battlers or for those who run M+ in any capacity; M+ players are far more numerous than the pet battlers, so of course you’d favor the M+ players.
