Isn’t this pretty much all personal preference, though? Some people have seen the tinker hero class, or the tinker leaders, and think it would be cool. Maybe they like the idea of powered suits, laser guns, turret guns, bombs, things like that. It’s something they want so they think it would be great in game. That’s about all the justification they have, though. When people disagree, bad faith tinker fans raise a stink and make them all look bad. And as long as the stink has been going on, people are tired of it. Kind of like the high elf fans, right? Even though they did eventually win, depending on who you talk to.
Game has enough classes for the next 10 years.
Class balance should be the highest priority, not pleasing an insanely small minority.
The thing is, they had BFA and SL to get it right. No classes were introduced in either.
Give us Tinkers, and we’ll all shut up lol
Seriously though, it borders on tragedy that a game loaded with steampunk and sci fi elements doesn’t have a tech class. They’re long overdue.
Never said it was a fear. It’s something they actively do.
Bottom line, for me, tinker is boring and can be better covered under an expansion to the engineering profession. You can disagree. Just as I can disagree with your idea/opinion. It’s called discussion.
It’s what happened when both Monks and Demon Hunters were added - existing specs paid the price.
But Tinkers are a tech class with no magic. There’s nothing to steal.
Happened again when Evoker was added. Rescue me is just a tweaked leap of faith. Verdant embrace used to be a monk ability. Not to mention monk was built up to be a highly mobile class and now DH and Evoker outshine them there too.
It’s not necessarily a question of “ability X was moved from Class A to Class B”, although that’s certainly what happened with Warlocks & Demon Hunters.
It can also be simple neglect, or a class just going unfinished. The reason that bear tanks are in such a pathetic state, to this day, is because Blizzard stopped working on the spec before it was ever finished, and made Brewmasters instead.
That’s overlap, not stealing. Lots of classes have Lust/Hero now too. That ship sailed in Cata lol
That’s not the reason bear tanks are in a bad state. That’s complete conjecture, something you just made up. Bear issues started when they turned Feral into two separate specs.
And you all have this pipe dream about Bizzard balancing classes. They had two expansions without new classes.
This is all hilarious, coming from two monks…
Let’s also not forget that they copied monks most iconic mechanic in Stagger and also gave that to Evokers.
The point is, they copy/borrow/“overlap” abilities from other classes, diminishing what made them even slightly unique everytime they add a new class. They lack the creativity to come up with anything original.
All I see is: it’s okay that they gave me a monk with copy/borrow/overlap abilities and all classes that exist already have the same going on, but if it happens with Tinkers that’s too much because I don’t personally want them.
Ability ‘stealing’ is a matter of perception, all casters cast… it’s the whole package that makes each stand out from the rest.
Instead of being distraught that Evokers have ‘copied’ monks stagger (in one talent/spell, in one spec), try rejoicing/embracing that such a unique mechanic can now be experienced more often, by more players.
MANY games these days have vast and complex character/class/hero rosters, it’s not outrageous that WoW could do likewise. I’m not advocating for a 100 class roster or anything like that, but surely there’s room for more.
I was thinking ‘Tinkerbell’ and thought this was going to be a completely different thread…
Whew!
Oh, there are all sorts of reasons why bear tanks are in a bad state. But a lot of it falls back to when Blizzard tried to make bears a “dodge tank” and did it poorly. Then they gave up and made Brewmasters a dodge tank - and nailed it.
What’s the point of bears, ever since? Hasn’t been one, really.
Did you miss the part where I said they should have stopped at DK’s? Only reason I (and many other ex-bear-tanks) am playing a Monk at all is because Monk tanks got the dev attention that bears didn’t (because of Monks).
Bears are sponge tanks, have high HP, bulk up armor, stack/rotate flat DR, heal pretty darn well. Have you even played a bear recently? Bear tanks are generalists and full of utility.
I believe in Blizzard, I think DF has shown that they’re interested in trying new things, new ways of expressing class identity, development and deployment.
It’s a bit funny how dedicated a group of people there are to incessantly rise up and smack down every suggestion that isn’t a new raid tier.
I remember how vicious they were against the WoW classic threads… but that still became a thing so don’t worry about them.
Tinkers, dark rangers, player housing, guild housing, skinny Kul’Tirans, playable ogres, high elves, tatoos, more mage tower, a new lore character voiced by Morgan Freeman, flying unicorn mounts that fart raimbows… keep asking cause you never know!
I guess that’s part of the point, trying to understand and assuage peoples concerns/bad vibes where possible. Have a conversation rather than flat, ‘Nope, Stupid, Never Happen’ kind of remarks. As a community we should be excited for WoW to grow and expand its various narratives.
They don’t think
Sounds pretty stupid to me. The Engineering profession is already in game.
