That is made blindingly clear when those who play 40 hours a week have a terrible advantage over the father/husband who can only play for 3 hours on saturday evening (someone I know).
But thats how it is going to go. Put in the time and you get more from it.
Pay for multiple accounts, you get more mats when you farm.
Buy a token, you have more in game gold to spend.
Pretty simple math here.
