To kill or not to kill

So I’ve got a bit of a dilemma that I’m hoping the community here can help me settle but before I get into it, let me preface with the following: I’m a big carebear. As such, I’ve always played on PvE servers. This time around, I’ve decided to shake things up a bit and roll into a PvP server, something that’s completely foreign to me. I’ve been playing the Classic Beta on the PvP server and I’ve no idea how to translate my carebear-itude into proper PvP behavior.

The initial plan was to avoid conflict unless a fellow Hordie is being attacked or I was jumped by someone, in which case I’ll fight back. This worked well at first but today, I bumped into a hunter while questing. They were at half health and a few levels below my own. I could have easily ganked them but I ain’t about that life, so I just passed by and healed a nearby troll mage so that they don’t get ganked by the hunter. Mage thanks me, I keep going and they instantly get ganked by the hunter who now had time to recover. In being passive, I let someone die.

Should I have killed that hunter? Should I poke any alliance within my level range I see with sharp things? I don’t want to be an antagonist, but then what if the little ally I spared goes on to murder people?

How do I Carebear on PvP servers? o.x

Yes. Yes indeed.

We all learned the hard way, if it’s red it’s dead.

Kill everyone you see. If they didn’t want to risk getting killed they wouldn’t have picked a PvP server.

I don’t attack players at low health or already fighting mobs. That is as far as my “carebear” rules go.

Red is dead is a practical and fun strategy to playing on PVP servers. Clearing a questing area of enemy players is a reasonable strategy. The world itself is a resource, there is nothing wrong or mean about playing the game that way.

This pretty much. Only thing I add is I don’t normally run over and start helping someone or a group already killing the opposing faction. Always felt like a waste of time even if it gave me an HK at times. I’d help other Alliance that were in trouble, but I kept to myself. And if I’m farming ore/herbs I’ll definitely kill someone near by. More so than if I’m just questing and looking to level.

I kill everyone once usually.

I dont camp as i see it as a waste of time unless that player really made me mad.

I will slay them all.

You don’t.

I’m not a hostile person, really, but I am a blunt one, so: You used three paragraphs to say “For no reason, I’m playing on a server designed for people who want an entirely different playing experience than me.”

Restart on a PvE server. PvP servers are for people who want to PvP. It’s in the name.

Thats a lot of it too.

I like that feeling of anything can happen. Thats why pvp is so much better, i cant even imagine playing ona pve server as i never have.

This is an open world with factions, pvp is part of it.

In order to get better at pvp you have to just attack everyone close to your level. I say just play the game with the intent of always attacking and expect to kill a lot and die a lot. Don’t grief anyone, just kill them and move on.

The only plus to pve is if you’re a raider it’s a lot less of a hassle on raid nights or for farming for consumables. Past that it’s basically the same.

Do whatever you want, that’s the beauty of a PvP server. I roll on past plenty of toons on the opposing faction as we both quest in the same area. But if they so much as look at someone on my faction for too long I will crush with no mercy.

Sometimes, not often, but sometimes I just kill them on sight for breathing my air.

Rogues I attack immediately on principle, they are cowards and I’ve been ganked by too many of them.

Paladins I will kill if I have a chance, they suck to 1v1 on a lot of classes but if I can swing an advantage I will tear their guts out through their mouths and dance on their corpse.

I just love the excitement of a PvP server.

The chaos and the stuff that’s unexpected.

Do what you think is right for you. Not everybody plays “red is dead”, even on PvP servers. In fact most people don’t; when people say “red is dead”, what they really mean is “red is dead if it’s a fight I can’t realistically lose”.

Anyway. If you don’t feel right attacking somebody at half health, or who is already fighting something else, then don’t do it.

Except for rogues. If you see an opposite faction rogue out of stealth, you’re giving up too much of an advantage if you let them get back into stealth, and they probably will attack you, because that’s what rogues do.

You don’t. Rest assured if i see you, you will die even if i have to call in reinforcements to make it happen.

Why feel bad about the troll dying? He knew what he was getting into rolling on the pvp server.

Personally I play defensively and only really fight back when attacked or to even the odds if someone is being 2v1ed. I actually dont care much about factions or faction pride. That type of stuff is mindless.

I’m rolling a rogue and I’m making Angwe proud.

Easy…

Don’t initiate an attack, but if some one provokes you then you will END THEM, and their friends, and their friends, friends too.

Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.”

I usually never go out of my way to gank people but when I let someone live and they gank me I go 10000% revenge mode. I will follow them from zone to zone to zone.

The approach I’m going with in classic is if you give me honor you are RIP. Anyone who doesn’t give honor is safe unless I see them trying to gank someone.
