To all male players, what is your reason to pick a female character?

Why do you feel like you need to validate your reasons for playing a female character in a fictional role playing game? I have played male characters ( wow male models and animations are kinda bad though) and have NEVER been asked by other women why i’m playing a male character.

I come from D&D and don’t make unhealthy associations with my characters, i.e., my character is not me and doesn’t represent anything about me at all. It is a role I play. I make some characters male and some female, it just depends on whatever pops into my head, and / or what looks good.

Through my time in WoW my choice to use female character was solely based that they looked better. I did not like the normal look of super buff shoving Steroids into my blood every chance that I can look for every male. If I do pick a male it would be either a Gnome or Goblin. Everything else seems wrong or way over done.

That is how allot of guys think.

A) Because I enjoy the aesthetics of the Female characters far more than the idiotically bulky males and B) to annoy morons who care which gender the character you are playing as is.

I develop a story for each character. Some male, some female.

i rarely make females characters, but once in a great while i do for no real reason other than being different than the others

thats all there is to it

I just look and say that one is a hunter look. Then work on the back ground, personality and other things to bring to life. Male or female choice is so arbitrary for me. It more about how they fit into the game. Like her. She into Gothic stuff, loves to search old ruins for more power and respect people who take power.

Its a rpg game, I just pick whatever gender I think fits aesthetically.

This thread is old so maybe it’s in here somewhere already, not sure. But here goes:

When I was ~10 years old, I played Runescape, right? That was my main game. At some point, I got scammed for my password and lost the account. I didn’t have any experience with scammers so I didn’t suspect anything, and back then I didn’t know to contact support (not that Jagex has worthwhile support).

So, at some point also around this time, a friend told me that people just give free stuff to female characters. So when I rerolled to start playing again, I made a female character. The idea was -immediately- reinforced, because someone traded me a Rune Longsword within 10 seconds of me loading into Lumbridge.

Since then it’s just been habit.

Obviously that’s a really scummy reason, but remember that I was 10. It’s no longer the reason, and hasn’t been the reason basically any time after Runescape (which only really lasted until I was 11).

But I’ve just kept making female characters since then.

Maybe part of it is just that I don’t find the typical “cool, musclebound, badass, sometimes edgy” style a lot of games go for with male designs and armor appealing. WoW is one of them. I don’t want to play a hairless ape-looking roid raging Human. They do a much better job of making female characters look “reasonable”, even if it’s still an idealized image.

I don’t role play and my character isn’t a person. At best its a virtual murder hobo. And if I’m going to watch it dance around on screen murdering things, might as well make it easy on the eyes.

I go of what toons name is, makes no sense to have a male pallymcbeal…

I used to always pick male toons. I was young I wanted to pretend i was the character and “look cool”. nowadays im 27, i like women, and that whole wanting to “look cool” thing is kinda cringe to me now. Garrosh style orcs are an exception ill admit, but for the most part in a lot of games i just choose to avoid the risk of absolutely hating certain armor on my male character. im indifferent to most armor on female skeletons and its alot easier to look at a set on a female toon and say “yea that looks good” then it is on a male toon.

I have made a few female characters just for the heck of it. I can’t stand to play any female melee spec though because they just make way to much noise.

I play female blood elf’s and humans but male kul tiran humans.

If you are staring at your characters behind, then you are playing the game incorrectly.

And, yes, I do get to decide what is the correct way to play the game. So, stop it and play right!

I am a female with some male characters, Mostly just because I like a particular model, or how one gender looks in the transmog vs another. That sort of thing.

TBH I have a handful of female toons just because I somehow felt like I was being unfair having a stable full of male-only toons. In fact the next toon I am going to level is a female rogue, my first rogue toon.

Varies.

Sometimes I don’t like the look of the males. Other times I think a female character would go well with the class or even the background story I have in my head for said class.

IRL, both males and females envy the power of the other (consciously or not). Females envy the physical prowess of the male; males envy the sexual prowess of the female. Switching genders in-game is a harmless, playful way of temporarily identifying with the other’s power.

It’s always about power.
