Yep, it’s something I mentioned earlier, more so in a different thread (I believe the one where one of the blue’s was asking opinions on upgrades)
It’s one of those points that definitely relates to WF/TF even though it isn’t “technically” part of that system so I’m not sure how others will feel about it in the thread.
One of the big things with gems is their scaling and also the transparency of their power. Someone with high base and secondaries from having higher ilvl gear in general will receive a lot more benefit than someone the same class and spec with significantly lower base and secondary stats.
Without simming a lot of people don’t inherently know that a socket is worth so much so they will either not bother socketing or they could potentially “upgrade” the item after receiving an item or warforge that is 5-10 ilvls higher. I honestly don’t think that obscurity should be available as a random upgrade.
I would prefer to see gems being set on specific item pieces like rings for example so that people can have a base understanding of the strength of an item without either above average knowledge of the game or simming.
