Tips for M20s?

Hey, I’m looking to finally push in to M20s and was hoping for some tips on pulls to make thing smoother.

What do you guys do differently from the normal pulls if anything?
I know these could be long answers and I appreciate any help. Even if it’s just “pull X and Y together instead of separately”

Use line of sight more to help your dps with unavoidable damage. So like, Halkias shard thrash, mechagon drills, etc

Theres a lot to be said here but mostly if you’re pugging I would recommend making sure you can live whatever you’re pulling. Tracking your parties CDs to see if they have damage up or if you’re healer has a cd for you and think about your team comp before key starts

Any particular addon or aura you recommend for this?

For tank, speed and efficiency. Track cds and pull bug during theirs and yours. When I dps anything lower than 20 and we get tight on time 9 times out of 10 is because tank is going to slow.

Doesn’t mean do crazy pulls just means you know the route so be quick pull to pull. Cut the down time. Biggest rule I always go by. It’s only risky if no one has cool downs.

For dps players, practice your God dam rotation more for aoe and st. Nothing worse than seeing a tank beat a dps in a 20. ( Yes it happens).

The best tip is just play well. We’re at the point of the patch where we’re pretty much max geared and dungeons have been nerfed one way or another. To time 20s you don’t have to do crazy pulls. In fact, trying to do crazy pulls is what kills keys most of the time

Something that’s important, but underrated… If you can be on comms, it really helps.
Also team comps matter more. AOE heavy on fort weeks and ST heavy on Tyr weeks. It’s not do or die situation, but definitely starts to matter once you get close to or in the 20s.

The major sticking point for 20s is DPS, so make sure as a tank you’re doing as much as you can to help your DPS out (keeping things in Blizzard etc).

One thing to note about +20 and higher keys is the optimal pull strats tend to be much more aggressive so it’s more risk-reward. +20 keys aren’t that much harder than +18/19 keys… it’s when you start getting into +22s and higher that they become really challenging. There’s a “pug wall” for all keys where simply picking randoms isn’t going to guarantee success anymore.

Just have realistic goals on what you want to achieve.

Like by being a prot pally and doing a billion DPS? >.<

(Just a Guardian tank being jelly over here :P)

  • As a tank one the biggest things is knowing how much you can handle. If you’re pugging 20s, expect DPS to miss or overlap kicks and/or other CC. I’ve seen tanks do absolutely outrageous things and then get upset when DPS didn’t bail them out.

  • Don’t expect the other members of your party to read your mind or know how you want to handle every pull in a dungeon. If you want a specific mob CC’ed (say 2nd boss Plaguefall, Inspiring weeks, or those really nasty pulls in Spires), type that in party chat and make sure it’s acknowledged before proceeding. The timers in 20s are very lenient and you will waste more time with a failed pull than you will by making sure everyone knows what’s going on.

  • Have MDT routes. Not everyone cares about them (esp DPS), but it does help your healer to understand where you’ll need the most attention.

  • If you’re going to deploy dungeon specific tech (skips, snapping, etc.) make sure you discuss it before the dungeon starts and don’t just randomly do it on a pull.

Those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

yeah, and stick with it if you call it. i had one run where somebody specifically asked if we were doing any invis skips. tank said no so a dps potted on a pull. two minutes later tank says “invis here” lol

fortunately the rest of us hadn’t potted so we just rezzed him after we got through, but still…

Communication. Healer having mana. People having cooldowns (whether it’s you, the DPS, or the healer).

In 20+ keys, you’ll need to do dangerous, large pulls with cooldowns, or/and you need to chain pull as often as you can. The goal is to optimize your AoE damage output by always trying to pull to your target caps for maximum kill efficiency. However, you also need to know your limits while doing this. I cleared all of my +20s as a Venthyr Fury warrior, so I had a 5-target cap, and we were rotating DPS cooldowns on packs, as well as constantly coordinating healer mana and cooldowns with tank cooldowns while pushing on.

In lower keys, everything dies so fast that you have plenty of time, but in 20s it will be taking longer. You’ll also need to plan your routes around invisibility skips and associated risks. My group always had a pet class for getting the 3 Tormentors early in Mists, but the only dungeon we ever did an invis skip in was Spires of Ascension.

Did this guy literally just give you day 1 basics on how to tank 20s? what kind of clown thinks this information is even worthy of normal dungeon leveling ish

How tf u plan to push into 20s when u barely times things on 16

If you’re talking about me barely timing things on 16, it’s because the last few weeks I’ve only been doing 10 keys of mists/DoS for quick runs and the scale trinket. Or pushing my key to get an 18.
I’m sure if I branched out and did more than 3 different dungeons they would all be done on 18+

I really don’t think this is true, you can time every 20 just using dratnos no skip routes, assuming your DPS is on point.

I appreciate all the help, guys! I look forward to pushing in to 20s. Unfortunately I do have to pug them because of work schedule but it should be pretty fun!

The only way I found to get into 20 in PUGs is to make sure you have most/all dungeons timed on 19s. If people see a bunch of 18s and 17s on your toon, there’s very little chance you’ll get accepted to a 20.

Edit: I pug’d all of my current dungeons, so I went through the struggle as well.
